First prep was to text several friends to tell them I'm thankful to have them in my life.
That done, since for once Handsome Son is not working Thanksgiving Day, nor Friday, we're celebrating Thursday, the "right" day.
Here's the pretty simple food, my part of it -- he brings a lot of other food -- in the fridge, prepped to roast Wednesday evening, and on the counter to heat Thursday. Using canned veg is a recent thing to save my energy.
Done ahead, warm through Thursday, smelling very good
And the table is set up
Tea lights found in the freezer and set up on the hearth.
Meanwhile Wednesday was about tofu katsu, which was browner and crisper than it looks here
and reading
a great social history of domestic service and how Virginia Woolf conducted herself with the women who served her and provided her with the care and space which enabled her to write. I expect they'd have liked a room of their own, too.
Light portrays, in a well researched and compassionate look, all the lives affected by domestic service in the England of the nineteenth into twentieth century. This has been described as a history of women, either working in service or hiring into service.
Before I leave, just a word of thankfulness for you, blogistas. I publish daily, at midnight my time, so that I'll have something to get up for next morning -- your comments. And you lift me up and educate and entertain me each day, thank you.
And let's remember the people who really put the food on our American tables
You are well-prepped! Have a wonderful meal with HS, and enjoy resting up afterward.
ReplyDeleteThe Jesus meme is perfect. Yes indeed, thank those who really feed us.
Chris from Boise
I'm looking forward to hearing about yours, too. Sounds like a crowd -- big turkey!
DeleteAn uplifting post - good food, preparation to share good company, a good book, and some reminders to us all (even those of us who don't dedicate a specific day to giving thanks) to be thankful and understand the value of gratitude.
ReplyDeleteYes, any day will work! It doesn't need to be a proclamation.
DeleteWishing you a wonderful day with Handsome Son and, sí, gracias Jesús! Tea lights from the freezer?
ReplyDeleteIf you freeze them, they burn slower. Or something. Yes, gracias, Jesus!
DeleteLeave it to you to teach me that trick about tea lights!
DeleteHave a wonderful Thanksgiving with your Handsome Son!
ReplyDeleteThank you! It will be good.
DeleteHappy TG with HS.
ReplyDeleteTY!
DeleteHappy Thanksgiving Boud and I'm thankful that I started reading your blog. Have a lovely meal with your Handsome son.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I'm glad you're here, too! Happy tday
DeleteLovely to do prep work before the day, and you’re the first person I’ve heard that cooked the bird the day before as well! We’ve got all day to cook, with plans for a 4 pm dinner. It’s darn cold outside all day where I’m visiting in Columbus OH. A good time to sit by the fireplace! Thankful for your daily conversations here.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you're safely there, indoors by a fire! Happy tday.
DeleteTurkey stuffed and in the oven, iced tea pitchers washed out, chocolate pecan pie defrosting on a counter, baking dish of dressing in the refrigerator ready to bake for vegetarians, et. al, whipping cream ready to whip, cranberry relish, ready to serve, biscuit dough will come out of the refrigerator soon in order to warm up. I feel so in control at this moment. As I know from experience, this will all fall to pieces within two hours.
ReplyDeleteHave a great meal with Handsome Son! Love from Lloyd to you.
And from NJ to you! It will be fiiiine.
DeleteNo Thanksgiving prep for me here in UK... Just prepping for Advent ?grt the calendars ready, make a cake) and Christmas. Haven't decided the menu. Gone are the days when I cooked all morning (with help) and cleared all afternoon (with help!)
ReplyDeleteIt will be just the two of us eating what we like,at a time of our choosing.
Doubt the freezer trick would work with rechargeable tealights though.
Nice to be two people enjoying their day! Agreed, don't freeze the electronic kind..
DeleteLooks like a wonderful day! Happy Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteI am grateful for meeting you this year, too. :)
Thank you! Mutual I'm sure.
DeleteI just read "A Room of One's Own" for the first time. Couldn't agree more with her. I love the meme about who is really responsible for our food. Happy Thanksgiving, Boud.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving! Yes, the first time you read that, it's powerful. And gratitude where it's due, to the farmworkers whose skills bring us food.
DeleteThank you for reminding me of joy. I mean that.
ReplyDeleteThat's a lovely comment, Debby, thank you.
DeleteHow lovely to be able to celebrate on the actual day. Our #1 son (the one who recently moved and got a new job at a nice restaurant) is over the moon about being off for Christmas this year - something that has only happened a couple of times since he started working as a chef.
