Windy walking and car bids

This morning was a two hat day, wrist warmers and gloves, extra socks. It's not the temperature so much as the wind, blowing hard. It made clouds scud across the sun and I got pictures like this, taken seconds apart

Now shade, now sun.

The pond is looking wintry,  most of the leaves gone, you can see how small it really is.

It's a lovely scene year round.

Then the morning was taken up with car business, calls needing more info including the VIN, crikey where's that written, and once I'd given all the items, they upped the offer. Evidently my car has a posher trim than at first appeared. I also got a text with an improved offer from the dealership.

I think used cars are in short supply so I may do well out of this. The process is that someone comes to the house Friday morning, inspects it, takes a test drive, checks the paperwork, makes an offer. If I accept I get payment right away. Then the car stays with me about a week while they set up transportation for it.

At that point they remove the plates, which I have to return to the DMV, and take the car. Then I'll call the auto insurer to report it's done and claim the prorated refund on my insurance.  And figure out who else needs to know.

Then I will stop thinking about cars! I've learned quite a bit, and that's fiiiine. I'm doooone. I was amused when they asked me why I was selling the car, and I explained I'm very old and giving up driving. Little pause, then awwww, I understand! Unspoken: poor old soul.

So the poor old soul made pumpkin spice, it being the season. And used a glass AsEver jar to store it.

When this week's groceries arrive, there will be pumpkin puree for making oat and pumpkin flatbread, and pumpkin spice is needed, too. I know, the excitement's almost too much.

Happy day everyone, get a walk, even a short one, even if it's cold and windy, or at least get a while outside just breathing. Even in the Southern hemisphere, I hear, it's not very summery yet.

  1. Congratulations on your gusty two-hat walk, and I'm impressed that the car offer has gone up!

  2. Pumpkin spice mix looks interesting..you could use that with apples...or in carrot cake...

  3. The VIN should be on your car registration paperwork. It will be on the car too, somewhere. That may be the process for selling your car, but do take care to not be scammed. It happens with car sales. A test drive by a potential buyer who will be on their own? Nah, I wouldn't do that.

    1. It's a national company rep doing this. If he doesn't reappear I have several ways to track him down! The vin is in numerous places, but I didn't have the file out when they called. Anyway we'll see.

    2. And his vehicle will be here while he's test driving.

  4. Yes, with cars in short supply --> tariffs, used cars have better values as new ones are really quite pricey.
I looked into selling a skid steer off the farm and I see that it is worth 'more' than what we purchased it for 10 years ago. So hopefully that works out for me.

  5. It looks cold and bright. The wind chill is significant, so it's good to hear that you were well prepared.
So your car is a prized commodity? That's good to know.

  6. Good use of that As Ever jar! I finally made up my own jar of "chai spice" mix a few years ago. It was too much trouble to put a few grains of each item into my oatmeal, for example, when I want some chai flavoring. I felt so clever that I thought it up after a long while of using 2 bits of black pepper, a skosh of cardamom, a touch of cinnamon etc. - ha! The jar of the mix is a great solution. Lovely walk you had there!

    1. I like spice mixes, and I've made several kinds. It's useful when you suddenly need a bit of half a dozen flavors.

  7. It was windy here too, but not cold. Good to hear you’re so positive about car sale…I am much more dependent upon mine, and not looking forward to when I give up driving. Yes, getting even a short walk is a good idea!

    1. Do you have ride services locally? I think you don't have younger neighbors or friends, but could be wrong about that.

  8. This is good news. An infusion of case will be welcome after the large expenditures your recently had. I believe you made a wise decision. Of course you did! Pumpkin and oat flat bread. This has piqued my interest.

    1. I'm hopeful that the car sale goes well. The flatbread is in YouTube. Of course.

  9. I had to chuckle over your response as to why you were selling it. I don't imagine they are used to such honesty.
I didn't realize how tiny the pond is. It reminds me of what we call a dugout here, a small, manmade pond to water cattle

    1. It's a retention pond on the golf course. But nature took over and they wisely leave it alone.

  10. It’s been miserably windy and cold here too. In fact, I thought that I was reading a local blog at first.

  11. I understand what you mean but somehow “very old” is not a phrase I would think of when describing you. Great news about the car. Ours was the reverse. High book value, but when they saw it the price went down. Sitting out by the sea for 9 years did a job on it. Great comparison shots of the clouds.

    1. Well, we'll see when they inspect it in person. Meanwhile I'm hopeful.

  12. I can vouch for the fact that newer previously owned cars with low mileage which have been maintained well are getting good prices. During Covid no one wanted to sell their cars and go out and buy new ones. That's when Glen got out of the business. So you've made the right choice at the right time.

    1. That's encouraging, thank you. I mean about my car not about Glen's exit.

  13. I hope the sake of the car goes well and you do get the higher price.
The little pond still looks like a place lots of critters would love to live.
    Have a great day. :)

    1. Plenty of frogs hiding in there. And birds except when it's windy. Birds avoid wind.

  15. Two hats! Light bulb idea! I look like an ancient crone in my much loved stripy cap of many colours, but if I sit my blue brim but not warm hat on top (my face needs a brim) I can be both warm and stylish-ish.

  16. It's been gray and windy today but I'm hoping to get out for a walk this afternoon.
Best of luck with the car sale. You sure do not sound "very old" as you are so active and creative! I love pumpkin!

  17. There is a lot to giving up a car. I remember when my mother did the same.

    1. A lot depends on where you live. Here there's no public transportation to speak of so you have to figure out alternatives.

  18. Just spent some time catching up on previous posts, Boud, as I had fallen behind after returning from our travels abroad. I hope all goes well with the car sale. Even though I still own a car, I do far more walking to places since we live in what's considered a city center. So, if I ever decided to give up my car it would not be hard to still get around. Also, Nashua, NH, has a public bus system that's no cost to seniors, another plus.

  19. You're supposed to return old plates to the DMV?

I think I may have broken the law in the past because I can't ever remember doing that.

    1. Maybe it varies by state. It's a protection for the driver so that the car is clearly no longer their responsibility. And the plates are the property of the state.

  20. My hubby does all the car stuff. I do know where the vin number is Usually on the motor. In Australia it’s on the registration sticker making it easy to write down
Yes our weather has been a tad wet windy and cold. Today the sun is out and it’s actually lovely outside
We are expecting a few days of much warmer weather. Before it gets wet again

    1. The vin is on about ten documents. I was joking about being asked for it when I wasn't expecting to be. But I rummaged through the files while we talked and found it.

  21. I have never turned in my old plates. I paid for them, I'm keeping them. LOL It's always wet and windy here. Oh and cold. Thank you for your comment today.

  22. Prayers and well wishes on your new journey car free
You aren’t alone. I’ve had thoughts about selling my vehicle because repair costs are unreal. I appreciate people need a good wage, but repairs can ruin a person’s budget.

  23. Hah - there's nothing pour old soul about you!! I can 'hear' your relief about getting rid of the car and not having that hanging over your head.
