Handsome Partner says goodbye

Handsome Partner, June 27 1932-August 8 2011

HP died peacefully, without a moment's distress or fear, at seven p.m. EST tonight, August 8. We think he held on to have one last birthday with Handsome Son, before he left us to go home.

We have had almost continuous company, with friends, neighbors, hospice people, and feel surrounded by love and help both in real life and in the ether, with you, dear friends. Your cards, flowers, notes and letters have been wonderful.

You can not know how much help you have given all of us for years, and now we have all succeeded in getting him to the end of a long difficult journey, happily and with great peace and acceptance.

After I made one last picture of his hands

I took off his commitment ring, and I'm wearing it next to my own on my ring finger.

  1. ((((Liz))))) You sound so peaceful. I've been checking in because I had a feeling HP would pass today. I'm grateful for everything that has made this easier for you both. Words really fail me here, but my heart is with you.

  18. Lovely to see his sensitive hands.

You handled this so beautifully, Liz, made it so easy for others to read about and follow and share in what's so often an agonizing private time where people are shut out (take it from me, I know!)

I feel I've known Andy through your words. I'm sorry for your and your son's great personal loss but feel so grateful and honored to have been a witness to it.

Hope you can take care of yourself and rest up now, though it sounds as if you've brilliantly managed to do that as well.

  19. I've been out of touch but you've been so very much on my mind, Liz. I kept having little "Liz flashes" in the oddest moments - usually in the midst of something that should have occupied my head as well as my hands. Well, my whole head and heart are with you now and I'm sorry for your loss.

But, oh, what a great love you had ... and what a privilege it has been to witness it for so long and to know that all of your hard work and determination to smooth his way with gentleness, dignity and love did just that for you all. Even now your words and actions glow with love and life as always and makes me glad. I will forever be amazed and motivated by your strength and grace - the hugeness of your heart in such a little woman. Rest in peace dear HP ... and hugs, blessings and much love to you, Liz, and HS.
