Early bird celebration

To fit into Handsome Son's schedule, the official birthday bash, lunch here, will be on Tuesday, a bit early but best he can do. Fine by me.  While he's here we can put up Christmas decorations, such as they are, one small box.

Meanwhile, I had a rush of brains and thought if I want sturdy gloves, I can multiply the threads.  So here we go, holding three at once, nice tweedy effect and definitely sturdy, bigger size. I can use sock weight yarn until reinforcements arrive. Go me!

Since you're probably totally at a loss to fill your weekend time at this season (!)  I'm kindly offering a non festive, non seasonal puzzle. I'm going to get on with my library jigsaw.

Except it occurs to me that I may need to clear the puzzle off the table for Tuesday's lunch..not as clever as I thought I was. Go me, indeed, who am I kidding?

Happy day, everyone, and keep going, despite logistical goofups. Remember, self, at least you haven't set fire to Notre Dame cathedral.

  2. I love puzzles also but only have one table in the house. The other table I brought in was only temporary as it is my porch table for summer crafts.
My mom was a huge puzzler. I used photos I'd taken of complicated scenes and then made them into puzzles which I sent her years ago.

Hah hah! I haven't set fire to anything today!

  3. The only fire I've started is in the fireplace!! One thing I know for certain is you will figure out a knitting conundrum. As far as the puzzle, I think you may be moving it for Tuesday. That one looks complicated. Now, watch you get it done!

    1. The funny thing about puzzles is that the more detail and lines, the easier. The hard ones for me are those with blocks of dark shadows, or plain areas, no landmarks.

  4. Good thinking on the gloves! I figured out the word puzzle but I'll keep mum to give others a chance. :)

  6. Oh, I'm going to have to ponder that word puzzle for awhile. It's a toughie!

  7. Great plan for the gloves but you must have strong hands, mine start to ache a bit keeping the right tension on thicker gauge yarn these days. The colour effect is nice. No one is e ed at a loss to fill a weekend here, they simply aren't long enough... xxx F 'n' Mr T

    1. This time of year I don't think anybody has much spare time! My hands are fine, but my back aches with the fatter yarn, oddly enough. I think the tension is transferred. So I rest more than I really want to.

  8. Two gray and one pink and yet the pink dominates.

  9. I’d definitely run into disaster trying to knit all that
You need one of those tables I’ve seen advertised on Facebook. It has a removable top and underneath I a secret puzzle area. When not working on the puzzle the top goes back on and everything is safe inside

    1. That suggests an idea. I can throw a table cloth over the puzzle pieces, and save having to break it down and move it. Thank you!

  10. I used to put a piece of chipboard or plywood over my puzzles to keep the pieces in one place (I am a messy puzzler). Maybe you could do something similar (sort of like Angela's fancy table!).
The gloves are wonderful and the conundrum is confounding.

    1. Next time I get a Misfits box I'll open it to use. Good idea. I already broke down and recycled the latest one

  11. When I've had the issue of a partly worked puzzle, I've slid it off onto cardboard or posterboard. Put it in a safe place (an unused bed, maybe). Easy enough to put it back on the table later. I am hoping for a clue from somebody about the puzzle. Think it's over my head without more to go on. :((

  12. A wee hint about puzzles - find yourself a large piece of cardboard and work the puzzle on that. Then it's a fairly simple matter to move the entire piece of cardboard elsewhere when your table is needed. Easy to turn if you're trying to reach a piece that's on the other side.
I'm puzzling over the word puzzle....hmmm...

    1. I don't have an elsewhere to put the cardboard! Not possible to carry it upstairs, round three corners to the guest room bed, without holding banisters. So I think throwing a cloth over is the solution here.
