Misfits and Thanksgiving

No outdoor picture of the Misfits box because it arrived very late last night, in the dark.

So here are the kitchen views

All present and correct, with cranberries for Thanksgiving, honeynut squash likewise, tomatoes for immediate lasagna with the noodles you see there, potatoes for a leek and potato soup, leeks in the freezer. Blueberries for breakfasts with pita bread, now the veggie pancakes are nearly done, but I'll make them again. Olives because it's been a long time and they didn't have capers.

Honeynut squash is a new one on me, more tender than butternut, probably very good beaten with butter, ginger and nutmeg.

All's well on the food planning front. And I found that the apple crumble filling I made which has supplied two cakes, is also a great pita bread filling for breakfast. Or middle of the night snack, one I enjoyed yesterday   when I woke at three am starving hungry! The filling has yet to supply a crumble though.

Meanwhile, speaking of Thanksgiving, I need to finish and box this Central Park puzzle

which I'm enjoying partly because there are all kinds of interesting piece shapes. It's a Springbok puzzle.

I need the table for whatever day we end up celebrating Thanksgiving, son's retail job usually requiring work that day.

Happy day everyone, enjoy what you do whether or not it's the officially "right" time.

    1. Well, it'll be eaten anyway! And handsome son will bring cheese and crackers for starters, and pie for dessert, with some sort of soda or ginger ale to go with dinner. Then we'll lie about like pythons.

  3. Honeynut squash is a new one on me too. You're certainly well stocked with potatoes!

    1. Both apples and potatoes are very small, so it's less than it looks.

  4. I’ve never heard of a honey nut squash. I will watch for it though!

    1. They're much smaller than butternut, but cooked a lot faster. I think they're related to butternut.

  5. You've come right along with the puzzle. At this rate you should be done soon. We have Thanksgiving with just the two of us, but we are invited to the son's on the Saturday after for Mark's birthday. I have a Misfits order coming tomorrow. I like that they have changed how you can now order. Much better.

    1. I now order when I really need to, no longer on a schedule. I like it.

    1. I just do it for a few minutes at a time, between other activities. That's long enough for me!

    1. Not in food retail. The only guaranteed holiday is Christmas day. He will be paid time and a half, holiday rate. He routinely works holidays and Sundays.

  9. Your Thanksgiving supplies look very promising! I'm checking in from North Platte, Nebraska, on our way to Milwaukee (Road Trip With Dogs) to visit niece and family. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, and it looks like we'll be spending it somewhere on the drive home. I'm trying to be OK with it - but it'll be the first time in 69 years to not celebrate on The Day. You and HS are a good example that The Day is not The Point.

Chris from (temporarily) North Platte (!)
PS If anyone else is ever traveling through North Platte - I highly recommend the Studio6 motel. Very pet-friendly and very nice budget accommodations. :-)

    1. Maybe this is the year you start to break away from the calendar! It's definitely possible to celebrate on a different day. We did that for all the holidays for the twelve years of the pet care business, just as festive.

  13. Thank you. You too, though I'm guessing yours will be on the actual day.

  14. Don't know who all will be at Thanksgiving yet. The grandboy and Audra and baby won't be coming from Arkansas, the twin grandgirls are on the outs with their parents and don't really want to come from their respective cities (3 and 5 hours away) so I guess just daughter, son-in-law, youngest grandgirl, us and my sister. I'll have to find a butternut squash, the store didn't have any yesterday, for a really good casserole.

  15. You and I are well versed in working around the schedules our sons have to keep...you because yours works in the retail food area and mine because he's a chef and has to cook for everybody else who are too lazy/unable to cook for themselves. He hasn't had a major holiday off in over twenty years so we're quite used to (covid notwithstanding) slotting our 'Christmas' in sometime in January.

    1. Handsome son and I between us have been moving holidays for the 12years of NY pet care biz and the six years of his retail life. You get used to celebrating when you can.
