Sunday morning and the sprinkler is running

Sung to Summertime.

The animals approve the sprinkler I organized. I just step out while the kettle's on, early morning, start it, and instantly rabbits and other people who like a bit of running water to drink, show up and wait at a safe distance.

Very glad it's in place right now, heat index up to 110f today, not a time to be wrangling garden hoses.

It's a good sound.

  2. What a cute little bunny. So far away, but still so cute. :)

    1. As soon as I go in, he's right there. This is a different one from the matron who sometimes shows up and sits on the deck near me while I read. She's not at all worried around me.

  3. I've been putting sprinkler out every morning, moving it every half hour or hour. my husband saw a little bird playing in the water. I have three bird baths that I have to replenish every other day it evaporates so quickly.

    1. The butterflies all over the butterfly bush next door also appreciate a drink. It needs to be shallow. I love to see the birds at the suet, then clean their beaks on the fence, before they take a drink, then leave. A full service refreshment stop.

    2. Have you ever tried putting marbles in a shallow dish then adding water, for butterflies to drink while resting on the marbles? I put one in the garden last year but never saw a butterfly in it. Thought it was a nice idea, though!

    3. Around here the water table is so high that puddles are easily come by, and I've seen butterflies drinking at them. Really any water I put out is to entertain myself watching the birds drink. They have plenty of sources in the neighborhood, even in droughts.

  4. Everyone needs a drink. There is a place up the street from us where rain water doesn’t seep into the ground. All the neighbourhood birds visit there regularly. I’ve never seen a rabbit there though.

  5. I watered some of my vegetables in the nearly-dark last night, could only take it for about 20 minutes and sweat was dripping off my face every time I leaned to pick up the watering can. Today seems about the same, possibly getting terrible earlier. Thank goodness Piper lets me share her A/C.

  6. The sound of running water is always so soothing (provided, of course, said running water is running where it's supposed to and not from a burst pipe!).
