Yesterday was about returning to hippie food. Granola and yogurt happened. Enough for about a week of power eating.
Breakfast for now, though, is cranberry sauce on toast. When you think about it, cranberries, sugar and lemon juice really make jam. That's my reasoning anyway.
I also ordered a couple of treats ahead of time for various December events, pictures when they arrive.
And, partly as a response to the national law that requires people to shop the day after Thanksgiving, I went my contrarian way and freecycled some artworks.
They've all been exhibited, the ink drawing in a fairly prestigious juried show, and they've run their course with me. The recipient was happy, so that's better than sitting in my loft.
Elsewhere, Liz Hinds, see her blog, she's lovely, writes occasionally about absent mindedness, reminding(!) me of a recent attempt I made to boil an egg for tea.
I put the little pan of water in to boil, forgot to set the timer, and went away. Arrived back later to a hissing noise, a skim of water, spitting as it dried. Just in time to avoid burning the pan. Which was okay, as it turned out, because I'd also forgotten to put an egg in.
Happy day, everyone, when you boil an egg remember to add the egg.

Well, at least no egg was destroyed in the boiling-dry incident!
ReplyDeleteExploded egg is no fun to get off a ceiling. Or so I'm told.
DeleteLiz, I relate. A couple of years ago I installed a little hook on the side of the counter next to my cooktop, for my keys. So I couldn't drive off to do errands without checking that the burners were off.
ReplyDeleteThat habit of leaving home with something on the stove is why I got a microwave, to reduce the danger.
DeleteThank you for the kind mention. I have in the past burned a boiled egg so you did well in comparison.
ReplyDeleteI suppose that's a charred egg, new delicacy, presented in a posh restaurant.
DeleteHippie food is GOOD food!
ReplyDeleteI've taken to set my phone timer every dang time I put something in the oven because I, too, will wander off and forget about things.
I love the way you free-cycle. Such an excellent way to get rid of things and to acquire things too, should you need them.
Interestingly, most of my electronics came via free cycle, and I tend to offer art and related materials.
DeleteThat's a funny little anecdote at the end.
ReplyDeleteIt was pretty serious at the time!
DeleteI generally forget to set the timer when I start the sprinkler. Sometimes with my oatmeal. Then I just have to guess if it’s done.
ReplyDeleteThe art of guesswork!
DeleteThat's a funny story. Especially the ending!
ReplyDeleteIt was one silly thing cancelling out another!
DeleteI would love that for breakfast, or anytime. Have a nice day.
ReplyDeleteI notice how often cranberries get into breakfast these days, since I started with dried cranberries when I couldn't get golden raisins.
DeleteKeys are...never go back to the computer once something is on the stove or else use your phone's timer on Very Loud.
ReplyDeleteBoth are very good guidelines. Very loud, yes, maybe I could get a trumpeting elephant sound on the phone.
DeleteIf you find a trumpet elephant tone, then please let me know. :)
DeleteIt really should be an option. On the stove, the front door, your car! I could have a lot of fun with it.
DeleteYour granola always looks so delicious. As for the pot, water and egg. Well let’s just say I’ve been there lol
ReplyDeleteI think we've got so much incoming, it's not surprising things get away from us once in a while.
DeleteHi Boud, Neat post … I especially like your mention of “the national law that requires people to shop the day after Thanksgiving.” Isn’t it amazing how society works now? 😊
ReplyDeleteThe whole notion of Christmas shopping is so overdone.
DeleteI left the burner on low after I removed the pot and egg. I discovered it an hour later.
ReplyDeleteI'm not admitting how often I've turned the burner to low instead of off.
DeleteOh goodness you just reminded me i am meant to be paying attention to cooking chickpeas.😱🙄
ReplyDeleteQuick, catch them before they scorch!
DeleteI remember putting the baby's bottle on to boil (this was the 80s and that's how we sterilised them!). I then went up to the corner shop, popped into the neighbours and returned home to a house filled with black plastic soot. I was using one of the saucepans that advertised they were indestructible. They were! Sadly the plastic bottles were not. The recipe book I had open for the night's dinner still has black soot on that page.
ReplyDeleteOn the bright side I expect there were no bacteria left.
DeleteI love toast with cranberry sauce I just discovered it recently.
ReplyDeleteI am always afraid of leaving a pot on the stove. Glad you caught it
Cathy
It's a good breakfast jam, not too sweet. In fact I like it on just about anything!
DeleteGranola and yogurt - food of the gods if you ask me.
ReplyDeleteA little 'hint' re the boiling water in a pot - get yourself some marbles and put them in the pot. Hopefully you'll hear them rattling when the water level reaches a dangerous place. I've done that for years with the double boiler because I ruined several by forgetting about them and boiling them dry.
Before she got a whistling kettle, my mom did that marble trick, I think. Forgetfulness must run in the family.
DeleteFreecycling your art is a treasure gift for the recipient!
ReplyDeleteI think it's enjoyed. To me it's stuff at this point!
