Plans and what happens

Saturday's plan was mainly to rest and listen to Tudor history, aside from vital cooking, and it went a little awry.

Gary came dashing over, wondering if I had any ice blocks for him. I've been sending them back to Misfits since they started recycling, but I used to pass them on to him.

I did, in the bottom of the freezer, so after we'd conferred with another neighbor about his hurting knee, recommended my PT -- Gary is already setting up a series with him about his hurting back -- where was I oh yes, ice, we dug in the freezer.

This entailed emptying it to reach the blocks after which Gary offered to put everything back but I said it's okay it needs to be reorganized anyway.

So while lunch cooked -- roasted rainbow carrots, tuna cheese fritters -- I found myself hauling frozen stuff. Not sure if the organization is working, but I was surprised to find how much oatmeal I had. I definitely have to shop in the freezer for a while.

Then he asked neighbor and me to save boxes, he's packing. I pointed him to the recycle where I'd just a few minutes earlier put a couple of boxes, flattened and tied.

So eventually I got the house back to myself and I did the dishes, at which point I urgently needed to lie down, so I made a pot of tea. I also separated the milk into several smaller containers which I froze, not wanting it to go off before I got to it. Then I watered the downstairs plants. Finally I guess I got to rest. Or what passes for rest chez Boud.

Still coughing, throat's fine again, nose is calming down, I just need to regain energy. I may have to rethink my approach to resting.

Comic relief from the etiquette column today

So would I if my potluck offering were described as poisonous. Bad restaurant reviews are one thing but this is a bridge too far!

I found a new Atomic Shrimp video, Drink Can Tinwork, great fun, craft beers made into boxes and their labels into book covers. I suppose if you keep drinking to get the empty cans your results might show it.

Happy day everyone, what's your version of resting?

 Marigold and

Fluffina could give us handy tips.

Remembering and resting

Today for Veterans Day, we remember the troops lost in wars, in the hope of not repeating the tragedy.  I hope, but I doubt. Today though, my doubts are set aside in favor of honoring the dead, and hoping for a better future.

And I found this helpful reminder, to those who get today off work, that it's good to rest. We don't have to be "productive" every day.

Then I immediately pivot to this cool book I read yesterday, via
lovely library Libby, after seeing it referenced by Debra in She Who Seeks. No, I'm not on her payroll, despite the times I refer you to her blog. Now that I think of it, maybe I should just have a word..

It's funny, and packed with info about bees, in a tiny package, appropriately enough.  Just one of those occasional fun reads a person stumbles on. Bees don't rest. Except drones, who do damn all..

Meanwhile today, despite my big talk about resting, I'm on the cusp of finishing the gloves then I'll send the Glove 'n Sock package off tomorrow, when the PO opens after the holiday. It's getting cold now, so it's high time.

Finally after 41 dry days and wildfires, we got rain yesterday. I opened the window to listen.  And the flock of juncoes, winter visitors, are pecking madly in the grass this morning, no doubt finding great snacks after the rain has loosened the surface.

Wives and Daughters is a terrific production, peak Beeb, and I'm thinking about Cranford next. I appear to be on an endless quest of costume drama, despite some of the actors, names redacted to protect the guilty, being my least favorite.

All the honeynut cranberry bread is now distributed, so about eight people got a little something. And I got, bonus, bits of neighborhood news.  Not a bad ROI.

Happy day everyone, rest if possible, enjoy your day. Which also happens to be Martinmas, ancient end of Halloween, and beginning of winter and harvest festival all in one. St Martin is the patron saint of wine and wine growing, not a bad patronage to have.

Saturday, slow day

Saturday, I did very little, walked, made fishcakes, served with a green salad, chocolate pudding, and mostly listened to this wonderful mystery

I think I was reminded of him in a couple of other blogs, maybe something is streaming and causing it to crop up. Anyway I love Horowitz and his double narrative form, one story inside another, so this was great.

In the course of watching I got another batch of postcards addressed,  and  a pair of socks finished,

and did quite a bit of dozing.

Earlier I'd walked, and seen these swags of berries

Natural art.

Just one of the most restful days I've had in ages. Resting is not a thing I do very much, but today I did a good job of it.

We're at the equinox, so Gaia is showing us how to go on.

Happy day, everyone, hats off to people who know how to rest. Maybe I can read books about it, take a course in speed resting? 😉
