Today is Misfits day, this time Ronald has the honors, and the morning shift.
I got a refund on the eggs because two arrived cracked, very unusual. The other ten are fine but eggs count as a unit so Misfits takes the loss on the dozen.
Sugar because I use sugar, and this is organic and fair trade, or I suppose as fair as you can get in the sugar trade. Nice pack of hake, affordable white fish which will make fish cakes and whatever else I think of, maybe just battered and fried. Spinach which will make an appearance below, along with berries and a couple of these apples.
You'll notice other things happening in the background on the stove too. That's because I finally got around to making the crunchy tofu sticks. So easy and I really enjoy them.
I make a dozen sticks from one container of extra firm tofu. Simple batter, panko, fry in avocado oil, dipping sauce made of ketchup, soy sauce and a dash of oil. Done. Today's lunch was roast chicken chunks with tofu sticks.
I forgot a picture of mine, but they're pretty much like these
And I found a smoothie idea on Shug's blog, thank you, Ivy, which I tried with the ingredients I have, not much resemblance to the original. I don't like the name smoothie, a bit twee, but I do like the results, and definitely appreciate the reminder.
Here's two instant breakfasts or something. It's a nice mix, not all smooth, more of a roughy, but good anyway.
Today was not all food. I made it to the mailbox and met a couple of neighbors on the way, who both offered help in the next little while, so nice.
Then there was actual mail in the box, a beautiful pop-up from C, thank you so much.
I've been playing with it. Local birds there, too. It's a great lift to my spirits on a grey cold day.
Good day, and I'm recovering from yesterday's excitement. My shoulders definitely feel the results of lying for long periods on my back, arms stretched above my head. But there's worse stuff around us, not much to complain about really.
Happy day everyone. I may need to wait a day to crochet, to give the shoulders a rest, but that's fine. I'm planning the stitch pattern, simple, the size, small, figuring out the hook and number of chains to start. For once I'm thinking ahead, amazingly.
And in more direct resistance, I wrote an email to one of those treacherous Dems who voted for the SAVE act, which will disenfranchise millions, Jared Golden, of Maine.
The others close their contacts to anyone outside their district. If you're in the districts of Ed Case, Hawaii, Henry Cuellar, Texas, or Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, Washington State, please give them your thoughts. Firmly.
What a truly lovely card to receive. I keep thinking that I must get back to old fashioned mail and send some letters. Thank you for that reminder. Very glad that you have some all clears.
ReplyDeleteIt's such a treat to get real mail in the box. I just love this card and the impulse to send actual mail.
DeleteThe misfit deliveries are interesting. I will have to check into it.
ReplyDeleteCathy
I like misfits a lot, good people to deal with. And nowadays they have a big range to order from, all kinds of rescued and odd sized but perfect food.
DeleteSounds like you are back at it, by which I mean living your busy, interesting life. I've got to make some of those tofu fingers. I would like to try them in the air fryer.
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking about the first smoothies I ever made. They were strawberry, banana, and a little orange juice. Perhaps with some ice? I can't remember. But I do remember how good they were. Now it's all about getting those greens and fiber things in there. I miss the good old days.
It occurs to me that this is a way to sneak vegetables in for people who don't usually like them. I don't need to be persuaded, though.
DeleteOf course. I think I just like my greens to be something I chew.
DeleteIt seems as though your nutritional needs will be met for another week, and that is a good thing.
ReplyDeleteI'm completely spoiled now, having groceries appear on the step, after a few clicks to make the order. It's years since I shopped in person.
DeleteWhat a beautiful card! A nice way to celebrate Spring. I heard a robin singing today, actually. I couldn't spot it, only hear it.
ReplyDeleteRobins are busy here, too, running about yanking food from the ground. Not much singing, maybe too busy.
DeleteIt was great to hear from you yesterday, but glad you took a couple of days off posting to gird your loins for that NUCLEAR stress test. Never heard of such a thing. Cardiac clearance is such a relief, as Helen seems to be taking a toll on your normal activities. I love the way your neighbors (and HS of course) are gathering around to help you pre-and post-surgery. It will be a relief, though, when you can finally ask them to 'stand down'.
ReplyDeleteC's pop-up card is so cheerful!
I looked up that Yeung Man Cooking recipe the last time you made it, and it sounds easy AND delicious, but I don't deep (or shallow) fry things. Ms. Moon's air fryer sounds like just the ticket, but being air fryer-less, I may try baking them.
Chris from Boise
However you try the tofu sticks, try them. They're very good. I don't use the amount of oil Will does. I do put them on a paper towel though, so they don't taste oily. The dipping sauce is a good touch.
DeleteThe special stress test is for people who can't do the treadmill. It raises the heart rate to get the same effect. It's weird.
Nice to see you post. Beautiful card and you sound content despite the shoulder, also nice to see.
ReplyDeleteThe card is lovely to handle and open and shut! My new toy. And I reckon the shoulder situation is not much compared to knowing my heart's working well. Everything's relative, no?
DeleteYou have wonderful neighbors. How very kind they are. And I really do love your Misfits -- it always looks so good! (As does what you make from it.) Happy weekend. Chill out!
ReplyDeleteI live in a nice community, mixed races, ages, accepting.
DeleteI love that pretty pop up card! I've been trying to send birthday cards in the mail again as it is always fun to get real mail instead of crap advertising.
ReplyDeleteHope your shoulders feel better soon.
That's a good idea. Always cool to get something you like in the mail.
DeleteI was just reminded about the non-treadmill stress test and why you would have had a couple people hovering over you - the RC had that done and he was told they had to be right there with the 'antidote' in case he had a heart attack triggered by the test. I suspect it would have been the same for you. Sure instills a ton of confidence when you know there's a possibility!
ReplyDeleteGlad you're feeling up to cooking and dealing with the Misfits box of goodies.
Yes, that's one potential outcome! Doctor literally had the antidote ready in his hand, for the earliest point he could put it in. It was pretty dramatic there.
DeleteI'm doing better now the tests are complete.
Such a beautiful pop-up card. I always used to buy those for my mother. A shame about the shoulders. Hope those feel better quickly. But so glad all the tests are now behind you. The tofu fingers look delicious.
ReplyDeleteI hope your mother got the same pleasure I'm getting from my popup. I just love the concept. Using a cane has affected my shoulders a bit, and the testing added to it but I expect I'll do okay soon.
