Saturday was about noise and drilling and hoses dragged through the house and smells and debris. And about sorting the mass of items that came out of the storage unit.
I moved the portable ramp into the house along with the other medical equipment. And I Freecycled this portable folding seat
Things took an upward leap after the house had been decontaminated and John the Exterminator left.
I'd admired these maple lucets online. The maker's wife passed on my compliments to him. I've been looking at handmade lucets for ages.
Next her husband offered to make me one if I paid the shipping! I instantly accepted. That definitely improved my day.
Again I did a search on the etymology of the word and again found it's of obscure origin. Meaning someone lost the bit of parchment it was written on by the only monk who knew, and since then it's been one big coverup.
This is wool day. This library request arrived
Happy day everyone. You never know what might come into your life and improve your day.
Very kind offer on the lucet. Did you get to specify the shape? looking forward to seeing your braids from it. (I use a roast carving fork for a lucet but the curve on the end of the prongs of the real thing would be an advantage.)
ReplyDeleteSince it's a kind gift, whatever he sends will be fine. I'll certainly show any product, this is me, always showing and telling.
DeleteWhat a lot of productivity around your way. When I was in my 30s, I had major problems with bursitis in my hips. I bought myself what was called a flipstick for when we were out birdwatching so I could ease the pain whenever needed. It was stolen in one of our moves. I loved that thing.
ReplyDeleteThose seats have various names, and they're so useful. This one has served me well.
DeleteWe bought a little portable stool for taking photos, but I don’t use it. I just bend and take a quick shot and hope for the best.
ReplyDeleteThis seat can also work as a cane, curved handle that works as a seat back. It's very useful.
DeleteThat is a handy seat. I will look for one.
ReplyDeleteI don't think the Vermont country store stocks them now, it's been a while, but they should be available somewhere.
DeleteWell, now I know what a lucet is!
ReplyDeleteThere may be a goddess related to the lucet, who knows.
DeleteSo glad you had assistance with the shed contents...out and organized and back after the exterminator! Lucets are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI had help with part of the putting back. I did the rest solo. Thankful I could!
DeleteLike a lot of fiber art tools, lucets are beautiful.
We have learned a great deal from our new tenant, just by talking with her. That's the thing, I think. My parents were bigoted. Very racist. I was raised that way. I never questioned it until I got out into the big wide world. I realized it was quite a different world out there. I discovered that as my friends and acquaintances expanded. I also realized that my parents had never had any experience with multiculturalism. We live in a very homogenous area. When they spouted their views (which they felt quite strongly about), I realized that they'd never spoken to any black or brown people. It was pure ignorance. It's the same with the LGQTB issues of today. The most outraged people are those speaking from pure ignorance.
ReplyDeleteI think you're right. Ignorance brings fear. And being brave and opening up can be so valuable. Even risking saying the wrong thing -- I've been given a lot of grace by people knowing I was trying to learn.
DeleteHopefully what John The Exterminator did is going to be what's needed and just think of the sparkling newly organized shed you will also end up with.
ReplyDeleteNow I must consult with Mr. Google about how a lucet works because I've never seen one in operation. It looks like an interesting tool.
Stay tuned about the storage story! The lucet is easy to work, check YouTube.
DeleteThat's a nice complex where you live. I'm glad that you have good neighbors who pitch in to help you.
ReplyDeleteI am too. One thing is that they know I love their kids, unlike some neighbors who get rattled by noise and flying footballs! That goes a long way. Also they get cake..
DeleteThe lucets are beautiful in their own right, a joy to touch and feel, no doubt.
ReplyDeleteI have other handmade tools, as you say, lovely to handle just by being handmade, my little hand loom, spindles, rigid heddles, bobbins.
DeleteThere are kind people in the world. Neighbors pitching in and a stranger offering you a gift. I need to look lucet. I'v e never heard of it until now.
ReplyDeleteIt's good to remember there's a lot of good action. The bad actors tend to get the attention.
DeleteWhat beautiful neighbors you have. I know you know.
ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to my kids, they are quite familiar with using the correct pronouns and do, of course. I try always to do my best with that. And there is no shame in asking. I heard someone ask a friend of theirs one day, "Taylor. What pronouns are you using these days?"
"She/they," she replied. Just polite and respectful. In the series that I love so much, "Reservation Dogs," there is a character who, upon meeting someone or introducing himself always says, "Hello, my name is Cheese. My pronouns are he/him." It's so funny and so sweet and so endearing.
I think your kids have been exposed in loving ways to differences. People who haven't have much to learn.
DeleteCatching up. Glad you've been - I was going to say exterminated but that's not right. And you've reminded me that I wanted to look up a word.
ReplyDeleteNow I wonder what word...I know a couple of people are looking up lucet.
DeleteHow wonderful to have such nice neighbours 😀
ReplyDeleteYes, I recommend a racially mixed neighborhood every time. We have a wonderful tapestry of people.
DeleteI had never heard of a lucet. Nice to learn something new.
ReplyDeleteGlad your bug guy was there and gone.
I'd seen those seat canes before but not in person. Nice you found a home for it.
Any help with the storage area is good. :)
That seat is very useful, lightweight, too. It doesn't fit in my life now so I was glad to pass it on. I've received a lot of useful stuff, too.
DeleteIt is so nice to have good neighbors that will help you out.
ReplyDeleteI like my neighbors. Interestingly we've had turnover while I've lived here, but the new neighbors are always as nice as the old. The ones who helped me yesterday are fairly new.
DeleteI've never heard of a lucet. How interesting!
ReplyDeleteMost people haven't! It's niche.
DeleteNice to learn something--I'd never before heard of a lucet!
ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of ancient words for the tools in the fiber arts, mostly unknown to the general public.
DeleteAdd me to the "new word of the day" club. What a lovely offer from the lucet-maker.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the pronoun tip. I still feel very awkward trying to figure out appropriate pronouns, but you're right - making the attempt is the way to start.
Chris from Boise (she/her) :-)
PS Just requested Vanishing Fleece from the library. Thanks for the book tip!
This is the comment I thought I'd erased. It reappeared, not sure how that happened. But I'm glad. I'm liking the fleece book a lot. And the addition to your vocabulary. About pronouns, as Mary moon says, okay to ask.
DeleteWell ignore my comment on the next blog. I really should read them in order lol
ReplyDeleteAlthough, maybe a few in different sizes would be handy
Now that's temptation talking, different sizes...
