Sad news and other less important things

Last night Catalyst, our blogging friend who right up to a couple of weeks ago, posted all kinds of material, including his weekly Friday funnies, died peacefully, family around.  I'll just excerpt the post his family wrote

He read and commented with great good humor in this blog, nice guy. And as a tribute, here's a sample of the Friday Funnies he posted on the 13th, his last.

I'll miss him. He brightened a lot of Fridays with corny humor. His wife Judy died recently, very suddenly, and I wondered if he would be long after her.  If you want to check into his blog, the family is inviting photographs, and I left a message.

Handsome Son showed up promptly early this morning, and we arrived at the medical arts building in good time. In, saw doctor who assured me I was well enough for the bone density injection, which happened quickly, and we were out by 9:30.

Too soon for the post office, so we came home for cake and tea, and for Handsome Son to unload a bunch of freecycling I'd promised to do for him.

He took the parcel of knitting with him to mail when he left.

Then lunch, and I was wiped out, sleeping soundly, to be woken up by Gary knocking on the window, wanting help with pruning.

I'm a scorched earth pruner but he's more cautious. Anyway we managed to separate out the entwined branches of a rose and a butterfly bush which had planted itself.

He's willing to cut out tiny little twigs near the ground!  Then he wondered if I wanted to prune the sage in my deck. I declined, usually just give a lot of it away in summer and that keeps it in shape.

So today is another day when rest is elusive..

Evening online with friends.

Meanwhile, in resistance, I've messaged all my MOCs to stay firm against pressure to reopen the government without the ICE and Border patrol restrictions.

Now that chaos is unfolding at airports, it's the chance to let the gop be blamed and pick up the pieces.  And it's up to them to navigate and manage T***p's obstruction.

On happier fronts, I've been checking on those UFOs I receive. The cowl was a finish and that's gone to the Sock 'n glove 'n whistle Ministry now.

Here's what I think I'll do next, finish this sock and hope I have enough yarn to continue with the second sock.

Happy day everyone, try to rest. Or prune, if that's what comes of it.

  1. How good of Weaver’s grands to respect his wishes, to take the time to share with everyone, and to ask for photos to celebrate and remember him.

My mother made my father those identical socks in 1949. I wish I had a photo of them. She gave them to me in 1969, but I didn’t keep them long.

    1. I think his family is nice, all good people.
Funny that I'm knitting a sock you recognize. I think it's a classic. This pattern was published in 1997. Whether I follow it is TBD.

  2. It's sad to lose a blogger but it's wonderful that his family shared the news and didn't leave his readers wondering what happened. I would hope, if anything happened to me, that our #2 son would notify everyone (I think he would).
Chaos at airports is going to be an ongoing thing and now made worse by the influx of ice doing their nasty deeds.

    1. Handsome son has access to all my online places, and he's undertaken to let people know, also to do an online event where readers can makes comments.
Flying is as hazardous on the ground as in the air now. I don't think I'd do it.

  3. Bruce will be missed.

You always have multiple projects ready to go. Admiring applause.

    1. People tend to present me with projects to do. So where I can, I do.

  4. It's so sad. His wife only died on Jan. 4th I think and now he's gone too. That must be hard on his daughter and granddaughters, but I'm glad he's with his wife again. I shall miss his Friday funnies.

    1. She was his stepdaughter, Judy's daughter. I'll miss that corny end to the week.

  5. I'm so sorry to here about the passing of Bruce. Resisting is a must any way one can. I saw several videos of ICE in airports. It's a mess.

    1. He was trying bravely after Judy died, but that stroke a couple of weeks ago really affected him. He said typing became difficult, and I suspect his energy was hit, too.

  6. Yes, what a shock to see that post today announcing Bruce (Catalyst)'s death. But he did have that heart condition and in fact was just recently joking about not living long enough to reach a far-off scheduled appointment. He had an outstanding sense of humour and will be greatly missed in the blogosphere.

    1. Yes, he hadn't been well, and that recent stroke affected his movement. Such a nice guy, I'll miss him.

  7. Farewell to your internet friend Bruce. I do like the Pilot Lounge meme.

  9. It funny how that happens. I go for weeks without seeing anyone. But the day I fall asleep will be the day the phone rings five times and at least one person pops in to visit me.
    Seriously. What’s with that.
I hope you got a better sleep that night

    1. I usually sleep well, so this is good. You don't seem to count resident husband and frequently visiting grandchildren as anyone! I'm a bit puzzled about that.

  10. You've been busy as usual. I'm more like Gary in the pruning, a bit scared to be too ruthless.

  11. I was so sad to read about Bruce but I knew it was difficult for him after the death of Judy and after his stroke. He sure lived a full and exciting life and his blog had so many terrific stories and always got me chuckling with his Friday Funnies. I'll miss that. Glad your doctor said you are doing well and your Handsome Son takes such good care of you. I have a Handsome Son who lives with me and helps me out a lot too!

    1. Bruce leaves good memories, and I hope his family leaves his blog open for a while. I seem to be doing okay, and she said the hip area is probably lower back needing pt. When I see the hip surgeon in April she suggests getting a script if it's still an issue.

  12. I simply hate it when a beloved member of our community simply disappears. I still think of several bloggers I followed who were just suddenly not there. When my friend Kathleen knew that her time was coming, she gave me access to her computer and I wrote her last post. I just checked and her blog is still up. "Sittin On A Porch."
My kids will finish Bless Our Hearts off, I'm sure.
I did not follow Catalyst but recognized him as part of our community here and was sorry to hear of his wife's death. I am glad he could go peacefully.
Now. If Gary would just let you REST peacefully in the here and now...
Boy, do I need to do some yard work today. Wish you could come help me!

    1. It's nice when there's a conclusion to a blog. This one was particularly graceful. Any time you need a hand, drop in. Everyone else does!

  13. That sock pattern was where my sock knitting journey began, years ago. Brings a smile. And that point in "is there enough yarn" is where I learned to weigh the sock and then weigh the remaining yarn plus needles. Saved a lot of fretting. I like knitting to be relaxing :)

    1. Weighing would be a great idea if I had the means to do it. For this one, yarn chicken!

  16. I will miss Bruce's Friday Funnies. My genius daughter "no-one" has instructions to leave a goodbye post if I kick the bucket suddenly. I will do it myself if the day comes when I feel I must close the blog.
