Sunday morning, cool, with dragonflies

This morning is so great for walking to the pond

I don't have to carry water to the flowers, always a plus, because there's rain in the forecast.

So I moseyed down to the pond noticing new fungi and dragonflies. We have many species and here are two from this morning

This one's harder to see because he's so transparent, perched near the top of a daylily stem, about halfway up the picture.

And the early signs of seasonal change, leaves coming down and the sighting of goldenrod

I made it to the pond and here's the wind blowing the beech leaves about. Ripples in the water where frogs are moving.

Happy day everyone, great sleeping weather with windows open. Perfect.

And here's a little bouquet with today's additions

  1. Still brutal here. If I even take a quick stroll in the garden to see what's happening, I come in sweating. I am growing weary of this but there's nothing to be done.

    1. I'm really pleased with the flowers this year, A variety of wild and cultivated from seed.

  4. Cooler here today too - cool enough that my plan of sitting out for the afternoon with my book were set aside in favour of being warm inside.

  5. Sounds and looks like bliss. Less extreme here today but it’s midnight and finally down to 90.

    1. Does Cordoba cool by September? You must be longing for better walking weather.

    2. It can still be very hot in September. But there should be breaks, as opposed to August when 98 is a break.

  6. The goldenrod is already blooming here and it’s a proper magnet for the insects I love so much. Great time of the year.

    1. Yes, it was mobbed by a variety of insects. This is such a full rich time, so much is flowering and fruiting and I love it too.

  7. This morning when I went out in shorts and tee, I went back in for another top. But it warmed up, and I didn’t have to use it.

  10. It was like an oven here. So humid. I opened a window and felt like a hot air vent was blowing on me! It is supposed to be better tomorrow. I hope so!

    1. That's how it was here a couple of days ago, such a relief when it gets cool.

  11. We usually see many damselflies and dragonflies but they're been scarce this year, even though we have a large pond. I fear it's yet another sign of decline.

    1. We're still seeing them quite a bit. We've also had massive rains as well as heat, and I wonder if there's a connection. We also have mosquitoes despite the cold spring. They're indomitable.

  12. I don't think I've seen a single dragonfly this summer.

    1. That's a bit alarming. Does that mean mosquitoes are flourishing? We count on our dragonflies and demoiselles to keep down the mozzie population.

    2. It is alarming, because our mosquito population has EXPLODED from all the rain we've gotten. On the other hand, perhaps there are gazillions of dragonflies around and I'm just not out in nature enough to see them. I do live downtown in the Urban Jungle.

  13. Your cool day looks nice. And so do your pretty flowers! I've seen dragonflies here at the lake -- some rather large. And of course, the damselflies I had in my post one or two back.

    1. They do seem to flourish around water. I expect it provides great insect food for them.

  14. We have also cooled some. Very welcome. I could see the dragon fly.

    1. I'm glad on both counts. I wondered if anyone could see the dragonfly. Even in person it was difficult to spot, even when moving.

  15. I have a day today with no rain, finally. It's weird that so much of the world is hoping for rain and I am celebrating the opposite.

  16. It is a relief when it finally cools.

    1. This year has been very good for the flowers. The black eyed susans about three times the spread from previous years.
