Mail call and Misfits

Awake again at dark o'clock, and I went to get ice, then on the way to the kitchen, noticed a piece of mail in the basket above the shoe rack. Evidently brought in by Handsome Son and put down for a minute!

Anyway I found and opened and love it. Handmade! Lovely. Thank you so much, C

In a place of honor on Walker Two-step's tray.

And this morning HS put out the bags and icepack for Misfits pickup.

I've been doing well on the food I cooked ahead and now I'm ready for a change of pace.

Here's Kareem arriving with the box

Handsome Son brought it in and I unpacked and washed the produce

More of the small gala apples I have midmorning, a bag of trailmix to share with HS, yogurt to go with blueberries, a freebie can of pineapple chunks, also to share, wholegrain bread because my energy isn't back up to baking yet, diced tomatoes for all sorts of use.

All set now. I was tired after prepping the food and putting it away, but it's good to get back into ordinary tasks.

Speaking of ordinary I had an accidental adventure this morning. I was distracted by something I needed to take care of, unrelated, amazingly, to Hippolyta, and  needed something from the kitchen.

And absent-mindedly walked there and back completely unaided, forgetting about the walker, till I got back. It felt okay but I trust I didn't do any damage. I'm officially not walking with even a cane without company, so this was a black diamond run. Doh.

Gary has made a bedside step for me, and I hope Emil approved, so I can start sleeping in bed. My back will be happy to get off the sofa.

Happy day everyone, have you ever managed something successfully, because you didn't know you couldn't?

    1. I'm not surprised that you've overachieved! And yes, you know what a difference it makes to be back in your own bed.

  3. That is such a good question. I'll have to think about it. Meanwhile- YAY YOU! And you have reminded me that I keep forgetting to buy plain yogurt. I'm about to go put it on my list. Thank you.

  4. It's easy to revert to habits without thinking.

  5. You must have felt ok to have ventured forth unaided as you did. That’s great! Take it easy though.

  8. I love that you walked there and didn't notice it until you got back. That's cool.

  9. The black diamond run indeed! Good on'ya, as my Scandihoovian friends would say. It's encouraging that you're thinking about cooking again - a good appetite, a good Misfits resupply, and a smidge of energy to tackle the kitchen.

Also, what a lovely surprise in the mail! That's a beautiful card.

  10. Happy accident, but don't repeat soon--lol!
Yes, it is marvelous to get back to the ordinary everyday tasks. Funny how exciting it can be to wash your own potatoes and put away the groceries, eh? *big smile*

  12. Walking without aids without realising is a very good sign.

  13. I think the fact that you didn't even realize you were on a "black diamond run" is evidence that you are healing well!

  15. I'm sorry the sleep isn't great, and I know it's not fun to pace around one area of your home. But I'm thrilled that you're doing so well overall, Liz!

Yes, several times I've done something successfully because I didn't know that I couldn't. I think of that paradigm often, and it tickles me! One that stands out in my mind is from college circa 1998 -- I had a Mercury Sable with only a radio, and I really wanted a CD player in my car for the 6+ hr drive to/from home in NJ and college in VA. I went to the electronics store in our Virginia college town and bought a stereo and the proper wire stripping and crimping tool, and then I installed it in my campus parking lot just by going step-by-step thru the manual's directions. I'd never done anything of the sort! But I really wanted to play audio books on CD (you could borrow them from Cracker Barrel restaurants, and of course I used the library too) during my long drives. I've done a few other things like this too, not realizing that I "couldn't" do them ahead of time! Well, good on your for the walking. Now we know that unaided walking is absolutely in your future!

    1. Well, go you! Yes, pushing ahead anyway can get you far. And thanks for the encouragement.

  16. Yes, I've told myself, having completed something that wasn't yet at my level, you made a mistake Barb, now just carry on. You do sound as if you're doing well, and I've decided to support the artists who make cards and take a nickel away from Hallmark.

    1. Yes, that approach sounds like you -- I'm here, so let's press on! And I support buying from original artists and artisans, great idea.

  17. You are healing remarkably well. I will need to think about your question, nothing comes immediately to mind.

  18. Good thing you didn't get caught going on your unaided walkabout! I expect likely someone would have yelled at you. It's great though that you're feeling up to it even though you know you're not supposed to.
