The cooking and baking day yielded
Carrot, sweet potato soup
Whole-wheat, oat and chickpea bread with cumin seeds
Cordial from fresh limes and lemons with turmeric, honey, ginger and molasses, seen here draining
Mayo in the background that didn't emulsify but did taste very good, so it works as an extra flavor, a spoonful trailed over the soup bowl to serve.
So now even if I have no interest in cooking for the next few days, I'll still eat well. Supper was a bowl of soup, slice of new baked bread, glass of cordial. The cordial is quite intense, so you dilute it to drink.
Happy day everyone, I hope everyone is holding up okay. Ted says sit in the sun, it's good.
I’ll be right over!
ReplyDeleteGood, there's plenty to share.
DeleteI am taking inspiration from you re cooking. I made some 'patties' last night and I think I will make myself some carrot soup.
ReplyDeleteIf you make a big pot of soup you're set for days. Come home tired, have a bowl of soup, it's great
DeleteI’m with Ted as well. Time in the sun lifts the spirits!
ReplyDeleteThe light level is so cheering.
DeleteThat bread has a nice rise to it! I'm baking bread today too -- a nice, no-knead yeast bread made with cottage cheese. It makes wonderful toast!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds interesting. I love bread that makes good toast.
DeleteLooks good! I'd never turn down sweet potato soup. (Or sweet potato anything, for that matter.)
ReplyDeleteIt's good, especially thickened with yellow potatoes.
DeleteThat bread looks amazing. I love a nice dense bread that goes so well with soup. I don't think I've ever tasted cordial but it sounds like it would be refreshing. Alas no sun here today so I can't join Ted.
ReplyDeleteThe cordial is very good. Maybe RC can be encouraged to mix some.
DeleteMy! You were busy! Looks good. :)
ReplyDeleteI was out of all these items, so I had to get moving.
DeleteThat bread looks amazing. Such good rise on such dense ingredients. I'd be proud if I'd made it.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I got the original recipe, which I've changed a bit (of course), from Heathy Bread in Five Minutes, a great book with a lot of good ideas. I use the basic recipe and change ingredients.
DeleteYou had quite a day cooking. The soup looks amazing. It's been cold so soup is a good thing to have on hand.
ReplyDeleteSandy's Space
I love to have soup in the freezer, a meal in itself.
DeleteYour bread looks spectacular!
ReplyDeleteIt did turn out well. And the oats create a great crust.
DeleteIt all sounds yummy. You do eat very well. Lots of vitamins and minerals. Very healthy
ReplyDeleteI like to eat well, better than medicine!
DeleteDoes your cordial of fresh limes and lemons, turmeric, honey, ginger and molasses, have a special medicinal reason, it sounds as though it might. I wondered because its got turmeric in it and I take that for arthritis?
ReplyDeleteIt's just a combo of things I love, no doubt healthy. I use a lot of turmeric for its anti inflammatory power and its golden color which makes foods appetizing.
DeleteI once knit my dear friend a sweater and hat for her teddy. All her friends wanted one for their teddies. I said absolutely not.
ReplyDeleteThis Ted came to me complete with hat and sweater.
DeleteNo sunshine in Houston today. Probably tomorrow. I have not cooked much at all for a year or so. Illness (mine) has made my husband learn many new skills. Generally I’ve loved cooking and creating for many many years. I do love bread and soup. Thanks for demonstrating. Barbara from Houston
ReplyDeleteI'm glad he stepped up to cook. But I expect you miss being able to do the creating yourself.
