Here's S's current work in progress, full of texture, lovely to touch. She raises the bar for the whole Friday knitting group.
R tried it on, proving it's a great unisex item, because he looked terrific in it, and liked how you can choose a few ways to wear it. He's thinking of crocheting one for himself.
Chat ranged over stain-lifting pens, Northern Exposure, eye doctors, mulberry trees, squirrels, grandchildren updates, back strap looms, donated yarn, posh French names for English food, when Norman French ruled, and peasant Anglo Saxon names for the same food, tiaras, diamonds, cufflinks, and book groups. Among other subjects.
I cooked a spag sauce to use Saturday, with the Misfits
hot Italian sausage, plant based, diced tomato and tomato paste. There's wheat rotini to go with it. Simple stuff.
About the chickpea fritters, I found they heat up just fine for a second meal, and a bit of dipping sauce is still good. My accompanying salads are getting plainer and plainer, just spinach and mixed greens with cranberries or today loganberries chucked on. I'm finding they taste better with less dressing on them. Maybe it's an urgent need for spring-tonic greens that's happening.
And I did a couple of images on my ancient iPod, inherited from Handsome Son years ago and mainly useful for playing freecell. Emailed them to my phone, screenshot them and imported them here.
I love the iPad images and that sweater. The knitting group sounds like a great book, history, politics, style, AND social group.
ReplyDeleteIt's an iPod, ancient lower tech gizmo, very limited, so fun to try. Tiny screen. The group is a terrific mix, interesting people who do stuff. Very intersectional, which probably accounts for the varied viewpoints.
DeleteIt's early, but spaghetti is appealing to me this morning. Given the state of my system, however, I think I'll gag some oatmeal down. Actually, it is not terrible, but it ain't great either. Have a good weekend with your knitting and your cooking.
ReplyDeleteI can do oatmeal for breakfast if I've started the cooking the previous evening. Otherwise it's too much work!

ReplyDeleteThat rib-work is lovely! I also very much like your little abstracts - what a fun thing to have a play with and that middle one in neon yellow is as good as some of the works I have been viewing online from my local gallery! YAM xx
Thank you for the nice words! I was an exhibiting artist in many media for fifty years, an early adopter, too, in the eighties, of computer-assisted art. These images were like a stroll down memory lane to make! Nice to feel I haven't lost my touch.
DeleteGlad your weaving inspiration was well received...and what a wonderful little mix of patterns on the sweater/top! Such fun conversation!
ReplyDeleteThe sweater reads like a sampler of textures, while being very soft to the touch - wool and cashmere mix. The weaving interlude was fun.
DeleteInteresting conversation at your knitting group!
ReplyDeleteThis group is particularly mixed, so it's interesting.
DeleteYou had a full and interesting day. I wouldn't have a clue how to make images on a computer like that, they are really good. I'll be making either a sauce or chili today. I haven't made up my mind.
ReplyDeleteI had great computer assisted art adventures way back. Using two keyboards, two screens, one for commands the other for the resulting images. You had to know your stuff.
DeleteMany steps. The iPod is dead simple by comparison -- software loaded, menu screens, go! Still a lot of fun.
You never cease to amaze! I had an iPod but I don't recall it having any ability to create anything but a play-list. Then again, I did not nor ever will have your tech abilities, not to mention your artistic ones.
ReplyDeleteYes. That piece of knitting is beyond anything most people could ever imagine doing. Enjoy your sauce!
This is the iPod I inherited from my son after it aged out of being updated. But he'd loaded this little art function and freecell, and the email still operates, so it's useful. I keep info in the notes function, too.
DeleteSandy knits amazingly well, and she can explain, too, great combo.
I love that you have a group! I need a more regular art group. I think we do more and do better when we know we'll be sharing our work with others who appreciate and understand the process.
ReplyDeleteIn fact I come from the other end of that spectrum. I've always been so engrossed in endless ideas and art and exhibiting, that groups were an interruption.
DeleteI've done them because it's good to know your world, but I've always had to figure out what I can take that's portable, to meetings!
When I'm seriously weaving I take in a bit of knitting. When I was making monotypes, I'd draw in working meetings. That kind of thing. But I've known people who need a group to function.
There's a mark on my screen and I missed the comma at first reading it as plant-based tomatoes. What an amazing range of topics you discuss.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I hope the tomatoes aren't 3D printed, or something!
DeleteWonderful talent at your knitting group. Spagetti sauce sounds pretty good tome right now.
ReplyDeleteCathy
It's a very good, really simple sauce, too.
DeleteLove the top down textured knitting. Each of the texture patterns had a meaning in some places, and fishing villages would have identifiable patterns for their village (or so I have read).
ReplyDeleteIt's a lovely piece of knitting.
DeleteIt’s always amazing to see where conversations end up. You just never know.
ReplyDeleteThe knitting project is beautiful. I’m still knitting squares for the big blanket. Hopefully by the time I’ve got enough it will be cool enough to start sewing them together
Isn't she a great knitter? Such a touch. Knitting a blanket in squares is great in hot weather. When it cools you won't mind having it growing as you join pieces.
DeleteSpagetti sauce sound good right about now.
ReplyDeleteThe patterns on the knitting are beautiful.
This sauce was so simple, too.
DeleteSimple sauces for the win. Youngest son cooked me a pasta sauce with shallots and garlic sauteed in butter, tomato paste, vodka and cream. Oh my giddy aunt it was the best I have had in a long time.
ReplyDeleteYou have struck gold with that group.
It took several years to get it established, many weeks just the library lady and me, until slowly it began to catch on. This is often how groups like this work. It's lovely now.
DeleteVery creative with the IPod images, Boud. Love them!
ReplyDeleteThe different oval shapes look fun. I've never tried anything like that on the computer. Your knitting group does sound l like an interesting bunch. The sweater is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing what you can do with software, and it helps if you have art experience. The group is endlessly interesting!
DeleteYour knitting group sounds fascinating with all the topics you end up covering. S's garment (vest?) looks intricate to knit. She's obviously very talented.
ReplyDeleteIt's a sweater in progress. Yes, she's excellent. And she knows how it works, too, more than just following her pattern
