Monday the house cleaners were scheduled so I booked a Lyft ride to the library, just to get the hang of it. Nice driver Mamadou showed up bang on time, and we had a quiet ride. He was listening to a radio program on public radio, all good!
This will work. I managed to navigate the app, update my payment and from now on I won't book ahead, just when I need the ride. Like going home today. I can try Uber too, and compare prices. So I Lyfted home again, prompt pickup. Next rides I'll try Uber to compare prices.
The exhibit in the gallery is Liz Aubrey, an artist I probably ought to have heard of but oh well. Evidently well known around Trenton. I included the qr code for more info. Please let me know if it works for you. I tested it using my phone to scan tablet image and it worked for me.
I was a little underwhelmed but did make a few pictures for you. You may love her and follow whatever she has online.
The two upper are small acrylic works, and the last two are tiny, mixed media on coffee filters. I don't know anyone who uses coffee filters for their purpose. I've dyed and woven and spun and knitted them. And here's a painter using them as a canvas.
Her acrylics are very American in feeling, and the coffee filter paintings are oddly European in affect.
Meanwhile winter painting is on the library windows, and I've found that the artist is Madison Mark.
This is the first exhibit of the new concept, of using the library building as a canvas. Here's a shot from inside at night
Happy day everyone, I hope there's a lift in your day, too.
I got another lift when I got home and found my cleaning family had hung gingerbread stars here and there, in spaces where I'd had art but never removed the hangers.
So they've started my decorating
And freecycle continues to supply comic relief

I like her paintings. They're very moody. I've never used a Lyft or Uber. I need to check it out
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I posted them, then. I think it's wise to try a ride service just to set up an account and get the hang of it. Then when you really need to use it, you'll be familiar with the system.
DeleteGingerbread stars! How sweet!
ReplyDeleteKnowing them,it's home baked, too.
DeleteI think I love your cleaners. I like her work, the first one best. You are onto a new stage of adventure. I'm pleased it worked well.
ReplyDeleteThat first one is the strongest in the show, I think. And yes, I was thinking of this as a new stage, rather than a loss.
DeleteI love your stars! The 'Looking through the branches' paintings are neat, and the window reflection is terrific. I found sparkly dark blue iridescent ribbon for my weaving project. I recognized it as soon as I saw it!
ReplyDeleteThat's exciting about the ribbon. I've been wondering how it was going. It's going!
DeleteI haven't had the need to try Uber or Lyft yet and don't even know where to begin. Thanks for checking it out for me! ;)
ReplyDeleteYou might want to look at their websites and get the how to information, just for reference.
DeleteGlad your first rides went well. I'll be curious as to who is cheaper--Lyft or Uber.
ReplyDeleteShe does very simple paintings. Must be odd to see them on coffee filters! :)
As of now, uber is cheaper. But I'd had a good Lyft ride from the car dealership, so I tried them first. The prices go up every time you turn around, so it's probably good to compare routinely.
DeleteThe coffee filter paintings just look as if they're on a cream ground. It's not obvious.
Thanks for sharing. I've never used Uber or Lyft by myself. I've used both with other people who've used the app and it always seems very efficient. I've just not had a need to try it on my own. I should probably review how to do it with someone, so in case I need to, I'll know what to do. Love the library window, very pretty. Glad you enjoyed the art.
ReplyDelete<a href="https://4ccccs.blogspot.com/2025/12/a-new-project-reading-about-past-to.html>Sandy's Space</a>
It's a good idea to try a ride service, at least check out the procedure so it's not new when you need to use it.
DeleteWhat kind cleaners you have.
ReplyDeleteI like seeing painted windows, but wonder who has the task of cleaning them when the time comes to remove the art work.
Usually windows are painted with window cleaning liquid. It dries white and it's just a routine window washing when you're ready to remove it.
DeleteCollapsible babies. I had no idea that was a thing, although now that I think of it, I have seen many collapsible toddlers:)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the rides are working out for you. You are an inspiration. You see a problem and tackle it. It if doesn't work out, you try something else. I like the whole scientific method vibe you bring to dealing with problems.
Toddlers collapse when you try to get snow boots on them, yes.
DeleteThank you for the nice words. Yes, I try to tackle problems however I can. Not always successfully. But I don't do much handwringing.
Despite what I said about getting grandchildren to drive me around, I can foresee a time when Glen and I will have to move to town if we really become unable to drive so that we can take advantage of things like Uber and Lyft.
ReplyDeleteSigh.
What sweet, sweet cleaners you have! That small gesture would have meant so very much to me.
It's definitely something to consider. Likewise the lake house, unless it's always family going together. The cleaning family are good people.
DeleteThose paintings remind of a French artist who I can't remember. I knew several Mamadous when my daughter lived in Senegal. It's a common name there.
ReplyDeleteHe seemed to be African, yes. There are quite a few Africans in the community.
DeleteThe art I find a bit derivative, which accounts for my lukewarm response.
What a truly sweet thing to come home to! The QR code worked beautifully. You’re a genius! However, when I arrive at the site, the message says the event is concluded. Thanks for sharing your photos.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand that. It's only just opened! There hasn't been a meet the artist yet!
DeleteI wonder if it’s not letting me see it from Spain. I’ll try again tomorrow.
DeleteMaybe it's a Cloudflare issue.
DeleteThe QR code worked for me here in Arizona. That library seems to be a very busy place. I agree with you about Ms. Aubrey's work. Underwhelming. And I had no idea there were "collapsible babies" but with AI I guess anything is possible. 😉
ReplyDeleteI think there are collapsible parents though. Yes, it's a busy library, a lot going on.
DeleteHer art is unusual -- so angular, and seemingly textured. I like the second piece, the townscape with the river (?) in front of it. New Brunswick, maybe?!
ReplyDeleteI hadn't thought of New Brunswick. You think that's the mighty Raritan?
DeleteThat was a sweet thing for the cleaners to do.
ReplyDeleteI believe here Uber is on the more expensive side, compared to other rideshare companies, so i'll be interested to hear your own experience.
They're nice pey, been working with me for many years. And when I get to try Uber I'll report back.
DeletePeople, ffs. So tired of having my words changed after I hit send
DeleteI think you've got the transportation figured out.
ReplyDeleteUp to now. Early days!
ReplyDeleteI do like her art. From what you have on the post
ReplyDeleteWhen I have a little time more I’ll check the QR code
Isn’t it lovely of the cleaners to spruce up your home.
So thoughtful
I loved the stars. I've grouped them now, still on the wall.
DeleteI used Lyft today as well! Congratulations on your first independent ride with them. I used the “prefer women and nonbinary drivers” selection for the first time, and that was successful for 1 of my 2 rides. I like the first of the paintings you showed, but I’m not so sure about the ones that follow.
ReplyDeleteI didn't get a woman driver on either ride, but did get nice men, so okay.
DeletePosted before I finished. I think there's a reason she chose the first one as her signature piece, and I think it was the strongest of the show. I looked further into her bio, she's local and well connected socially as well as artistically. That has helped, though she does have some talent, don't want to be too churlish about her!
