Spring is starting to happen, weaving and Freecycle

Here's a wonderful spring happening, permission granted from photographer Kizzia Mildmay

And after mentioning paper weaving using shredder strips, here are a few pieces I made using my shredded photographs

Bathroom art!

Artist book covers awaiting assembly and pages.

And while I looked for the weavings, I came across paper to Freecycle

Materials usually go over well. The tan papers are mulberry, and there are various tissues, tracing paper, nice card stock, index cards, drawings on artist made paper, a grab bag.

And there's quite a bit of artwork, drawing, embroideries, photo and fabric transfer, ink and wash, ink drawings, so we'll see if there's a taker

Weekends are good for Freecycling because people are free and out and about.

So that's a change from medical bulletins and miserable billionaires.

Happy day everyone, even if you're just a hundredaire!

  1. There are definitely lots of things people would want.
I’m sure you will be rid of it by the end of the weekend

    1. They've been waiting quite a while, I'd forgotten about them. One day!

  3. Art supplies are so expensive that I'm not surprised that they go fast on Freecycle.

    1. Yed. It's so long since I bought any, I've lost track. Also artists tend to give them to each other, so there's not a lot of buying.

    2. Yed? Who invented that version of yes?

  4. What is freecycling? Is that a place or is that giving stuff away for free? Like a chair on the side of the road with a free sign? Or is Freecycle a place like online? Thanks.

  5. I imagine art supplies are something that's in high demand on Freecycle so no doubt they're gone already. I haven't heard of a Freecycle locally but hopefully it's coming to this area at some point.

    1. You could probably get one started in your own building.

    2. We actually do have a form of it in the building - we take anything we don't want down to the laundry room where they have a dedicated shelf for such things. Pretty much always things disappear in a hurry. That's were RC gets most of his jigsaw puzzles. They also have a book shelf that we regularly supply with 'new' books.

  6. I imagine your Freecycle offerings will go quickly.
It is so beautiful here today that I wish I could share it with you.

    1. A bit cold here, sunny, but 30s earlier. Art supplies usually have takers, yes.

  7. I like your weavings and can imagine how they feel beneath the fingers.

    1. That's a really good point -- they're nice to handle and run your fingertips over.

  8. Such creative pieces! I hope the supplies are grabbed up quickly.
Near the end of the month I am usually down to single-digitaire--LOL!

    1. Singledigitaire! You and others among us. I think the materials may have found a home. The art pieces are still waiting pickup.

    1. I've used my shredder more for paper weaving than for documents. It's fun to do.

  10. Wow, your shredded paper weaving is fantastic! I tried to find a free cycle here. There is one but no one seems to use it.

    1. Thanks for the nice words. I think you may not have a big enough local population for Freecycling to work. It needs a lot of locals.

  11. This is all wonderful Boud, I've never seen anything quite like this before. It's very clever and very pretty. Well, from this hundredaire (love that I'm going to use it if I may), enjoy the rest of your Sunday and have a great week :)

  14. Hundredaire and singledigitaire - very good words. I may swipe them for the next rally.

Also, the Red Dress Project you showed us yesterday - WOW.

  15. Slightly different freecycling here where I live, there is your kind too of course, but here down the back by the garages is a "dump site" where people can dump stuff they don't want and a big truck comes along and takes it all away. Most dumped items are rubbish but recently a friend found a stash of near new artist drawing paper pads, clean and dry still.

    1. We have a similar thing by our dumpster enclosure. Things that could be reused are put outside the dumpster, and neighbors can take them. We also do drive by announcements on free cycle notifying the membership when we've spotted good items at the dumpster.
