The pond was crowded, but I only saw a couple of turtles today.

Home again, and I got going on the latest band 

It's moving quickly and I'm developing some skills at maintaining an even width. I'm liking this, and I'm also liking being at the narrowband loom again.

We recently had a discussion about the saying that if a thing's worth doing, it's worth doing badly. 

My bandweaving is a case in point. I'm not yet very good at it, but it's worth doing. The notion that a thing's only worth doing if you can do it well is a false position. Even if your best isn't yet very good, it's still worth doing.

Clasped weft, and taking it to the post office

Yesterday I was feeling up to weaving, and here's a sequence showing you what this clasped weft idea means. 

I decided to use the frame loom I repaired and it's working just fine, particularly the heddle bar.  I used three colors for the warp, the tan one being some yarn I spun

This is how clasped weft works. Two weft threads instead of one, one looped over the other

Then you draw the thread across and it pulls the other color along, to where you decide to stop

You can make all kinds of interesting shapes by simply pulling the second, clasped,  thread over. I made it more complex by using three colors so quite a few different effects happen in what's really a simple piece.

It's a lovely technique which I haven't done for a while. I may make a band using this approach, too.

I had an irruption by Gary last evening wanting me to identify a plant, was it poison ivy? We have a lot, reasonable precaution. We also have a lot of Virginia creeper which he gets confused with it. 

I came out to look, because I'd removed a couple of poison ivy runners from my yard. But his plant, also one he'd seen at a neighbor's house, were something else. 

He's definitely planning on paving me a patio out front in the summer. I think he'll be around here quite a bit.  Meanwhile he gave me his relative/tenant's cell number, and his daughter's.  I've known them both for years but never had their numbers. 

He's now ordering window treatments for s couple of dozen windows. The new house is large! I seized the opportunity to remind him to retrieve his plants when he's ready.

Happy day everyone, I think my four windows and a skylight are enough to handle right now.

Weaving thoughts, shadow art, too darned hot

Friends in the UK are feeling chilly. If anyone has nice medium weather please comment and cheer us all up.

I finally decided, in the third heatwave of the year, maybe I should retire the cosy blanket from the sofa and summerize it.

It's a large bedsheet in the inevitable sage green I seem to like. I think it's in my DNA, my Mom used to like green and cream combos in the house. No cream here, but pale yellow walls. 

While I was at it I swept the floor, high time. Next week another friend is coming over to pick a piece of art, so I just thought I would. I'd hate her to shudder and run at the sight of the crumbs everywhere. 

And there was shadow art this morning from the split leaf philodendron. Isn't that a great design idea?

This plant is a house guest, living here temporarily to shelter from the turmoil of furniture moving next door, and due to move to her new home soon. 

She's doing okay with minimal care. I don't do a lot with houseplants, and they seem to manage. I'm wondering if Gary will also collect other plants he stuck in my house when he ran out of room in his own. 

I will be fine if he does, since I'm in labor saving mode these days. He likes big dramatic plants which I find a bit too much of a good thing.  I really prefer starting from cuttings and seed, rather than let the plant nursery have all the fun.

I'm thinking what to weave, which loom to weave it on, what yarn to use. I need contrasts because clasped weft likes contrast. And I need to review how to do cw first. I always forget the path the weft has to take. 

My vaxxed arm is almost back in action and I'm getting back up to speed. Pretty much as planned, in fact.  So all's well.
