Home now, with Hippolyta, Polly for short, that was a busy day or two. I had two sessions of PT, one in the hospital, one at home today.
Handsome Son brought me home and I've starting using the walker in earnest. Yesterday I did manage to navigate the PT or OT equivalent in the hospital, the bathtub with the bench like mine, the mockup car with real car seat setup, the flight of stairs. So they sprung me today.
HS really should have a fanclub. The stuff he realized to do and did, was far above my expectations. He already got messages from my online pod community thanking him and admiring him. We've started on the freezer meals, so glad I did them.
The expected post operative pain is happening, and I have pills.
Also better views
Walker with tray in place waiting the arrival of supper, whee waiting for food to be brought. Nearly as good as being a man, you never heard me say that.
And this
Frilly hats to minimize friction, by the non wheeled legs, on the floors, and make them glide quietly. Handsome Son and I figured this out. Two pieces of fleecy fabric, two doubled rubber bands. When they wear out I can replace them in seconds.
And here's
Korean spice bush, viburnum carlesii, suddenly starting to bloom and scenting the whole patio.
And
Late daffodils and early tulips blazing away, first thing I saw coming home.
Happy day everyone, thanks for all the kindness.

"Nearly as good as being a man, you never heard me say that."
ReplyDeleteThis is the sort of thing that makes me love you to pieces. I am SO glad you are home and so glad that HS is stepping right up as I had no doubt he would.
I am making a lasagna in your honor tonight. And raising my martini glass to you. Hurray!
Also- don't be afraid to take your pain medication. Better to prevent it than try to catch up with it when it's in full bloom. You are in no danger of becoming addicted.
M. R. Moon, Former Nurse, BSN
It's not the fear of addiction, it's the fear of another hours' long severe nausea, which seems to have been caused by the good pills. Nobody's sure.
DeleteRecent shoulder replacement here. Call your surgeon and ask for a script for Zophran, pronto. It's an anti-nausea drug they should give out with pain killers. It's FABULOUS, and makes the pain pills so much more tolerable. Doc should have no problem with request.
DeleteOf course, it's the weekend, but while you're waiting for zophran, break your pain pills in half and take half a dose every two hours. Same relief, less nausea.
Thanks for the tips. Nausea was gone early yesterday.
DeleteThe best place to recover is in your own home Enjoy being spoilt
ReplyDeleteI do agree. Too many people in the hospital, most of them in my room!
DeleteGreat news! Home is best and you were prepared!
ReplyDeleteUrs, it usually feels better at home in familiar and quieter surroundings.
DeleteI thought I'd typed yes
DeleteIt must be nice to back in your own home, and adjusting what you normally do to some differences.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is nice to be in familiar surroundings.
DeleteSo very glad you are back home!!
ReplyDeleteI found out in the hospital many years ago that morphine made me terribly nauseous--room spinning, barfing sick. Took a few hours at least. Enough that I got a few hours of sleep after surgery--lol!
I am so glad you do have some pain medication that works for you...and you are up and moving already and home. Ahhh! :) :)
You've been through the mill, Rita. My own health issues pale in comparison. But you're so generous in supporting me and with good humor.
DeleteI did not hear you say 'almost as good as being a man' and I certainly did NOT laugh out loud. Welcome home Boud!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you didnt ..
DeleteGlad you're home safe and sound, with Handsome Son to look after you! May your healing be swift and without issues! Have a good night's sleep tonight!
ReplyDeleteIt's certainly quieter here, no buzzers and beeps and Russian hematologist ladies with limited English waking you by announcing "I take your blood now! Fist, pinch, open, thank you goodnight.
DeleteHS does indeed have a fan club! So glad you're home and under his TLC. Take good care and enjoy being home.
ReplyDeleteWe've adapted a lot, moved furniture and walker unfriendly small rugs, Mike filled the kitchen with his favorite food in addition to what I provided. Also he brought two laptops!
DeleteHats off to you both and I feel so relieved! Tell HS he does have a fan club, as do you!
ReplyDeleteI'll tell him. I'm relieved that it went off successfully. I read the clinicians report saying it was correctly fitted and inserted, always good to know.
DeleteI'm new to this blog so don't know what you've been through, but if things now are looking up for you, I'm glad.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I'm glad you're taking part. All the previous posts are available to read if you'd like to. I never archive anything. I know it would be that safe place you can't find things in
DeleteGlad things are going well!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, nothing special happening is always good.
DeleteWelcome home, Boud! Count me as part of the HS Fan Club. Your Mike is pretty special, as is Emil, of whose fan club I am also a member.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the peace and quiet and the much improved views of being home, and may your recovery be uneventful and speedy.
Chris from Boise
I like both your picks! Hoping for better days each day from now.
DeleteHip Hip Hooray!!!
ReplyDeleteGlad it all went well and you are home.
Coming from one who knows! Thank you. Mine went very fast to needing a replacement and I got it scheduled very fast, too. Now to catch my breath.
ReplyDeleteEvery day will bring improvements, some so small you will hardly notice them. Take care and rest. Sleep is good.
ReplyDeleteThank you, good advice.
DeleteSo happy to know you’re home and well cared for. I hope the pain doesn’t last long. I love those little felt booties. I’ve always seen tennis balls. Sending you all good thoughts for an excellent recovery.
ReplyDeleteThat was boudian need to make not buy. Much more fun. I'm doing better today.
DeleteSo glad it went well and handsome son is on duty.
ReplyDeleteCathy
Thank you. I'm just so happy it's done.
DeleteSo glad you came through the surgery with flying colors, Liz! I've been having computer issues that rendered me "speechless" but my thoughts have been with you. Wonderful that you can be HOME so soon after, and reaping the rewards of all your careful prep work and planning. Thumbs up to your support team. And to be greeted by blossoms - how lovely!
ReplyDeleteYes, very cheering arrival! And I'm getting the benefits of the boring prep work. I'm so relieved that it was all very undramatic.
DeleteHappy you are home and that HS is doing such a stellar job of taking care of you. May recovery be swift.
ReplyDeleteJust an idea--Another potential help with the walker is the use of split tennis balls under the legs to help you glide along--even outside. Helped my FiL. Can be purchased as such (or perhaps your friends have some old tennis balls hanging around); they are not expensive. Alternatively, there are inexpensive little plastic "skis" that fit on the legs that also work well for gliding the walker and won't wear out.
Thanks for the tips. I'll be using the walker for three weeks, tops, not outside before maybe next Tuesday, so I think it's fine.
DeleteWow! I'm impressed that you are home and it sounds like you are doing so well already! Keep up the great work!
ReplyDeleteThey do things quickly now. Fast and faster!
DeleteWonderful! So glad you're home and things going as expected. HS is doing a marvellous job. I credit his mother who taught him well.
ReplyDeleteThat's nice to hear and I credit him for taking it in!
DeleteI think Handsome Son already has a fan club and I'm a member! So glad that so far, things are going well. Keep it up!
