The FOMO is on the garlic's part.
I noticed some little scapes here
and thought I was getting a message
So I separated out the unsprouted segments, peeled and froze them, pausing to admire the silver beauty of the skins
Then planted the sprouting ones in their new home. They're now installed next to the ginger.
Go scapes!
Brilliant!
ReplyDeleteThey will grow.
ReplyDeleteI have never grown garlic. I'll be following with interest!
ReplyDeleteI expect I'll get scapes, those long green stems you can use as a vegetable. But we'll see.
DeleteI've never thought of planting the sprouted ones, I just chop them up and use them. but maybe next time. it might be fun to grow my own garlic.
ReplyDeleteI imagine you could have a bed of them. Plenty of outdoor space.
DeleteVery cool, I must try that.
ReplyDeleteHmmm - we've planted garlic many times and always in the fall and leave it in the ground (well mulched) over winter. Will be interested to know if you get scapes from these because if you do I know Resident Chef will want to try it.
ReplyDeleteThere will be a scape by scape report!
DeleteI'm really curious too! We do as Magpie's Mumbling does, so this is a new adventure to watch. :-)
