Chili, courtesy of good neighbor

The friend who helped lug bookcases about is also a great cook.

Texted me today did I like chili? he'd made a batch.

Showed up later with


Helping of chili and slice of fresh cornbread.  I'm blessed.

We have a food exchange going on, he samples my jams, pestos, breads.

I haven't had cornbread since I used to make it for my birds. They were mad for it. Half for them, half for me.

It was a human recipe, didn't have birdseed or anything in it, I used to explain to friends I offered it to. It's just one of the foods birds will fight you for. That and egg yolk.

  1. A food exchange with a friend - what a lovely idea! I love chili, and have a favorite recipe. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm looking forward to it cooling down again so I can make it again. It was in the 60's yesterday, 50's today and tomorrow, and then I think it will be winter again by the weekend. :) Perfect chili weather!

  2. I don't make it, but I'm planning to try it. My son's interested in trying my recipe, too. So I promised to invite him over when I make it. He also does a bit of food exchange with me, largely his baking. Maybe he'll bring cookies.

  3. Congratulations! That looks like good chili.
    I make mind with black beans due to incompatibility with kidney beans.
    Corn bread with diced onions and bacon bits and catfish is a favorite meal.

  8. I really have to do something about it. And make cornbread while I'm at it. I've got turkey sausage in the freezer, and I need to see the bean situation. And the cornmeal..aside from that I'm ready!

  9. It's great to have friends who share. We're usually the ones doing the sharing but it never comes back our way. Resident Chef made chili the other night and has shared with a neighbour already and there's another container heading to another friend later in the week.

  10. I think sometimes people are intimidated by good cooks, and feel they can't exchange because they're not so skilled. Or maybe they just don't cook. Like my friend who uses her kitchen to store books. She eats out.
