The weather, puzzles and a pant

Here are the weather forecasters studying conditions

So that was yesterday, more happening like that today.

However, the pant -- garment trade term -- is coming along. Here's the front. Today I'll pick up the live stitches and start the back, which will be a different shape. With a different yarn, since I've used up this one. So far so good. Any blogistas who knit with cotton yarn, what's a soft kind I can order?

And the puzzle is coming along slowly. Yesterday I made the usual discovery, that I was expecting it to be much bigger and more difficult, and found that truck section here actually fitted onto the flowers here, simplifying everything.

I'm sure there's a sermon there, aren't you glad I'm not a lay preacher, yet again! I could bore many a congregation.

Happy day everyone, piece by piece!

  1. the 'pant' is looking good though it strikes me as being, feeling bulky but I suppose would be good for winter days.

    1. It's exactly the same thickness/weight as the commercial underwear I'm currently using.

  2. I blame you for my newfound puzzle addiction. I sat down at the one I'm working on last night "for just a minute" and before I knew it, forty-five minutes had passed.

    1. I'm saved from that fate by being unable to look down for more than a few minutes at a time. Otherwise who knows..

    2. I'm with Ms. Moon. Laying my recent lack of accomplishments squarely at your feet :-)

  3. That's the most comfortable underwear I think I've seen. You are having some full-blown winter weather. Stay warm.

    1. It's definitely January. I think the snow drops, which bloom unabated under the snow, might be finished before we see them again.

  4. Such a great idea to knit panties. Puzzle solving is also a great idea. I'm reading blogs and eating a croissant, drinking coffee. I used to have great source of soft cotton yarn, but it closed down before COVID.

    1. Croissant and coffee sound very good. Years since I had either.

  5. It's a pant in the British sense! Pandas look like they're built for that kind of weather.

    1. It's a still from a marvelous video of these babies throwing themselves about and sliding in the snow, occasionally stopping for a bamboo snack.
Yes, clothes are different in Britspeak. People talk about trainers, to me they're people rather than shoes, and jumpers, track athletes to me!

  6. The pant is beautiful. You do realize though that you can't wear anything over it. How will anyone see it? Are you going to make “the bra” to go with it?

  8. We are stuck on our puzzle. It takes forever to find one piece. I haven’t given up though! Yours is coming along!

    1. I notice when I'm looking for one piece that what I visualize isn't in fact like the piece when I finally find it.

  9. Glad you have good projects to keep you at home. NOT a good weekend to be out and about. There may yet be snowdrop blossoms when the February thaw rolls around.

Moving with Mitchell - best comment today!

    1. I think the snowdrops will be over before the snow melts. I may dig to see them. Yes, Mitchell's is a five star comment!

  10. I don’t think I’d have the confidence to drive on snowy icy conditions. But then again if you have done it all your life. Still stay safe on the roads.
Bamboo cotton is really soft Id go 100% bamboo for underthings.

    1. I just ordered a bamboo cotton baby mix today, so you're endorsing, thank you. I'm still struggling with a bad battery, so I need to get it replaced, snow or not, sigh.

  11. The ice storms hit my area, coast and inland Oregon and moved east. Stay safe. I love the yarn work and the puzzle. I started some yarn work yesterday. Stay warm over ther.

    1. You're having a real siege of ice and cold, and I hope your roads open soon. What are you making?

  12. WE have been very cold here but it looks like a slight warm up is on the way so I can get my car washed.

  13. Catching up on blog-reading before delayed chores this morning - it's 3F and I want the goats to stay abed - and enjoying your undies-knitting adventure. I at first thought it was going to be a cheerful swimsuit, made as a sign of faith that warm weather WILL come again. Maybe you'll have double-purpose undies :)

    1. People do knit and crochet their own swimwear, so they'd probably think the same!

  14. Seeing your current knitting project reminded me of my mother who used to buy a type of 'winter underwear' that was made of something akin to fleece (don't know what the fabric would have been). They had longer 'legs' and put me somewhat in mind of the long underwear my dad used to wear. My mother never, ever, wore anything but dresses so I guess her long undies helped keep her warm in the winter. I remember her being most upset when the only store in town that carried them went out of business. Of course that was back in the days before online ordering.

    1. I wonder if the fabric was a brushed wool one? Necessary in a Canadian winter.

    2. I don't think it would have been wool because it wouldn't be washable - but it definitely was 'brushed'. I think it was a type of flannel.
