Lanyards and Misfits

I'm about two thirds through the bandwoven lanyard to go with the anti-ICE whistle.

You see here how I've improvised a way to advance the warp and keep it from unrolling as I work my way up. I've rolled and tied it on a handy shuttle, the ends of which I slide through loops on my backstrap (in fact bathrobe) belt, to keep it taut.

You have to do this to be able to  reach the heddle as the work lengthens, while still keeping tension on the warp threads.

And Misfits, it's Thursday as of this writing.

Rameer, with a seasonal hat and a cheery grin and wave as always

And here's the haul. Canned goods for the food pantry, rainbow carrots to steam, a surprise since I expected the regular, Tony's Chocolonely, to share with the soup-bringing neighbor, broccoli because it's been a while, feta cheese to sprinkle over steamed broccoli.

Bananas because I can, beautiful brown free range eggs which I now have a lot of, not realizing I'd ordered them again, plenty of coffee because I got to the last grain yesterday and that wasn't a good thing, pure cane sugar, fair trade, to beat into yogurt with banana slices and for other purposes, as they say in Congress.  Aren't those apples beautiful? One-a-day morning break.

As usual it's hard to know why these foods are discounted, because they look fine to me.

I'm getting used to seeing a space outside the door, no longer thinking my car's been swiped. The refund for the auto insurance arrived, very welcome.

Gary came to collect his begonia and it's looking good. I suggested a bigger pot, because it's really outgrowing the one it's in, and he may or may not do it. Then a few minutes later came dashing back in search of car keys he dropped somewhere, but not here

Happy day everyone, sometimes it's good when there's nothing there, car, begonia, whatev,  you know. This doesn't apply to car keys.

  1. And you never have to think about car keys again :-)

Rameer does look seasonal, and how nice to share a wave through the window. It's so nice when business includes a human touch.

The lanyard is coming along well, and the rainbow carrots are so colorful!

    1. I still check for car fobs! I think it will be a while before I stop. The carrots are interesting, different colors have different flavors. So I steamed them and will roast. The white and yellow are nice roasted, the orange not so much.

  2. I have a fondness for your bandwoven lanyard. SG once made chicken soup with purple carrots. Bad idea.

    1. My comment vanished! That must have been a lurid color. Like borscht. I don't like red soup so much.

    2. The chicken turned purple. It smelled and tasted exactly right and we couldn’t eat it.

  3. I have discovered that habits continue for quite awhile. Months after her passing, I still sometimes look to check Lacey’s water dish, but it is becoming less frequent.

    1. I still look around for Duncan on the stairs, years later. He was a great cat but a tripping hazard.

  4. How many lanyards are you making? Anyone would be delighted to receive one of those.

    1. Depends on how my hands hold up. I've got warps for two right now. Each takes many hours, so we'll see. I'm aiming to send off the latest socks and gloves Monday so I'm hoping at least one lanyard goes with.

  6. I will head to the grocery store today. It's so cold outside but I can count my steps around the store since I won't get out for my walk. Also, I can do a video with Aiko and April.
The weaving is coming along nicely!

    1. I start figuring out whether walking is indoors or out about now. Cold here.

  7. I've planted rainbow carrots again this year. They're coming along. I'm hoping the rain we've been getting will encourage the whole garden to get a little busier.
There looks to be NOTHING wrong with those beautiful vegetables and fruits.

    1. Sometimes it's nothing more than irregular size. It's great food.

  8. This old-habits-die-hard lady want to know, do colored carrots taste any different?

  9. Just wondering if you could rent out your parking space. When I had my condo and only one vehicle, I rented out my other spot.
    Your grocery haul looks lovely.

    1. Parking spots though more or less assigned, are common property, so they're HOA, not individually owned. I have two spots, so it would be nice.

  11. The weaving talk is like Greek to me, but I love hearing about it--lol!
Enjoy seeing what you get with the Misfits. Cute hat he had on!
    Refund money is always good.
Glad Gary got his begonia, but I hope he found his keys!

    1. Just let the weaving flow over you! I guess he found the car keys, because both cars left eventually. Never a dull moment.

  12. That is going to be a beautiful one of a kind lanyard.
I also can’t think why all that food is rejected by the supermarkets
It’s crazy but they do it here too.
I have found a company that, like misfits, rescue “strange” fruit and vegetables
I might start ordering from them if I need anything

    1. You have the advantage of being able to grow some food, too, a nice advantage.

  13. Does Rameer have blond dreadlocks?
Did you grow up knowing about or eating broccoli? Sprinkling feta over it sounds good.

    1. Rameer has a fabulous do -- waistlength blond dreads. He's a handsome guy, walks with attitude.

    2. Broccoli has pretty much always been a staple as I remember. Feta crumbles are good over a lot of steamer vegetables.

  15. I can't say as I've ever eaten carrots other than the orange variety. Interesting to hear you say that they do taste somewhat different. To me, carrots should be orange, just like zucchini should be green and tomatoes should be red.

    1. The yellow are a bit like turnip, the white more like parsnips. In comparison the orange ones are sweet, which may be the attraction.
