What opening day is for baseball fans, first asparagus day is for local farm fans. The farm team.. couldn't resist.

growing up whenever asparagus was served for dinner, it came from a can. ick. then eventually I had the opportunity to eat some fresh cooked but not to mush. it's a staple around here. one of these days I'll plant some.
ReplyDeleteIt's good to bite off the tip when you pick. Lovely, like fresh peas. If you plant you'll need a couple of years to get a crop. It's worth the wait. And once established it grows like mad.
DeleteLovely as can be.
ReplyDeleteIt's a ceremony. The man behind me said, isn't this great? Sign of Spring! I agreed totally.
DeleteIt is such a great vegetable!
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures and lovely asparagus! I'm happy for you.
ReplyDeleteMmmmm, nothing like fresh asparagus! Enjoy!
ReplyDeletemmmm - not here yet, but soon I hope (as I look outside and realize it's snowing....argh)
ReplyDeleteArghghgh, it can't snow, it's nearly May.
DeleteCanada doesn't live by the rules it seems!
DeletePicking some up tomorrow at the farmer's market! (Online ordering and curbside pickup for now).
ReplyDeleteWe often briefly marinate ours in olive oil and soy sauce, then broil them (also briefly). Spring!!

There's nothing like local fresh picked asparagus. It's delicate, needs same day eating.
DeleteI love fresh asparagus and buy some whenever I can!
