Rallying needs to trigger useful actions, and here's mine.
I was out walking this morning, wanting to get it done before the online rally, despite the return of winter
This with a 15mph wind, which doesn't sound like much unless you're out in it, and which got me tired a bit sooner than planned, so I shortened my walk and came back through the streets.
And here's what I found
I checked out the society named on the sign, and decided a small monthly donation starting immediately, was a great way to defend the earth.
I figured if we don't attend to our pollinators, what are we rallying for anyway?
Happy day everyone, I hope you took part in some way and came up with a follow-up action of your own.
Sez Ted and Big Ursy and Pony and Ursula

Looking into the American Aquarium from England it was so good to see how many ordinary American citizens came out today to register their displeasure with the fascist regime that now leads your once great country. As a protest singer of the past once sang, "We shall overcome some day!". And it's true. If he doesn't die of ailments first, #47 will be consigned to the effluent pit of history very soon.
ReplyDeleteWe have his whole gov in our sights! Thanks for the good words.
DeleteYou show caring in more than one way.
ReplyDeleteYes, you get it. Thanks!
DeleteWhat a great idea. And yes. If we don’t have pollinators we really don’t need to worry about dictators. Well all go to hell in a hand basket anyway
ReplyDeleteI love how even if your unable to attend the rallies you were still there.
That’s real community.
Exactly, Angela, if we don't attend to the basics there won't be anything to care about anyway.
DeleteI didn't know there was an online rally. Was it just in your state? I got out to ours for a bit.
ReplyDeleteThe online rally was from the flagship center, Minneapolis, and was worldwide. There was one last time too. It was a great group.
DeleteI didn't know there was an online rally, too! That is fabulous!!
ReplyDeleteIt's the second I've attended, and particularly welcome yesterday -- see the temp!
DeleteI am glad so many turned out to rally in real life and virtually. Supporting bees is always a great idea.
ReplyDeleteIt was a great day, and serendipitous that I found out about Xerces just then.
DeleteHow wonderful that there's an online protest for everyone who can't make it to a live rally. 8,000 of you - wow!!!
ReplyDeleteAlso impressed that you got out for a chilly walk, and Xerces is a terrific organization.
Chris from Boise
PS I estimate several thousand at Boise's rally today (including us), and my Vermont and Colorado brothers report great turnouts too.
I saw a picture of the Boise rally and thought I bet C and M are in that picture! Online is a great next best for a lot of people.
DeleteThe governments (mentioning no names) of many countries would rather have bombs and missiles to chuck about and make the money than pay attention to such small but vital cogs in the machines as pollinators any day. It's up to us to band together and take care of the Really Important Things.
ReplyDeleteI agree, that participants such as pollinators are more vital than ever. Go us!
DeleteIt was reported here that there were large turnouts for No Kings Day in very red states.
ReplyDeleteYes, there's plenty of disillusion in red states. Dems have won every single special election, state and fed, this year including formerly heavily gop seats.
DeleteI love Big Ursy's and Ursula's pink pussy hats!
ReplyDeleteThey're in demo mode! I saw a few resistance hats in yesterday's crowd pictures, too.
DeleteGreat to hear of your support of the pollinators! As well as the rallies!
ReplyDeleteIt's heartening to see how our blogistas immediately got the importance of pollinators now particularly.
DeleteWe need to support all our pollinators. The alternative is too awful to contemplate.
ReplyDeleteYes, no matter where we live we can do something to help, even if it's only discontinuing sprays that are deadly to them.
DeleteI am planting things I know the pollinators love as fast as I can. More every year. Good for you for attending the virtual event.
ReplyDeleteGood planting! I know you practice clean gardening.
DeleteSo glad you could participate online! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteIt was great, very well run.
DeleteWait, where did Ursula come from?! Somehow I missed her appearance on the scene!
ReplyDeleteI am all for pollinators and invertebrates. I hope we do a lot for them here in our garden -- we certainly try.
Ursula has been around years, but she's an upstairs bear and didn't make it downstairs till Pony arrived. Then nothing satisfied her until she learned to ride. Upstairs Big Bear and Pink Rabbit said kids these days.
DeleteI'm surprised at the sheer lack of coverage on the news here about the rallies. Last time there were several 'bits' about it and lots of pictures of the crowds. I do hope it doesn't mean the news services here are becoming complacent....or worse, being muzzled.
ReplyDeleteMuzzled would be my guess. Even the nyt has an above the fold article.
DeleteI am so very encouraged right now. So many people, everyone getting more and more vocal. I read that 36 Republican legislators have decided to simply not seek reelection. That is encouraging too.
ReplyDeleteThat's our next task, retake the House and senate.
DeleteI wish that i had known about the online rally. Never occurred to me. But so many people participated. That is encouraging. 36 Republican legislators have decided not to seek reelection. That is encouraging too. These rallies are so good for the soul, truly.
ReplyDeleteYou must have missed the post where I gave the link to sign up ahead. It was a great online event. It's all good for our spirits.
