Not feeling great this morning, kind of low in energy, but work called.
I wrote to my State Senator Linda Greenstein, currently Assistant Majority Leader, requesting that NJ join the part of WHO which attends to outbreak alerts. Only sovereign nations can have full membership, but states and New York City have joined this section of WHO so as to have early warnings.
Then it was a note to the great Daily Beans podcast, usually excellent on research, who fell down this morning on Talarico.
He's running for Senate from Texas, in a Democratic primary against the great Jasmine Crockett. But, big but, he's been taking GOP pac funds, and lied about it. His campaign says he's running as a Democrat but not allied to the party (!)
He's a potential Sinema or Fetterman, and they have not understood this yet. Talking about him as if he's the second coming. No, he's just another mediocre white male Republican plant, getting too much attention. Well, now they know.
And then I signed on to ACLU to add to the names they're taking to the April 1 (no joke) case they're arguing before SCOTUS It's in defence of birthright citizenship, which T***p has been attacking since Day One.
Anyway all this happened before I showered and cut my hair. I'm feeling better on all counts now. Apologies to readers outside the US for this domestic policy-heavy post.

I always find your protest efforts to be of interest so don't worry about sharing them. Perhaps a day of sloth is a good idea to recoup your energy level. Take care of you!

DeleteDomestic policy posts are often the best ways for us to see behind the headlines we get in our own jurisdictions - stuff gets sifted and we get sensational without substance (I don't give a monkey's about ex-royals, i do give a careabout people posing on the other end of their political spectrum to mislead voters and undermine how democracy is meant to work)
ReplyDeleteYes, true. Just last week a Londoner says she thinks the US is sleepwalking into fascism. I definitely saw red over this, being in the heart of a massive resistance movement. But I realized she'd read it somewhere probably in a doomsayer newsletter. And I realized I can't educate everyone, too busy resisting!
DeleteTalarico is definitely a Fetterman type. I just think people want another bland white man; Crockett is too much everything for them. I don't think she'll win the primary, which is such a shame. Take care!

DeleteWell, Liz. You have done it again! Been right there at the right time. I plan to vote early. Have stalled because I need to look into some of the candidates. There are many for several places, including governor. How I would LOVE to see Abbott gone! But never heard of those running. Gina Hinojosa sending out emails and texts, but.... And. I have been REALLY weighing the choice between Crockett and Talarico! My thinking has been that I much prefer to vote for Jasmine. She is good like AOL and Ilhan Omar. But, I was waffling because I fear Talarico has a better chance because he IS a white male! And we need a Democrat no matter what! I did not know about Talarico's questionable stance! Makes me absolutely furious that a person can be elected to represent one party, then change after the fact. I do not think that should be permitted. Thanks to you, looks like I need to vote for JC and cross my fingers! 🙅♀️
ReplyDeleteI think you're wise to choose Crockett . no use choosing someone who ends up voting with the other party. Talarico originally started running for Gov, then switched when Crockett announced for senator. That says a lot.
