Perspective reminders everywhere

A leaf fell off the fiddle leaf fig, beautiful even as it dries.

And further away

Have you ever seen this art form? I blogged about it quite a while ago.

Current reading is this account of the friendship of Mary McLeod Bethune  and Eleanor Roosevelt, and I'm learning about Southern Democrats and their repression of the black vote and  support of Jim Crow laws.

It's a good insight in an election year, with the parties now so different. Bethune started out a staunch Republican, but things changed for her after Hoover and Roosevelt.

And here's yesterday's simple salmon and steamed  spinach

there's more salmon for a couple of meals.

And it's March, kite days

Meanwhile, though I don't usually recount dreams, and don't set much store by analyzing them, I did have a totally entertaining one I was sorry to wake up from.

It was a group of men, tap dancing. On ice. On skates. In the middle of a  gallery of their paintings. What skills!  What versatility!  Best dream fun I've had in years.

Happy day,  everyone, especially those of us dealing with the pesky time change which is only an hour but throws many of us into a tizz for days.

    1. It's a lovely art niche. The books tend to get snapped up fast by collectors.

    1. Now I wonder if tapdancing on ice is a thing.

  3. I would love to see a galaxy. Those book paintings are very vivid. You certainly don't see those very often.

    1. The books are quickly bought up when they appear on sale, especially in used book places.

  6. Time change is always a groan affair, which will hit me about Wednesday. Glad to have today with little scheduled. Great dream sequence there! Loved the night image with stars comet and galaxy!

    1. I suppose they originally put the change overnight between Sat and Sun on the assumption most people had free Sundays. Not counting the huge sectors in retail, hospitality, medical care, transportation, etc!

  7. I am one of the people who would prefer staying on standard time. I never really adjust to DST. I also have not seen nor hear of book edge painting. It's really lovely. I wouldn't think ice tap dancing would be a real thing, but then who knows?

    1. You never know what talented kid will come along as the GOAT icetap champion. Maybe an Olympic event.
The book edge painting is pretty niche. Even people who've seen it don't always realize it's an art specialty, rather than a quirk.

  8. Great post but the thing that stood out is the fish. I am craving a good fish dinner.

    1. Most people don't. I remember drawing on book edges as a kid, related to flip drawings, but pictures. I didn't have the necessary clamps,so it was a bit ragged. Fun though.

  10. The right-wingers are constantly harping about how Democrats are the REAL racists, drawing on that Southern Democrat history. Of course the party is much different now, and all those Yellow Dog Southern Democrats are now Republicans, but the Repubs would never admit it.

Love the book-edge painting, but I'd be afraid to read it!

  11. Remember when Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act,he said there go the Southern democrats for a generation?

  13. Time changes never seemed to bother me, I just got on with what ever I had to do, but the dog was totally thrown and we adjusted her meal times 15mins at each meal time.

    1. That's funny. I sympathize. For a couple of days I don't know when I'm hungry! And I doze off at odd times. It's like jet lag, but only one hour, you wouldn't think it would work that way.

  14. I love the book art. So much detail in such a small space.
The time changes never bothered me. Although getting kids to bed was a little difficult. My daughter would say it’s not dark yet. The sun is up. But it was usually going down with a beautiful sunset. So I’d tell her. He’s putting his pjs on. That worked lol
    Your dream sounds very entertaining.

  15. That book edge painting is spectacular. Never heard of it before.

Two other friends just recently raved about The First Ladies, so it's high on my list.

Your dream sounds like a very fun one. Sorry to hear that you often have nightmares.

I learned an interesting Daylight Savings Time switch thing last night. My alarm was set for 2:30 a.m. to let our beloved old Obi out for a potty break. The alarm didn't go off, because there is no 2:30 a.m. on the night of the change - it flips directly from 2 a.m. to 3 a.m. Fortunately my bladder alarm went off before Obi's did...

PS - and Maggie Rudy's kite mishap!!!

    1. I've never witnessed the actual time change, so this came as a surprise to me. I wonder now about people working a night shift, how the forward and back time changes work for them

  17. I know I've seen books with edge painting but I can't recall where. I shall start keeping my eye out. That's a strange saying, isn't it?

  18. Your book sounds like a good one. I'm loving daylight time. I had the first good sleep since last November.

  19. Can't imagine painting on a book edge but it looks like fun. I'm in the hater of time changes camp - it seems to wreak havoc for days afterwards.
