Today the cleaners came so I went to the library to see the current art exhibit by Frank Rivera, and approve some other features
Frank Rivera, who taught at the local college where I got a lot of my art education, is interested in small works influenced by graphics and the small religious paintings seen on Italian altars.
Some of the pieces date back to the 90s. It's a mini retrospective. The colors are very subtle so a bit hard to see here
And in the plant exchange, here's the nice form of the tradescantia name
there are interesting ideas everywhere
And in the bathroom a new notice saying that for sudden need, period products are available free at various desks, including the children's department. This is a considerate move, as any woman or girl can attest.
This afternoon Gary visited to see what's up and was proud of my successful stand at the dealership, but realized quickly it was costly for me.
And he might want to buy my car, however I haven't agreed to that, because anything around him tends to develop many complications and hitches and delays!
Anyway he supports my decision to sell though he had earlier urged me not to be hasty. He was hugely amused when I pointed out that the seller can honestly claim it was driven only locally, by an old lady!
So next week I'll be on it. I can get a refund of most of my insurance payment, which had doubled since the last bill. This is all good.
And good news from the food pantry: people have come through and they're able to fill all the needs this week. They're happy.
Happy day everyone, attend to your local needs, drive your own bargain!

My suggestion, do not sell a car to a friend or family. We did around four decades ago and it ruined a quite long friendship.
ReplyDeleteWandering Dude is known to me as something else, but now I wonder why it had its earlier name. It used to give one of our dogs a bad allergic reaction.
Even asking a woman at a desk, I would imagine some very young women might feel uncomfortable, but I suppose it is better than nothing. Worse if it was a bloke at the desk. Better would be vending machines in the toilet area. Yes, there shouldn't be any discomfort about the matter but it seems the world is not there yet. (I note, I myself have not used any really descriptive words in the aforesaid sentence. I am just as guilty)
Yes, there shouldn't be such discomfort. And when you're caught you may not have the funds at all, let alone the change for a machine. So giving the supplies is good. I think younger people aren't as inhibited about the subject of period needs.
DeleteI hear you on not doing business with friends! I'm not inclined to, would rather it be a business transaction with a business. Cleaner, less complicated, and no paperwork confusion if this is their daily business.
So much creative art pieces.
ReplyDeleteYou forgot the
Only drove it Sundays to church lol
It would be a lie to say it's been anywhere near a church! And used car sellers wouldn't lie..
DeleteInteresting works by Frank Rivera, although it’s not a form that sings to me. I love the wandering dude. A much better name!
ReplyDeleteFrank's a nice guy, but I'm not in tune with his art much, just wanted to give him his due here.
DeleteI forgot to ask: Isn’t the wandering dude a Tradescantia and not a Sansevieria? I know sansevieria as snake plant or mother-in-law’s tongue.
ReplyDeleteI've made that mistake so many times and been kindly corrected but can't seem to get it right. I went back and edited. Thank you!
DeleteI prefer snake plant to the other name, similar reasons to preferring the other one to the ethnic one.
DeleteIt was always snake plant for me!
Delete"Wandering dude" -- I haven't seen this "updated" name before, and I understand the reason for it, but I still got a chuckle out of the new moniker!
ReplyDeleteI like it!
DeleteThat wandering plant looks pretty neat. Like others, I am not sure about selling to a friend, but I am also not sure if one might alienate a friend by refusing to sell to him.
ReplyDeleteI'm not refusing. I just am not agreeing. A real friend gets it, so I'm not worried about that.
DeleteThanks so much for giving me an optional name for an old favorite plant. Good luck on selling car, and I echo the idea of selling to strangers. Business and friendships can become messy when mixed...though I admit to having successfully done so.
ReplyDeleteIt's messy when the friend is easily distracted, forgetful, loses things constantly. I'd rather be businesslike. I've done business with a relative who is organized, reliable and on the ball, though.
DeleteThe rest of the world can have all the wandering dude it wants by whatever name they call it. It is, of course, invasive here and if a leaf gets a chance, it'll spread before you know it's rooting.
ReplyDeleteI'm a little grumpy today for no discernible reason.
Like morning glory, a treasured blue annual here, A terrible nuisance in other climates.
DeleteExactly.
DeleteI like the subtle colors of this display. It took me a few minutes to understand the wandering dude as opposed to the other name. I did finally get it.
ReplyDeleteSo many common plant names are sexist, racist, anti semitic. I will use the Latin name, when I can get it right, sooner than those.
DeleteYou are an inspiration on how to take care of oneself! I'm impressed with all you do!
ReplyDeleteThank you. Now there's only me, it's not hard! Much harder were the caregiving years when I was active 7am to 11 pm every day!
DeleteWe love our wandering dude, but it really does wander, sometimes to excess!
ReplyDeleteI was amused to find it ordered at the library because that's exactly what I had in mind, too!
DeleteOffered not ordered.
DeleteI see the point of not selling to friends or family.....but I did buy my car from my brother....he knew I needed it, he got what he wanted for it ( which was half what the garage had said to him that it was worth) and all parties happy
ReplyDeleteYes, it can work, if the people are business like about it. My situation is that it's better to use a service, less likely to be held up, confused, etc
DeleteGood luck with whatever you decide car wise. Hope all goes well. Sounds like you enjoyed the visit and seeing the art. Saddens me to see that things are still so bad in Ukraine. Don't know how people are continuing day by day.
ReplyDeleteSandy's Space
Ukraine continues to be a war zone. From the first day of the invasion I've been putting up a reminder in my blog, to let them know we remember them.
DeleteI'm not fond of the art but to each his/her own:)
ReplyDeleteI hope the car sale goes well, smooth with no hiccups. I'm thankful that we sold our two properties this past year, so much less stress in our lives.
Exactly, when the car goes away, that's a source of stress and anxiety gone with it.
DeleteWandering dude. I luv it!
ReplyDeleteMe too. It's much better.
DeleteI've often been told never to sell/buy a vehicle to/from family or friends. That said, if I was closer I'd probably want to buy your car.
ReplyDeleteIt's going to be a good buy for someone, if not you! It can be sticky to get involved in a business transaction with someone you're in another relationship with, different expectations. I'd rather keep them separate.
DeleteWhen one of my friends gave up driving, she took her car to the dealership and they bought it for a good price. Might be something you could check into?
ReplyDeleteI've already got a price from them as well as a couple of others. Hoping to push them higher with the other bids! I'd be happy to sell to them because they've got the history -- I bought it used from them.
DeleteThat's a nice exhibit. And also nice to know you have some potential with the car!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to seeing how it works out with the car. That will be a new chapter for me.
