Trees and saris

Today the mystery plant is twice as tall as the last pic you saw,

Has started unfurling five part compound leaves.

So it may be ash, hickory or black walnut, unless you have a better idea. In any case it will probably be about fifty feet tall when it's done.  Most likely a squirrel donation. All local trees.

And remember the doctor's appointment postponed from September 2 to late December in account of Ida? One hitch is the follow up mammogram to the scare I had in the spring. It's not over yet.

Anyway how to get it done on time.. so I called the doctor's office. No chance of an appointment before January, better stick with December after all. But star nurse Christine said, nah, this is easy, when she got back about fifteen minutes later, a landspeed record, I already faxed over a script, just call them and set it up. Which I did, and they did, for October, bang on schedule. Middle management gets it done.

Breathing happily, I promptly had a good idea. While the sari is waiting its turn to be made into clothes, why not let it hang, to air out and lose the packing creases. In a doorway.

I replaced the tired handweave which will get a turn in the dryer to dedust it.

New portiere. And you see how much fabric this is. I knotted it up at the back so the front would just brush the floor.  You can see the drape. Perfect for a skirt, among other things.

I'm going to be that old lady who always wears green silk..so much fabric. Or that woman who cuts up portieres to make dresses, like that woman and the curtains in the movie.

Here's the pair, wedding sari left, new sari right. Approved by antique dolls in their shared rocker.

Once again my stuff is multitasking.

  3. Do me a favor for that little tree/plant. With your fingernail snip a tiny piece off a leaf. Does it smell citrusy? Could it have rooted from a lemon or lime or other fruit seed? Seems like you would have noticed a nut in your potting soil.
So glad you got your appointment sooner rather than later.
And those saris are truly beautiful. What a wonderful way to purchase silk!

    1. I tested a leaf. I suspect it's black walnut. Which might account for the sudden collapse of the maranta in the next pot. Nothing grows near black walnuts. I think I'll replant it with its friends.
I have pots outside a lot, waiting for occupants. Squirrels bury stuff in them and you don't know, since rain packs it down. This is how I get hitchhikers.

Yes I like the saris and I like being able to see them while they're waiting.

  6. I'm going with black walnut.

Some people just know how to get things done, and care enough to do so. Christine is a star!

The sari portieres are a fabulous interim. Beautiful fabric on show.

  7. Goodness, that mystery plant sure did grow fast! Both saris are gorgeous fabric. It would make a beautiful skirt with that drape. A matching silk shawl would be nice with it. You could even make a luxurious silk dressing gown for the summer!

  10. Wow - I didn't grasp the concept of just how much fabric is in a sari until I see it hanging in your doorway. There should be several garments lurking in that.

    1. Exactly my feeling! I think it's six yards.

    2. In fact I can reserve enough for a door hanging and still have enough to work with.
