Yet another doctor appointment this morning, the annual skin check. Which yielded all good news, and she cut out a callus or two on my walker's foot, saying I can be less gentle with my foot rasp, only stop if it hurts.
She commiserated on my outliving nearly all family and all my agemate friends, saying, well, if you take care of yourself that happens. Cheery.
Since this morning was cleaning family day, I didn't go straight home but went to Dollar General for a treat or two, because I've earned it. Little box of wheat thins, bag of peppermint creams. Lunch.
I was going to sit in the car there, then several huge fire department trucks drove up and started fooling around with cylinders of spraying stuff, so I regrouped and went to the park.
Is this multi trunk tree the result of coppicing? Anyone who knows please say. There's an avenue of them, all similarly multi trunked.
After
a nice walking circuit, bit chilly for a bench, so I resumed the car, the wheat thins, the peppermint creams and a Mrs Pargeter I had on my Kindle.
I woke up a while later, after several dreams happened, I guess getting up and about early takes energy, and eventually came home and found the house clean.
Not only that, my nice family had refilled the spray bottles I usually set up for them. That saved me a step. And they'd retrieved a container that had fallen down behind the kitchen shelves, showing they definitely clean back there.
They keep me out of assisted living, seriously.
Thanks for all the variety of cabbage ideas. I'm still finishing containers of the Spanish stew and I can vouch for how well it holds up to freezing. I've been adding cabbage and water, and the flavor is really good.
Next to use the tofu in some interesting way.
And here's a nice reminder about keeping the joy in No Kings Day.
These reminders are good for every day, really, come to think of it.
Happy day everyone, try for joy! Sez Ted and Big Ursy
Love the rally reminders. They make excellent sense.
ReplyDeleteThey're worth noting, I think.
DeleteI wonder if that wasn't intentional coppicing, just that when young it had had damage to the lead growth
ReplyDeleteOne of my pictures shows it's part of an avenue of trees looking the same, which is what made me wonder about coppicing.
DeleteFor whatever reason the tree is so multi-limbed, it’s beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThere's a row of them, all lovely.
DeleteThe No Kings reminders are rules for living. I hope all the protests are peaceful. Doubtless POTUS will find some way of demeaning them.
ReplyDeleteYou can be sure that if any paid disrupters get active, that's what will be in the msm.
DeleteWhoever your ‘nice family’ may be they sound industrious and helpful. Glad dermatology went well - mine is next month. Treats at the dollar store sound delightful! I hope you find out about that tree, because most of my maples have the came feature here. I wondered about them too.
ReplyDeleteA couple of our blogistas are knowledgeable, so I'm hoping they come in to comment.
DeleteI approve of staying out of assisted living. I know that those in accommodations with which I am familiar live good lives, but even if I had the dosh, I wouldn’t want to be there with them.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't stand what I know of the politics of the places I know of. Friends who are happy there navigate the middle school mentality successfully. I don't think I could.
DeleteYes, if only it were the common everyday practice in life. Your cleaners are thorough.
ReplyDeleteThe practice starts with us. My cleaning crew are Czech, old style work ethic.
DeleteYou are blessed to have such good cleaning staff. It's not an easy job I know from having done it for a couple years.
ReplyDeleteThose rally reminders are a good basis for life in general.
Yes, they make a big difference in my life. And the rally ideas are great life instructions.
DeleteI had never heard of coppicing but now I know. Thank you! Now as to those trees- I would have no idea.
ReplyDeleteStaying out of assisted living is a main goal of mine. I realize there may be compromises which have to be made.
One of my plans, if I get to where I can't do stairs, is a stair glide. Expensive but still cheaper than assisted "living"
DeleteThose are great reminders for every day! I hope all goes well!
ReplyDeleteI do too. It's starting out cheerfully anyway.
DeleteTotally agree that the rally list is a good one for every day of the year!
ReplyDeleteFinding good cleaners isn't always easy. So glad you have some good ones!
Happy No Kings Day!! :)
I lucked out after talking with a couple who didn't have a nice approach. And my nice crew have been staying with it for many years. They're self employed so they get all the fee. This is better for them.
DeleteI like Wheat Thins too. I usually dip them in peanut butter or whipped cream cheese. Or hummus sometimes.
ReplyDeleteWhoa, recipes! I like cubes of sharp cheddar with them. So long since I bought any baked items.
DeleteWheat Thins a good treat. I haven't had them in years though.
ReplyDeleteNeither had I. So it's a nice change.
DeleteI'm glad you have a cleaning family helping you out. I wondered about that. There are lots of big cleaning jobs that are difficult to manage as we get older.
ReplyDeleteThose no kings reminders are excellent reminders for everyday life too.
I need them to keep floors and bathrooms clean particularly, just once a month keeps my house liveable.
DeleteThat sounds like a lovely day.
ReplyDeleteIt was.
DeleteOur protest was wonderful - good weather, good crowds, music, cars going by beeping for us. There were even some people in costumes - Abraham Lincoln, the Statue of Liberty, a couple of dinosaurs, 2 sharks and 1 large chicken! People smiling and waving - such a positive experience!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to hear it -- especially the costumes! I wore yellow, the color of the day.
DeleteGreat news on the skin check. You definitely earned the treats.
ReplyDeleteI think I’m going to have to hire someone to come clean fortnightly again.
Trying to keep on top of that and looking after the gardens is really too much for me now. It would be lovely to have the whole house cleaned in one day. I can only do a little a day so it seems like I never finish.
I agree that having a team clean everything in one morning is great. Then you don't feel it's endless. I'd do it if I were you.
DeletePeople sneak in and clean your house??? No one does that at my house...
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's pretty good. The house cleaning fairies.
DeleteA good skin check yahoo and a clean house life is good.
