Misfits, pumpkins and George

Yesterday's Misfits was a small batch, partly because I think they're struggling with supplies, and some regular items are either not available or sell out fast. I doubt if I'll starve, but I have to regroup a bit.

The pumpkin is my annual Fall extravaganza, a sugar pumpkin which will come in, to be cooked, after a few days. Or less, if the squirrels start on it first.

Or unless George has ideas

I'm cautiously returning to eating raw apples, but I think the blueberries will become jam. I may also have to bake, since, shock, Misfits have none of my bread. I have embarked on the sourdough with no ill effects, though.

And three bean salad is on the menu, the beans steamed and chopped. I think I'll add olives this time. Maybe dried cranberries, too. And a dash of that garlic ginger soy sauce I made. I've got dried kidney beans soaking.

No yogurt, a bit of a blow, but I'll figure out a workaround. I forgot to reserve some as a starter.

The potatoes are parboiled for great roasting with the rest of last week's carrots. And you'll notice no cans for the food pantry, since they got modern and I'm donating $$ online.

Another touch of fall is the change to a small chrysanthemum bouquet with coleus. That lovely bitter scent.

They're the kind with multiple blossoms on a stem, so this is just three stems, and arranges itself.

My knitting yarn is being repurposed

The embroidery is coming along. I realized that variegated 2ply yarn would give me variegated flower petals much more simply than working with several colors of floss. I like the results. And I'm finding that stitching wool on twill denim is easier than I'd expected.

I'm also liking the simplified blog approach, less work, lazy me. The feed appears to be working and I can pick up again with the blogs I still have on my list. I'm starting now, not going back to catch up. Often the moment has passed, so I'll just get on the bus now.

The weather is still warm and the spiders of Fall are working with roses and morning glories

And the heavy rains are exposing interesting river rocks on my walks, to add to my little rockery

It's a kind of quest, on days when I don't feel much like walking. I originally started the collection when I was walking KC the Dalmatian. Bringing home a nice rock was a kind of reward for being out in all weathers.

Happy day everyone! Spare a good thought for my friend in London who's having a difficult recovery from a hip replacement.

She was sent home, alone, straight after surgeries, no rehab, no instructions, no help,  and is predictably back in the hospital with complications. I hope it goes better now.
