Yesterday's walk to the pond disturbed many big frogs, see the circles where they'd leaped when I got near, and I could see eyes above the surface checking for when I'd gone. The drake hurried away when he saw me.
And the linen tunic is done.
Now I need to get my pressing mojo going, and it will be ready for primetime.
Speaking of pressing, the last couple of days have acted on my life like a high wind clearing dead foliage from the trees. The bitter disappointment of the "debate", followed by the even more bitter ageism and misogynoir that followed, even from people I'd thought better of, served as a reset in my online life.
I take it personally when people, after a hugely successful presidency to date, saving our economy, putting us back on the world stage, are willing to throw it all away because of one fall at a fence. And then say a great president, five years younger than me, isn't up for it. When he's doing the whole job.
And then go on to say there's no backup. As if Harris weren't there, campaigning brilliantly, crisscrossing the country. The mainstream media aren't covering her, so sheltered people who believe the newspapers think she's not out there. She'd be a great president. We'd be in good hands.
I can't help thinking the people still crying after Biden himself got back up and gave a barn burner of a speech the next day, well, they'd never make it as immigrants!
The Philadelphia Inquirer, locally known as the Philly Inkwire, came out with a great editorial saying if anyone needs to step down, it's the convicted felon rapist T***p. Yay, signs of intelligent life. I hope they pick up the subscriptions the other newspaper is currently hemorrhaging.
So I've cleared away blogs and accounts which now seem to shed more heat than light. So that's me, today.
I don't mind disagreement. A difference between friends can teach both of them a little something, and I'm still learning. But I've definitely found out who my friends are. And I need to protect myself from ageism.
Happy day, everyone! Now I'm taking Sandy Boynton's advice here
Pride isn't just June. It's a lifetime. So the flag will continue after June's over.
I, too, am appalled by the comments being made by people I thought knew better. But I can’t accept that anyone is talking about anyone’s age when Biden is up against a lying, thieving, cheating, ignorant, felon.
ReplyDeleteThere you go!
DeleteAnd the linen tunic is beautiful! I’m glad you don’t mind ironing.
ReplyDeleteI'm not fond of ironing, but if you like linen it comes up.
DeleteI do like the tunic a lot.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm glad it's done.
DeleteI loved Biden's brilliant response to his critics -- "I don't speak as smoothly as I used to. I don't debate as well as I used to. But I know what I do know — I know how to tell the truth ... I know right from wrong." Those are the most important qualifications of all to be President and Trump has NEITHER of them.
ReplyDeleteYes to all that.
DeleteHear! Hear! You said it well. Biden has led the country well. Surely we know this because we have witnessed it. And Harris has had our backs. Four more years! Thank you, Mr. Biden for a job well done.
ReplyDeleteYes. Harris deserves a lot more credit and attention than she gets.
Deletegood for you. and I agree, disagreement is fine but not the venom and refusal to even look at the facts we are getting from some people and they need to be excised out. the NYT publisher has a personal vendetta against Biden because he refused to give an interview which the publisher thought he deserved. and in two months this so called 'debate' will be a distant memory. it's criminal what the media is doing. read one comment that those who yammer on about Biden's age and health, what they are really afraid of is a strong woman who identifies as black being the next in line.
ReplyDeleteThat is exactly right. The trouble with Biden is she's a black woman.
DeleteGood on ya- that's giving them the good ol' one two!
ReplyDeleteLOVE love the tunic, though in my mind TUNIC comes down to mid thigh...that is lovely fabric, looks like a summer day in the park, seated comfortably on a shaded bench , with a cheese and egg sandwich.
Pride, like earth day, and mother's day is everyday all of the time.
Too funny - I'm short torsoed, and the tunic does come mid thigh! That sounds like a good sandwich idea.
DeleteI am praying…can’t do much else from another country. The world is on edge in so many ways these days.
ReplyDeletePraying beats lobbing criticism across the border, thank you.
DeleteOne thing I'd say about Harris: I like her looks very much. I suppose she's good at her job, too.
ReplyDeleteShe's brilliant and well liked by everyone who has met her. She's made great international friends, too. Read her speeches, see where she goes. The black community totally has her back. And she has ours.
DeleteI will readily admit that the debate shook me badly. I was enraged at how Trump got to spew his lies and racism with impunity. I was shocked to see the change in Biden from the State of the Union speech to now. But after I got over that shock and thought about things for a day or two, I realized that this is not necessarily a sinking ship and that yes, Biden is running the country and he's doing a fine job of it. I've never had any doubt as to his true desire to help the American people in all the ways a government can. As to Harris- she has been in the background so much that I think none of us feels as if we know her or her abilities. I, too, was thrilled when she became Biden's VP choice and I am still thrilled over that. We need to let her have her day.
ReplyDeleteThe thing that makes me the most enraged is the fact that so many people are asking how in the world the Democratic party has allowed the situation to get to this point when the real question is how in the world the Republican party let things get to where they are with DT. If you want to talk about someone being unfit to take office...
And yet, here he is.
Let us now do our best and continue to live our lives, watching the ducks and the frogs, making the things we make, loving and caring for the people whom we adore, and VOTING!
Go you, Mary! You got back up again!
DeleteAgeism is a scourge as much as any other 'ism'. Today's octogenarians are yesterday's fifty-year-olds. Heaven preserve us all from another term from the orange one.
ReplyDeleteThe people whining about age are in fact terrified of a capable black woman getting the job. And some of them are old, vtoo.
DeleteI’m not quite an octogenarian but I will be in less than 2 years. Yes, I’ve slowed down and retired at 75 but I’m still smart and capable. Biden undoubtedly was rattled by his opponents behavior but still…. Barbara
ReplyDeleteYes. The people who don't get this are swallowing a mass media hit job.
DeleteThis world definitely isn’t built for people over a certain age. It glamourises young and beautiful. So I’m not totally shocked with what is happening.
ReplyDeleteThey don’t see the wisdom we have achieved through personal struggles. They don’t see that sometimes the old fashioned way is the better way.
They just see a dithering old man and we all have to hide away to wait quietly to die
Yes I totally get why this would make you angry. It makes me angry and afraid for our future
I'm angry that people I thought would know better are swallowing this stuff. It's a concerted mass media hit job, to return the regime that would benefit them. And people are distraught, because they believe it.
DeleteHear, hear!
ReplyDeleteYes, you get it.
DeleteI have read that if you just read the transcript of the debate you get a whole different perspective.
ReplyDeleteNail, head, bang.
DeleteComing from Canada, I expect we get a whole different perspective on the political goings on in the US (and the rest of the world) so it's difficult for me to make any sort of informed commentary. All I can say is that if the Donald wins and if the Conservatives get in here, I shudder to think what will happen to the world as we know it. The current conservative leader here is a mini-Donald and we're very much afraid of what will happen should he end up with power.
ReplyDeleteVery nice tunic that I'm sure will see a lot of wear.
Yes, people who think Canada would be a safe haven from the US don't know the situation in Canada. There are no safe havens.
