Quiet Saturday, more or less

Aside from an unexpected lovely visit from Gary and friend, who might be donating puzzles to the library now that she knows they lend them, Saturday has been quiet. I was up before dawn, and knitting the second sock

And I got the hang of the lucet

It's meditative and I only stopped when ny hands got tired. It's a lovely tool to handle.

And these items have been claimed on Freecycle

I walked early, and it was an April day -- warm sun, cold wind. I was glad of my warm jacket though it looked so springlike from indoors.

As a result of this early morning activity, there was some sleeping after lunch. I woke up wondering what day it was, so I guess I was definitely sleeping when I thought I was resting my eyes. My plans to do some filling of pots with soil ready for planting went nowhere.

I'm continuing reading the old age book, Elderhood, which continues to make a lot of sense. I have one small objection, that she tends to make her points repeatedly. I get it, I got it the last eight times, too. But it's still a good point. No, no, don't run it by me again.

I often have this objection to nonfiction books, that they're determined to be book length, even if they'd be better as a good long article. But a book is better for sales, I suppose.

Happy day, everyone, a quiet day with not much happening at home is good, especially in contrast to what's in the news.

I did fire off requests to my senators, of various kinds, including pursuing Bondi's subpoena, refusing the outlandish budget ask, passing the Farmworkers Protection Bill, and continuing to push the War Powers Bill. After that they can take the rest of the day off.

Sad news and other less important things

Last night Catalyst, our blogging friend who right up to a couple of weeks ago, posted all kinds of material, including his weekly Friday funnies, died peacefully, family around.  I'll just excerpt the post his family wrote

He read and commented with great good humor in this blog, nice guy. And as a tribute, here's a sample of the Friday Funnies he posted on the 13th, his last.

I'll miss him. He brightened a lot of Fridays with corny humor. His wife Judy died recently, very suddenly, and I wondered if he would be long after her.  If you want to check into his blog, the family is inviting photographs, and I left a message.

Handsome Son showed up promptly early this morning, and we arrived at the medical arts building in good time. In, saw doctor who assured me I was well enough for the bone density injection, which happened quickly, and we were out by 9:30.

Too soon for the post office, so we came home for cake and tea, and for Handsome Son to unload a bunch of freecycling I'd promised to do for him.

He took the parcel of knitting with him to mail when he left.

Then lunch, and I was wiped out, sleeping soundly, to be woken up by Gary knocking on the window, wanting help with pruning.

I'm a scorched earth pruner but he's more cautious. Anyway we managed to separate out the entwined branches of a rose and a butterfly bush which had planted itself.

He's willing to cut out tiny little twigs near the ground!  Then he wondered if I wanted to prune the sage in my deck. I declined, usually just give a lot of it away in summer and that keeps it in shape.

So today is another day when rest is elusive..

Evening online with friends.

Meanwhile, in resistance, I've messaged all my MOCs to stay firm against pressure to reopen the government without the ICE and Border patrol restrictions.

Now that chaos is unfolding at airports, it's the chance to let the gop be blamed and pick up the pieces.  And it's up to them to navigate and manage T***p's obstruction.

On happier fronts, I've been checking on those UFOs I receive. The cowl was a finish and that's gone to the Sock 'n glove 'n whistle Ministry now.

Here's what I think I'll do next, finish this sock and hope I have enough yarn to continue with the second sock.

Happy day everyone, try to rest. Or prune, if that's what comes of it.
