Act Blue, Rockit apples, and knitting capers

I waited till some thawing happened on the sidewalk before I went out today. We're in the thaw, run, freeze sequence and yesterday I had to be very cautious because of sudden ice patches too wide to step over  The wind both days was icy, so no pictures. Just out, walk, home to tea and cake.

More signing and writing today, aside from thanking my elected representatives for standing fast about Homeland security.

I wrote this today to the execs of YouTube and Google. Note the threat.

No business is too big to disregard its consumers. I already use anything other than G as a search engine, best I can manage now. And I've been steadily complaining about AI fraud to YouTube. I'm hoping enough people push back on ads for ICE recruitment to make them think twice. It worked with Spotify.

The sponsor of this campaign is Act Blue, fyi. IYKYK.

Recently someone asked me what IYKYK means! A true meta moment.

And about Rockit apples, take yet another bow, NZ!

I wondered if gala apples were involved, another favorite. They're crisp and juicy and not tart. I can't do tart apples. Anything with crisp in its name makes my face go all painful. Pink Lady, too. Just doesn't work. But Rockits rock.

And an update on the knitting. As usual I find that the better the yarn quality, the easier on my hands.

This pattern really is designed for circulars which I currently don't have, so I had a good time figuring out how to compensate.  As usual, modular design rules. I also knew the starting yarn wouldn't be enough, so I'm recruiting a related one to add in.

You Are Here

At this point if I had circulars, I'd add 49 stitches at each side. Then I'd knit all of them for four more inches

As you see, the current 117 stitches are already a crowd. So I really enjoyed coming up with a plan. This is not about making do, it's about finding another solution.

So I plan to knit on for the four inches, then cast off. That will complete the middle section. Then I'll cast on two lots of 49 stitches on these same needles, each with a yarn supply and knit both for four inches. This will keep the size working and the yarn well distributed.

Then I'll stitch or crochet the three pieces together.  Ta-daah.

At least that's the plan.

Happy day everyone, you can figure things out if you just breathe.

    1. Such tiny actions. But if a lot of people do it, it adds up.

  2. I love a good Honey Crisp apple. It seems to me that new varieties of apples appear every year. I have to wonder- what happens to all of the established orchards which have only a few varieties? Do they have to rip out trees to make room for the new ones? And how long does it take a new tree to mature enough to harvest a good crop from it? I think farming in general must be one of the hardest ways to make a living in the entire world. There are so many factors which no one can control on top of the ones that can be. None of them easy to deal with.
I have no idea where all that came from.
Your scarf is going to be lovely.

    1. You are welcome to honey crisp! I agree that food production is one of the hardest most heartbreaking ways to live. I never fail to thank everyone in the supply chain.

    1. I tried them once on a friend's enthusiastic recommendation. Oh dear, pain in my face, just not for me. I think it's body chemistry. But you -- enjoy!

    1. I think we really have to. I don't want to look back in regret on what I should have done.

  5. The yarn combines my kinds of colors. Thanks for the sample letter. That will be my first project tomorrow. I’ll try and remind myself to breathe, too... if I really have to.

    1. Thank you! I adapted a form letter Act Blue created and added in the threats! Do breathe you'll like it.

  6. I love it when we figure something out.
I’m pretty sure we are the last generation to be able to do that.
Mostly I hear,” well I don’t have that so I’ll go buy it. “
I look forward to seeing the final results

    1. We also hear oh I don't have time. Meaning I don't know how, or I don't give it a priority.

  8. IYKYK?? I didn't know that about Google sponsoting ICE ads, I didn't even know there were ICE ads. I have never seen any.

  9. I didn't know about ICE and Target and I found a BBC story that I think covered the problem well.

    1. Thank you. It took a bit of thinking and waving my hands about to simulate how the pieces needed to be made! We'll see how it works.

  11. I like crisp apples and absolutely hate ones like McIntosh that are soggy and like eating mush. They're good for making applesauce though.

    1. I think Macintosh are the Edsel of the apple world. Likewise the various ones with delicious in the name.

    2. Agree with red delicious being awful; I grew up with a golden delicious tree fully worthy of her name. All of our ex-pets were buried under her. ❤️‍🩹

  12. I actually saw a recruiting ICE add on TV. I can't remember what channel. It was a 3 second add and I haven't seen it since. These are vile people. Something nice is our knitting. Have a nice Valentine's day.

  13. double ended needles?I gues that would be a faff for long straight pieces. We don't see Rockit apples in supermarkets here so maybe only exported. some of the best apples we get locally are never exported (and even only available regionally because they don't travel well) - 'Jonathans' come to mind

    1. Rockits are now grown in the US, so maybe only the technology was exported. They're very small so they may have a niche appeal.

  14. I suspect my current favourite, Bloss, might not be to your taste. I like sharp, crisp apples.
