In order of importance, a friend came by unexpectedly, late morning, bringing these
She claimed it was congratulations on the new fridge, but when I mentioned Handsome Partner, she acknowledged that, yes, she knew.
In fact it was she and Gary who came over right after he died at home, and supervised the funeral home taking away his body, to save my having to do it. Handsome Son and I went to another room until he'd gone. You never forget friends who do a major thing like that.
And Textiles and Tea was about wet felting, a labor intensive and beautiful textile art form, guest Lisa Klakulak. She gets a lot of inspiration in the wilderness, especially around the remaining glaciers.
Meanwhile, the mail arrived, bringing
my new rigid heddle. This one's 24", really big, wide enough for serious cloth and wallhangings so today's about threading the heddle, sleying, technical term.
There's a special sleying tool, but I use a tiny crochet hook. Sarah Swett, famous weaver, uses a paperclip, another reason for fangirling a major artist who likes to make her own tools.
Later Gary, same one mentioned above, came over and installed the new disposal.
And that's pretty much yesterday around here. A wonderful one, by end of day.
It's amazing what felting can do!
ReplyDeleteYou can make clothes this way, even.
DeleteGood and thoughtful friends there.
ReplyDeleteYes, beyond kind.
DeleteYou've known Gary and your other friend a long time. They are true friends. How kind they are.
ReplyDeleteLocal friends like this are a big reason to resist moving to a retirement community.
DeleteIt's nice to have friends like that - ones that will step in and do what's needed with no questions asked.
ReplyDeleteAnd...my warped sense of humour is now giggling at the thought of our Boud slaying the sleying. Another case of how 'interesting' the English language can be.
I wonder if it's a weaver's in joke??
DeleteBeautiful flowers! Glad it turned out to be a good day. :)
ReplyDeleteJust shows how an unpromising day can turn out.
Deletea good day, yes. thoughtful friends and neighbors. I've always wondered how you keep felted art clean, free from dust. not like canned air can really remove it and you can't just rinse it or wipe it off.
ReplyDeleteNelly Kouzmina makes clothing with wet felting on a silk ground and I believe she told me she washes them.
ReplyDeleteLove the sae pinks in the arrangement
ReplyDeleteThey really pop in the picture.
DeleteWhat wonderful friends.
ReplyDeleteI'm very lucky to have neighbors who have become as good as family.
DeleteGlad it was a good day including the memories of your wonderful partner.
ReplyDeleteYes, it turned out very well.
DeleteFriends- real friends- often show their love and caring in ways that do not require words.
ReplyDeleteSo true.
DeleteThank you for your kind words about Tigger. The messages of support and condolences were humbling. A friend doing an art degree some years ago did her exhibition in felted sculptures. I was amazed by the scale and complexity. She had suspended some from a grid of wires she had managed to push through these 'bodies' at great expense to the muscles around her wrists (she later confessed).
ReplyDeleteI'm glad Tigger's Wee Blog continues. He's still with us in that way.
DeleteFelt is an amazing material, many kinds and functions.
Good friends are hard to find. Treasure them always.
ReplyDeleteHave fun playing with your new loom. I await your creations eagerly
Friends who don't go away, in any sense, are jewels.
DeleteThe heddle is just a bigger version of the one I'm weaving the skirt panels with. The loom is the same back strap loom you saw before. I'm embarking on my little rug.
You do have such special and treasured friends, Boud, and we should all be so fortunate.
ReplyDeleteThanks very much for your comment on my current blog post about text style and use. I can understand how blogger can be difficult many times in switching things. Besides, I always think you are a very clever person.
Kudos to you for being able to text on a tablet, which is something I definitely cannot do and never even attempt on my cell phone. By the way, the intent of my post was nothing more then fodder for subject matter, not to misstep on anyone's toes.
Yes, I get that you were just musing on the topic, but I also get too many instructions online to do this and that, all impossible on the devices at my disposal. So I was talking more to your readers, really, to remind them of their privilege!
DeleteYour friend is wonderful -- she did the right thing. All the right things.
ReplyDeleteShe also has a killer sense of humor!
DeleteI will just add to the above, yes, good friends are what makes our lives so much better. When you have no handsome son or daughter, when you live into old age, as I have, friends are really all you have. I love and appreciate mine so very much.
ReplyDeleteYrs you have good friends and I'm glad they're there for you.
DeleteYour friends are true treasures. And probably many more we have not heard of.
ReplyDeleteThey are, yes.
DeleteYou have some very kind and thoughtful friends. I'm glad you treasure them - I would.
ReplyDeleteI do. They're like family, but so much better than my actual family.
DeleteYour friends are genuine treasures. And how thoughtful are the gift of flowers.
ReplyDeleteYes. Such chance, to have such neighbors who became friends.
