Now going full throttle, and the downside, also Octopus Day

Tuesday I had hearing friends Ruth and Laura tuned up to 100%, and on the way home, a tire pressure alert sounded, so loud because of the upgrade, that I nearly swerved off the road. Gary will get to it when he can,  meanwhile I missed my Tuesday knitting group, tiny first world problem.

He too, has people in Florida and is very concerned about them, largely because they either can't or don't plan to evacuate from Milton. So much worry all at once.

Meanwhile he's starting to stake out the tulip bed..measuring, looks like.

I'm reading Tey's Franchise Affair, published in 1948, and surprisingly up to date about media tearing down innocent people and building up criminals. Also great characters and a good distraction. I'm just zooming through the collection, just right for my mood now.

Handsome Son's Tuesday morning text wished me a happy Octopus Day, so I'm passing it on

One of the smartest animals there is.

People come fairly far down the intelligence scale, we find, the more we learn about other earthly animals.

She's from New Mexico, from a long family history of weavers, and likes the saori, spontaneous form, with wabi sabe, appreciating the beauty of the  broken and irregular,  and the natural effects of pressure and wear. She also does her own  photography, and you see the beauty of her composition. It's masterful as photography rarely is.

Happy day everyone,  safety first if you can manage it. People who go through Milton and out the other side, please let us know when you can.

  1. We're hearing that there are tremendous traffic jams as people try to evacuate. Petrol stations are running out of petrol. It sounds horrific.

    1. I think so, too. People who tried to leave found slow traffic to the point where they're running out of gas before they're far away.

  2. Facebook today fed me a clip of an octopus climbing inside some kind of clam shell and closing the shell with itself inside. That was interesting it two ways, one being the octopus doing that, and secondly, why was it in my feed? Now I know.

    1. Octopuses (?)"are great planners, so I think they organized it

  3. I've never known a tyre pressure sound for any good reason. Always solved it with a reset. Presumably tyre wear.

    1. I usually find one tire is low. Until it's inflated, the alert keeps returning. If it's fixed the alert stays off.

  4. The weavings are stunning. I would wear a serape if I wouldn’t look so out of my element. I don’t mind standing out with my clothing choices, but I think I’d feel uncomfortable in this one. Milton looks frightening. What a season.

    1. I think your context would count, too. Milton is a mild name for a serious storm.

    1. You can catch the episode on Facebook if you want to see her in action -- HGA has a FB account where they record T and T.

  8. Those tire alerts can be scary.
Ms. Griego is certainly the perfect model for her dramatic designs. Very Southwest.

    1. She's very theatrical. Her clothes are more model than off the peg style.

  9. octopi are extremely intelligent and I think most species on this planet probably are in their own way in their own environment. it's just that humans tend to rate intelligence as it compares to our own. Griego's weavings are wonderful but they don't seem very practical for actual wear.

    1. That's a good point about intelligence. I imagine other species are amazed at humans who can't provide their own food and housing at the advanced age of three.
I think her clothes are really meant as dramatic statements.

  10. It's beyond my imagining what it is like to be in a situation like Helene followed quickly by Milton. Horrible.

  11. I am hearing pretty dire predictions about Milton. Fingers crossed for Gary's folk.

  12. It is very tragic to hear what everyone in Florida, Tenn. and North Carolina are going through from Hurricane Helene, and now Milton is sounding very scary for Florida. Prayers for everyone. The Octopus is a very interesting creature! The textile.......blankets, coverings are so lovely!

  13. Even here we have heard all about Milton. I’m sure it will be terrifying to any that haven’t evacuated.

  14. Tire alerts are no fun. I won't drive my car until it's fixed. I decided mine were all from rim leaks, and had my tires all pulled and remounted. Seemed to do the trick.
