Workout, Misfits and Wodehouse

Thursday morning was about watering the flower seedlings then free weights and standing exercises, a whole bank of both, 5lb each hand, 6lb each leg, then stretches, finishing with a walk.

When I first got back into leg weights, I thought at first I hadn't put equal amounts into each sleeve. My left leg was so much weaker than the right, after surgery, that I know thought I'd put too much weight on it. Now they feel pretty much equal, so I must have gained strength.

After all that exertion, a rest with a few  minutes with a heating pad, and lunch of tuna mashed potatoes,  I was hardly able to stay awake for Misfits.

I managed it, and this is where I realize I lost track of time and forgot to order eggs and yogurt before the ordering window closed. Also cheese.

But I will survive, with cod, maybe battered, and maybe with tomatoes and olives in some sort of southern French invention. The tomatoes will also work with the available cheese and eggs in a bake.

The apricots will make a sauce or a preserve thing, and the strawberries need no help. This week it's Envy apples, there being no Gala available. The fruit is so beautiful it's amazing that it's  sold at a discount for size, too big or small, or surplus.

Coffee has become a vital early morning need, a simple Melitta pour over.

So that's Thursday, followed by a rest.

A bit hot in the afternoon on the deck, near 90. But happy day everyone, whatever your weather.

I stayed out a while, then came in and dozed until teatime, chocolate pudding, strawberries and a pot of tea. I needed light relief from all that's going on and went for

That did the trick.

In other protest news, there's a Not My King protest at the Trooping the Color event in London

It seems that people who have a king don't want him and people whose current situation arose from rebelling against a king also don't want one. Bad time for kings. Maybe a different career path is indicated.

  1. Free weights do show up a lot more than those on machines..but both have their place. It is good that you have improved and that encourages you to carry on.

A different career path sounds a good idea..When you see other countries where their royal families have jobs and interests like anyone else they seem far happier and more connected to the real world.
As for the one over there...

  2. Sounds like a lovely day for you.
I think the current king is not popular because he has made his mistress queen
If people read history he isn’t the first one
His don and daughter in law will be much more popular

  7. Doing your weights and exercises before you walk certainly warms your muscles up for the journey.

  8. Speaking of Not My King... I'm really enjoying the new podcast by The Republic called From Below the Balcony. I find the accent of Graham Smith difficult to understand, so it's helpful to me that Abby Tarttelin (whom I can understand easily) is co-host. It's fairly long (maybe 60 mins?) but only comes out every other week. I've learned a lot in the ~5 episodes that they've released so far! The one in early May with Kalechi Okafor has been my favorite. The videos are on YouTube, or you just listen to the audio. Here in the US, I've called my 3 representatives in Congress already this morning about recent events. Have a great day!

    1. That's a good recommendation. I listened to a couple and was impressed with the knowledge of the speakers being interviewed. I already knew Norman Baker's work from many years of trying to bring transparency to royal wealth.

  9. As always your Misfits box has yielded some great looking goodies. We almost bought a box of strawberries this week until I looked at the price (and the fact that they were from the US). At $7 for a pint I was more than happy to do without.

    1. That's pricey. A pint is about three quarters of a pound. My strawberries were $4 a pound, not bad.

  10. Britain is basically a republic in the guise of a monarchy, while the U.S. is fast becoming a monarchy in the guise of a republic.

The Brits may have won the Revolutionary War after all.

  15. I did get a bit of a nap after chores. No cooking today, 89 and has cooled from 90s and looks like rain. Had lots of lightening the last couple of days. Need the heating pad today. Good luck on the 14th.

  16. I wonder if those born to be kings ever had the opportunity to contemplate other career options? I mean, look what happened when the one who WASN'T decided to walk away. It makes me very glad to be a commoner in a faraway land!

  18. I heard online that there might be rain and thunderstorms in DC today. Interesting about London, other places in the world too as well as here all over. Good to see for sure. Good to know your legs are feeling stronger. Onward and upward! I enjoyed looking at your shopping and what you are going to do with it. I am picking up some ideas :) Have a great weekend.

    1. I'm glad the food postings are interesting. And if you get ideas, great. I pick up ideas from blogs, too, often tips about food prep. It's so good to feel fitter again.

  19. I am amazed at your ability to continue your workouts at home with no one overseeing you. That is a real test of determination which has truly paid off.

Kings. We don't want one in the US. No protesting on the streets for me today but I will be there in heart and mind.

    1. I've always preferred working out alone at home. I can see progress when I do it right. I think I'd do it on a desert island! Likewise make stuff. Like your mini dioramas, you'd do them for the joy anyway, I bet.
