Sunday crochet and community building

Sunday afternoon  I went to more or less assist with the beginner's crochet class, learned as much as I taught, and had a very good afternoon doing it..

New friends. I arrived early, so I took a look in the gallery downstairs

Really energetic art, so much movement.

Before all this, I fortified the inner woman with poached cod in a sort of puttanesca sauce,  diced tomatoes, olives, capers and anchovy paste.

Served with plain baked yellow potatoes.

This meal took about twenty minutes tops from putting on the water to serving.  Two more similar meals to come.

Late afternoon I was in an on-line discussion about race and white privilege. Very illuminating.

Happy day everyone, whatever your day consists of. Enjoy the bits you can, don't let doomsayers pull you down! You matter. We matter.

November 18 marks the 107th anniversary of my parents wedding. 1917.

  1. Such an elegant little meal. I could do without the anchovy paste. I have a Sicilian friend who loves it so much, she would squeeze it from the tube right into her mouth.

    1. I just used about half an inch from the tube, a touch. I like anchovies better but couldn't get them at the time.

  2. That art is brilliant. It’s amazing how many ways there is for creative people to express themselves.

    1. I do like cod, the way it flakes. And this is the first time I've made this sauce, but I'll repeat it.

    1. It's pretty exciting. That outside wall is what you see as soon as you enter the building from either door.

  6. Seeing the horse exhibit reminded me of a girl I went to public school with who drew horses on absolutely everything. She was always doodling horses. I wonder if she ever became a full-time artist or if her career took her in another direction.

    1. I used to know a horse mad girl like that! When she wasn't riding them, she was drawing them.

  7. I could see that artist becoming quite successful in commercial art if she was interested. I just looked at her "Meet the Artist" blurb online.
I know I've said this before but I have never once poached fish!

    1. Hiran is a man, and I think already pretty established in his art. I saw him hanging the show, middle-aged guy.
Poached fish is so good, though! Best if it's firm like cod, I think.

    2. Darn it! I figured I was using the wrong pronoun. Story of my life.

  10. I eat fish several nights a week, though lately cook has been on a cajun kick and I find I don't care for spicy fish.

    1. It was good. Funny how the cheap good food of childhood has got expensive enough to be a special event.
