Man at work.

Replacement deck in progress. Hoping my plantings will recover. Mike is an excellent contractor,  not a gardener. But Nature usually prevails.

I'll be out this afternoon with my knitting pals, so I won't be agonizing over the deck. Which will be lovely when it's done.

  1. I hope it turned out perfectly, Liz!
I've had enough moments of sudden dismay that I now Just Stay Home when work is being done. Not watching, not directing, just going about my routine and casting a glance now and then. Even my excellent carpenter and his brother spent probably a couple hundred dollars of my savings trying to dig a massive stone out of a huge hole before I saw what they were doing and asked - in a quiet tone I was pretty proud of - "why are you digging so far beyond the edge of the portico?"
    Slight misunderstanding, there was.

  2. He has now done the outside joists, the longest, most awkward in this small full space, and when I got home all was neat, plants back unharmed. A lot more to do yet, but I think the rest is more straightforward, since the supporting joists may be okay to keep. His work is beautiful.

I'm feeling very down, as always when the house is upside down, a lot of plumbing work yet to do, Wednesday, I can never live with the process, always wild to get it done.
