Cold, oh well, there's lentils

Up very early today, before dawn

The bedroom is the warmest room, nearest the furnace, so after breakfast I went back there to read, and fell asleep again.

Once it got up to "feels like 10°f"  I needed to get out of the house, so I did the recycling and garbage and collected the mail, most of which landed in the recycle, and picked my way home watching for ice.

Home again I made red lentil tofu, since the Misfits box I planned for today isn't here yet, weather moving my delivery to Friday.

I'll probably make crunchy cubes with a dipping sauce for dinner.

I did, seen here with dipping sauce and peppermint sprig.

Gary, looking much better, came dashing over to return containers from various baked goods I'd given him and a handy glass jar. I recycle a lot of things he presents me with, but the jar is a good size to make mayo.

Happy day everyone. I'm resting a bit today, to get less frazzled.  Then back to resisting tomorrow. Thanks for understanding my current state, which a lot of us are feeling just now.

    1. I did take time to rest and read and play a simple video game (like Tetris my son tells me). Anyway I can zone out for a few minutes with it. I claim it's good for mental health.

  2. 10F?? I wouldn't even get out of bed. Aussie daytime temps are never that low, even night time temps are never that low.

  3. We do get below zero f now and then. It's the wind that doesn't help. Today there was sunshine which gave an idea of warmth, sort of.

  4. I thought I'd rise at 7 this morning but was awakened at 7:30 by call from granddaughter. I overslept. She was ready to come over for a day of homeschooling while her mom went to work. It was a bit of a scramble at first but day turned out well.

  8. I hope your Misfits comes through on Friday, though with your freezer and pantry stocked you probably wouldn't starve. Glad you're catching your breath a little; one does need to regroup and self-care at times. And so glad that Gary is looking better! Speaking of looking, how does your yarn look now? Have you taken it out of its dye bath?

  9. Reduced bandwidth (yesterday's post) exactly describes how I'm feeling too... resting up seems to be a good choice.

  10. Brrr. Your dinner plate looks elegant and delicious. Double that amount for me. Taking action is much better than simply stewing, but it still takes it out of you. Take good care of your good self.

    1. At about half your size and twice your age, my appetite is small! comically so.

    2. Oh, dearheart. You may be half my size but you’re only old enough to be my big sister.

  11. Ice is such a threat these days. Be careful out there!

  12. I hope Misfits gets there today. It's funny how involved I feel with your weekly deliveries.
Did you see Don Lemon got taken into custody? This frightens me and enrages me so much.

    1. Yes, people do like to know about my misfits, it's funny. That's why I thought I'd better explain about the delay. Not a chance of having any judge or gj allow charges.

  13. You watch it out there! And that's good about Gary.

  14. I understand. I'm there myself. I hope your delivery comes today.

  15. Your dinner looks fancy but tiny. I would need more "sides" and maybe a dessert with that! Hope you feel better. You know how to pace yourself and you are so good at listening to your body and taking a rest when you need it.

  17. I make that too with lentils. I also make a "ricotta cheese" that we use in bakes. Delish. Not with the red but similar idea. Since I started making my own sorta like bean curd, I've not bought it out. It's soooo nice not to have to buy (unless it goes super sale and I want it), but even then, cheaper and better at home. For me. I can only speak for me. I also use it to fill homemade ravioli. Video being made but not sure when/if I'll get to publishing them. Right now just making them. Anyway, great job and Happy Eating!

    1. I'm very pleased I found out how to make this. Much cheaper than buying and I usually have red lentils around. I also have brown ones, but I think the red looks more appetizing.

    2. The reds are nice. Used them in homemade noodles too. They work great at a pretend bean curd. Just for the pretend ricotta I use the mung because it's just sooooo smooth. And hubby loves them too so it's a win win. But I agree, red are very pretty. I love them as well.
