Sixty first. Stew. Fuel pump. Eligible. Saturday miscellany

Yesterday was my 61st wedding anniversary. Well, Handsome Partner checked out nearly 13 years ago, but who's counting..

And today Chief Garofalo's forecast came to pass

I'm all prepared, because yesterday I made that vegetable stew

when cooked, you dip out a cup, blend it and add it back in, to give a great texture.

Served with the plantbased hot sausage and fresh parsley, definitely snow day food.

And snow day reading, a Pride and Prejudice remake in New York and Cincinnati, doctors taking the place of wealthy landowners as the eligible catches.

Honda wrote to me to let me know my car is on the recall list,  one of those likely to have had a faulty fuel pump installed, and it could poop out in traffic, fail to start, etc. I need to get them to replace it at no charge. Good to know.

However they're very sorry but they won't have the parts available till the end of the year, but they'll be sure and write again then. Oh. I suppose if it collapses I'll have to get a non Honda part. Since it's been running fine for six years, I don't think I'll get too anxious about it. Honda isn't what it was. Or their supply chain isn't anyway.

Happy day, everyone, but sad one for Ukraine. They've had to withdraw from a heavily fought town they'd held. Can we bombard the Speaker with demands to put up the aid vote?

Meanwhile

  1. I have done that partial blending with a cauliflower soup.
I wonder if I will get a Honda recall. I just did one on the rear chassis earlier this year.

    1. You can check your VIN on their website. I didn't bother, just waited to hear.

  2. I do like Chief Garofalo's weather advisories. I bet he enjoys creating them as much as everyone else enjoys reading them. Well, you know. Except for the part about the really bad weather. That's a lot of snow!
Your stew looks very fit to eat. Body and soul-sustaining.
A wedding anniversary is a wedding anniversary, even if one of the partners is gone, and worth celebrating. That's my opinion.

    1. It cheers up the weather when he's writing funny stuff. And yes, it's a significant day even solo.

  3. I heard about Ukraine this morning. We have GOT to get funds to them soon. Your stew looks just fabulous. And we ALWAYS remember special days like that. Hugs today.

    1. Thank you! The European group have stepped up their $$ but the US is the big one. And the House is ready to pass it.

  4. we're having another dip into winter but no snow, just rain and wind. two faced Speaker Johnson recesses the House instead of voting on aid to Ukraine and then makes a big speech that Putin must be stopped.

  5. We're coming up to the 2nd anniversary of the war in Ukraine and things are looking dire, alas.

  6. I have never seen a winter warning quite like yours. soup sounds good. I got a recall on my toyota something about the battery holder could cause a fire but they don't have the part either just stand by yikes

    1. I expect their lawyers wanted the warning. Just to cover them :(

  7. I agree, an anniversary matters even if one is gone. 61 years, a long time. I often blend white beans to thicken soup. Your stew looks good.

    1. I usually blend the whole pot of soup, that being my preference. But this is a stew, where you leave the veggies alone in bite size pieces. So a bit of thickening is good.

  8. I hadn't heard about a Honda recall. And they're usually such reliable cars!

    1. It's been all over the news here recently. My last Honda had a recall to replace the ignition switch which kept misreading and not letting the key out!

  9. I can’t believe what the US government has done to add to the hardships (or at minimum no reduce them) in Ukraine.

    1. It's one man, Speaker Johnson. He refused to bring a winning vote to the House. Now he's under pressure from his own party about it.

  10. Good of Honda to tell you that your car might stop in the middle of nowhere!

  11. Seriously. Why worry people unnecessarily. If you had an issue then they could either fix it or tell you about it being faulty and giving you the choice to fix it with a different after market part.
I guess they had to do it, to cover their arses from being sued
Your stew sounds like it’s exactly what is needed on a cold snow day

    1. I think the letter is pure lawyerese. They don't offer to reimburse for a non Honda part, unless you already did it before the recall and you can apply for a refund.
The stew is really good. All those vegs, very virtuous.

  13. That's a lot of snow! As for what the US House of Reps is doing, it's not good. For shame.

  14. We don't get snow here but any stew on a cold winter's day is good food.

  15. That looks like a very good soup for such a winter day. I'm getting out my immersion blender tomorrow to make some potato leek soup. Haven't made that in over a year - maybe two!

  16. Lovely stew and lots of memories for you on the anniversary. We should vote them out and get on with helping. Glad you are fed and warm.

  17. Good snow weather food. One has to go looking for Ukraine news over here these days - it has fallen well below front page, top of the news. I do still go looking for it but it does break my heart again and all over again every time I do.

  18. Once again I laughed at your weather report. He must be such a fun guy.
There's a recall coming on our Rav4 too and we received the same sort of notice. I guess they'll get to it when they can get their hands on the parts. We're still waiting to get the hail damage from last August fixed.

    1. Thank you! I think the parts supply chain is still faltering all over, not just Honda.
