Today a wise friend, retired nurse, nurses rule, messaged me to remind me it's not unusual to have a little dip in energy and rise in pain about now after surgery. She's right, so I'm just not pushing myself.
I did my exercises, practiced walking with a cane with HS escorting me around the living room, and did the stairs, same escort. Lasagna for lunch.
Now it's Clatterford and Mma Ramotswe and ice.
Happy day everyone, I think we all have a bump in the road now and then.
I think you are doing remarkably well. I wouldn't call this a dip, just holding your own for a day or two.
ReplyDeleteI like that reframing.
DeleteNo dip is going to stop you!
ReplyDeleteJust a little slowing down.
DeleteIt's so hard not to rush things and then end up needing a day 'off' from all the activity - or maybe even more than one day. It's a difficult balancing (hah - pun wasn't intended but I'll go with it) act.
ReplyDeleteYes, it's a bit of guesswork. But every day isn't going to be an improvement.
DeleteReminds me of what a midwife told me once which was that three days after a birth, the mother's milk and her tears both come in. Not the same at all, I know, but with healing it is so often two steps forward, one step back. Patience is required.
ReplyDeletePatience, what's that? My default mode is when in doubt, push, but I need to put that on hold today.
DeleteYou kept going though! Well done, Boud!
ReplyDeleteIt's my default setting.
DeleteJust a plateau while your body adjusts. You're doing really well. The body also needs rest to heal and will sometimes let you know it if you forget--lol! ;) *hugs*
ReplyDeleteGreat advice from one who knows. Thank you.
DeleteIt sounds like you are doing all the right things.

Surgery is always going to take a lot out of a body, and resting as needed is just the smart thing to do. I hope the pain stays manageable. And I'm glad the timing is right on Jam and Jerusalem - things like that seen to appear and then vanish from YT, so we were both in luck :)
ReplyDeleteThe timing on J and J was just perfect. I'm really enjoying, and getting irritated that there weren't more seasons.
DeleteJust because we think. Oh just a little surgery it’s ok, doesn’t mean it was traumatic for your body. It will take time. Listen to your body. It will tell you.
ReplyDeleteThat’s what I tell my son as well.
So true. And the anaesthesia doesn't leave right away, so you realize more each day. I hope he does well, so much.
DeleteAlways a bump in the road. Thankfully, there are many more roads than bumps.
ReplyDeleteI like that take, Ivy.
DeleteYes! Me too!
DeleteI hope it is just small bump.
ReplyDeleteI think so. I was getting a bit cocky there
DeleteAfter your checkity-check day of accomplishments, no wonder you're a bit worn out today. Glad you're (reluctantly) listening to your body. Your nurse friend gave you a wise reminder. Clatterford and Mma Ramotswe are just the ticket. Hope you sleep well tonight.

Lying down hurts. Walking doesn't! It's the muscles and tendons recovering. This too shall pass.
DeleteSo good to have knowledgable friends who can offer reassurance when you might have been concerned. You are doing better than most I think!
ReplyDeletePlenty of good advice around me, all appreciated.
DeleteConsidering all the 'check' testing you did the other day, I am not surprised you are feeling a drop in energy and an increase in pain. Here's to better days ahead.
ReplyDeleteRecovery is not linear. You've reached a plateau, so rest and breathe.
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to see how things are going...everyone else has said what I'm thinking too. Be well at your own healing pace.
ReplyDeleteYou're doing great. Rest and relax when you need to.
ReplyDeleteYes indeed, we all have a bump in the road at one time or another. Take the rest, it is necessary.
ReplyDeleteRest is always a good thing, although for someone who has been as active as yourself, Boud, it's perhaps not always an easy thing. I can fully understand as presently I've had to slow down with a problematic knee and will be going for an orthopedic evaluation next week. Rest, relax and read as much as you can, my blog friend, you won't regret it -- WOW, that's a lot of "R" words!
ReplyDeleteA dip need not be a canyon. Take care.
ReplyDeleteYes, don't overdo it. Then rest when you need to.
