The reveal

The cooking and baking day yielded

Carrot, sweet potato soup

Whole-wheat, oat and chickpea bread with cumin seeds

Cordial from fresh limes and lemons with turmeric, honey, ginger and molasses, seen here draining

Mayo in the background that didn't emulsify but did taste very good, so it works as an extra flavor, a spoonful trailed over the soup bowl to serve.

So now even if I have no interest in cooking for the next few days, I'll still eat well. Supper was a bowl of soup, slice of new baked bread, glass of cordial. The cordial is quite intense, so you dilute it to drink.

Happy day everyone, I hope everyone is holding up okay. Ted says sit in the sun, it's good.

  1. I am taking inspiration from you re cooking. I made some 'patties' last night and I think I will make myself some carrot soup.

    1. If you make a big pot of soup you're set for days. Come home tired, have a bowl of soup, it's great

  3. That bread has a nice rise to it! I'm baking bread today too -- a nice, no-knead yeast bread made with cottage cheese. It makes wonderful toast!

  4. Looks good! I'd never turn down sweet potato soup. (Or sweet potato anything, for that matter.)

  5. That bread looks amazing. I love a nice dense bread that goes so well with soup. I don't think I've ever tasted cordial but it sounds like it would be refreshing. Alas no sun here today so I can't join Ted.

    1. Thank you. I got the original recipe, which I've changed a bit (of course), from Heathy Bread in Five Minutes, a great book with a lot of good ideas. I use the basic recipe and change ingredients.

  8. You had quite a day cooking. The soup looks amazing. It's been cold so soup is a good thing to have on hand.

  11. Does your cordial of fresh limes and lemons, turmeric, honey, ginger and molasses, have a special medicinal reason, it sounds as though it might. I wondered because its got turmeric in it and I take that for arthritis?

    1. It's just a combo of things I love, no doubt healthy. I use a lot of turmeric for its anti inflammatory power and its golden color which makes foods appetizing.

  12. I once knit my dear friend a sweater and hat for her teddy. All her friends wanted one for their teddies. I said absolutely not.

  13. No sunshine in Houston today. Probably tomorrow. I have not cooked much at all for a year or so. Illness (mine) has made my husband learn many new skills. Generally I’ve loved cooking and creating for many many years. I do love bread and soup. Thanks for demonstrating. Barbara from Houston

    1. I'm glad he stepped up to cook. But I expect you miss being able to do the creating yourself.
