Textiles and Tea, and pancakes

Yesterday's Textiles and Tea featured a cheerful worker in woven sculpture. She works in -- paper! Strips of paper she's hand painted with acrylic, to make a supply for  weaving.

Although it's referred to as basketry, these are not containers for carrying physical objects, but vessels for carrying ideas.

I only caught part of the episode because of an unexpected visit from Handsome Son. He got his share of Valentine chocolate cookies and a pot of tea, and was enthusiastic about the cookies.

After he left, it was time to make pancakes, for Pancake Tuesday, half and half chickpea and whole wheat flours, and they came out lovely and light.

With agave syrup.

Happy Valentine's Day

Happy day, in any years!

  1. I’ve never tried agave syrup. It’s always maple here.

    1. It's new to me too. Usually I'd use lemon juice and sugar. Or honey.

  2. For the past few years, pancake day has snuck up on us, and has been gone before we knew that it was here.

    1. Bilston is great. In other contexts he's very moving, too, writing about refugees. Yes, it was a good day.

  7. Really creative shapes in the 'basketry' - they must encase some very fluid ideas.

    1. Aren't they cool? The blue one with fronds waving is about isolation and reaching for connections during the pandemic.

    1. I've done paper weaving. The paper is quite tough if it's painted with acrylic, which is liquid plastic. It was good to see him.

  14. "A vessel for ideas" - what a nice summation of beautiful, creative work with an unlikely medium. Love the Bilston poems and that HS was able to stop by.

  15. Can't imagine weaving such intricate vessels using paper. Wonder if she stiffens it somehow.
Nice that Handsome Son paid you a surprise Valentine's visit.

    1. I mentioned that she paints it with acrylic. It's plastic, very good for weaving.
It wasn't exactly a v day visit, but it fitted together anyway!
