Exciting times

At the moment life is practicing walking, resting and exercising. Once an hour I walk five minutes. This is pretty dull, maneuvering around the limited ground floor area, endless multipoint turns,

so I've taken to destination walking.

Like collecting a glass of water from the kitchen and watering a plant, the coleus is glad about this. Or using the grabber to lift the small waste paper basket onto the walker tray and deliver it to the kitchen for HS to empty and give back.  Anything to add a bit of interest to the Walker two-step expeditions.  The tray has become the Swiss army knife of receptacles.

This morning the contractor friend who designed and built the sofa risers came over with some of his home baked ham and a couple of deviled eggs, enough for HS and me.

Later Gary called to check and wish me Happy Easter, neither of us observant, but who's counting?

I did fine while HS was at work, got enough energy to fix my lunch -- ham sandwich and a deviled egg.

It's all go around here! And catalogs came in the mail which I'll leaf through, buy nothing from, and recycle.  I've been thinking about resuming the crochet but I doubt if my skills are up to it just yet, a bit wobbly.

This afternoon HS and I were out for the count, snoozing on adjacent sofas, he having been up since 4, to get all his morning stuff done before his 7 am shift start. He had a long day.

I'm a bit low in energy just now, so, happy day everyone, thank you for all the greetings and wishes, all back atcha.

  1. It’s a joy to read how well you’re doing and how independent you are. Sending you all good thoughts.

    1. Thank you! Have you seen all the pointy hats you can handle? I guess the Easter excitement has dwindled now.

    2. Sunday was a very big day for processions, but I had had my fill of pointy hats.

  2. Your doing really well.
Sleeping is definitely a part of healing. Handsome son also deserves to have a nana nap too

  3. The destination walking is a great idea! Both of you needed naps! After all the walking I can understand why, Boud. Well done.

    1. The destination walking is to break the monotony! It gets small tasks done, too.

  4. You are very practical and as self-sufficient as possible.

  5. Well done on the walking. Better than going round and round in circles!
I took crochet into hospital after my knee replacement cos I thought it would be a simple task to keep me busy in rehab. The good drugs they gave me for pain made a mockery of that!
HS is doing a grand job.

    1. That's my thought about crochet -- my brain and hands are not quite in sync just now.

  6. Thanks for the sweet card, Boud. Very cute!

It sounds like all systems are go, including naps. Resting is an important part of recovery, so I'm glad your body is insisting on those naps in between laps (and the slightly less boring destination walking). Glad your years of sit-to-stand exercises are paying off!

I for one appreciate you sharing the experience, though hope not to need the knowledge in the near future.

    1. Let's hope you don't need to know! But it's no longer the lengthy ordeal it was years ago. However, it's definitely confirmed the value of sit to stand. Some simple moves turn out to be amazingly good. Also sit to stand preserves your ability to climb -- stairs or hills!

    2. The card was a bit of silliness I just thought why not! Current mood.

  7. I like the idea of making destination walks as much as possible. Why not, eh?
Glad you both had a snooze! :)

    1. The snoozing was inevitable! And anything to make the practice walking more interesting.

  9. Good to hear your recovery is going well. Smart to find ways to alleviate boring (but necessary) walks. Greatly admire your independent spirit and HS who is there when you need him.

    1. I tend to be independent to the point of unreason! But HS has been a gem.

  11. You really are coping remarkably well. 'Destination exercise walking' is a brilliant idea, since the effort has a dual function, and you can feel that you have achieved even more.

    1. Yes, you get it. Everything to serve at least two purposes if not more.

  12. Good news, that you've figured out how to use your brain to make the walking more purposeful...having two tasks at one time solved. Keep up the good work on healing. I'm now on second phase of normalization after pneumonia, after kind of skipping over it for my week in the high country.

  13. One of the phrases I heard in nursing school really stuck with me and that was "insult to the body." Any major injury or surgery or whatever is indeed an insult to the body and rest is absolutely required to heal it. Or, beg its pardon?
I bet you are so glad to have that surgery behind you. And we are all so glad to hear of your progress.

    1. Since my usual walking is for a purpose, iit seems like a good idea to adapt to the situation. HS rolls his eyes a bit, as I trundle around like a cleanup robot!
