So this was the morning start, when it seemed like a straightforward job.
Here's a shot showing you the crumb. Nice texture.
This will cut up into four loaves, solving the breadbag situation and the expense, together. It smells wonderful, too. It's been a while since I was up for baking bread and I'm glad I did it.
I did stockpile a few pounds of whole-wheat flour in the freezer because who knows.
So here we are. Not the day any of us had planned. Gary is trying to get away to the Superbowl, among all this.
One lovely interlude when his daughter, with her youngest, came to visit, lovely baby, so smart, not even a year old yet, and so cool!
That's where we are today, mixed day with lovely things among the other things.
Happy day everyone, remember the shakuhachi effect, translation: it's all good.
I remembered this when I found this, this morning, the pedestal broken. I now need to replace the toilet.
Now I do need the plumber. I left a message for him.
What a mess! So glad it’s finally resolved and you had it in you to bake that beautiful bread. Gary is good to have around. Keep feeding him!

DeleteOh dear goddess! That’s enough! (I can’t get hot water in my shower again. Time to move.)
DeleteOh my, that is NOT the way one wants to spend the day! Hopefully, it wasn't freezing cold out. The bread is absolutely beautiful. A lovely way to top of an otherwise unexpected day.

DeleteGlad all came good in the end! Enjoy your bake!
ReplyDeleteThere's another chapter, see update!
DeleteA crummy day eventually led to actual crumbs. Plumbing is right up there with car troubles. Actually it is worse.

DeleteThat was a long day without water. What a relief to have everything in working order again.

DeleteThinking it's resolved, and relaxing, and then finding it's not, is a real kick in the teeth.
DeleteNot a way to spend a day but glad it all came alright (ish) in the end.

DeleteGood luck with the plumber. Enjoy your bread. I bet it makes delicious toast!
ReplyDeleteThe bread is the bright spot!
DeleteSorry you had a disaster to deal with
ReplyDeleteGood that you know how to bake bread that lovely!
It's very good to have a bread supply in the house. It's not hard to do, but I get reluctant.
DeleteWater issues in the house are dreadful. Glad to hear the issue is resolved. The bread was a nice diversion as was the little sweetie! Have a great day, Boud.

DeleteGary is a wonder and so willing to tackle jobs that most people wouldn't dare. I must admit to a great deal of curiosity to know what that exactly is in the last photo and why you now need a plumber. All that upheaval and you still managed to make bread!
ReplyDeleteThe picture is the pedestal of the toilet which I found broken this morning. I now need to replace the toilet. I think Gary may have cracked it by over tightening the hose, and it broke .
DeleteYour bread is beautiful, and nothing is better than homemade. So sorry about the rough water times and the cracked toilet. Hang in there. How wonderful to see a beautiful baby.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
Hanging in there!
DeletePlumbing problems are never straightforward, it seems to me. And yes- they are so messy! And then of course- we don't miss our water 'til the well runs dry OR the water to the house is cut off. Amazing how many times a day we turn on the faucet.
ReplyDeleteA baby! I know you couldn't post a picture but I wish you could have.
That bread is fit, as we say sometimes around here. As in "fit to eat."
The baby and her mom are both beautiful, but, yes, no pictures, security, privacy etc.
DeleteThe bread is a consolation.
Such a mess and then just when you felt relief, a cracked toilet pedestal.
ReplyDeleteAs i was reading and looking at your bread you had written exactly what I was thinking, nice texture! Let's hope today goes smoothly for you.
Well, there's good food in the offing. So there's that.
DeleteOh no, plumbing problems are awful. Hope you can get the plumbers out soon.
ReplyDeleteNext week. I think they're all off at the Superbowl!
DeleteOh boy. That sounds like way too much excitement for my taste. Did the toilet get broken while the other plumbing problem was being fixed, or is it unrelated? I would have thought it would be really difficult to break a toilet.
ReplyDeleteIt's possible the hose was overtightened into the tank. Also possible the frigid water coming in overnight after the pipes had been empty of housewarmed water, found and exploded a hairline crack. That's happened in this bathroom before. It's why I have this toilet, to replace another broken one!
DeleteHope you find a good plumber. Been there for sure. Not fun. Love the bread. Oats are so fun to use as flour. We had oat, spelt and buckwheat waffles today. Delightful.
ReplyDeleteI love the oat and whole wheat combo. I have a good local plumber, known him for years. But he's expensive, so Gary often does small stuff for me.
DeleteI love oat flour with organic sprouted brown spelt. Love me my spelt. Glad you have a good plumber. Sometimes it's best to go to the pros. But I also get the cost involved.
DeleteAll of that has reminded me why I'm designing a house with only one toilet indoors no upstairs, and drains in the floors of the wet rooms. What a horror getting a wet ceiling. That bread is major consolation even if you did have to work for it.
ReplyDeleteGlad it finally got resolved--whew!
ReplyDeleteYour bread looks great!
Hope you have a quieter day. :)
Not yet! Read the update.
DeleteOh No!! Bummer!! :(
DeleteWhat a lovely day you had, not. And still you need a plumber.
ReplyDeleteSome parts of the day were lovely. Some not so much.
