No Kings online

If you're not up for marching in person for No Kings, you can be part of the movement online. Cut and paste, whatever your system permits, and sign up at this link.

Or find it via search engine. I've signed up. Note that the times are Mountain Time, so do the math for your region.

In the subject of showing up, I looked at the ballot tracker and confirmed that my vote for Governor was received.

Once again the dentist chatted about the way time flies, checked my new x-rays, emptied my wallet and gave me an appointment for this time next year.

I ran out of toothpaste a couple of weeks ago, switched to baking soda.  The hygienist had asked how come I had very little staining compared to last year. She said that definitely accounted for the improvement, and to keep doing it unless my teeth get sensitive.

I didn't know they kept records of staining, and the dentist did his own cleaning and polishing last year, so maybe he did it. Meticulous. Anyway I can save buying toothpaste now.

And I got a lovely offer of sock yarn from a blogista, thank you, P, complete with news of old online friends, so I'm looking forward to resuming socking soon. People coming through, again.

Meanwhile I'm finishing the current pair, just turned the heel on the second sock. I love the mechanics of short row heel turning, very satisfying to do.

Tuesday evening Gary came rushing over to show me a picture he'd taken a few minutes before of a beautiful yellow and white cat sitting on my step in front of the wooden cat ornament! As if Mr. Cat is asking if I'd rather have the real thing instead of a wooden one.

I wonder if he's trying to move in. Wouldn't be the first cat to try that. Gary's seen him several times recently at night. I wonder, too if he's being let out at night.

He looks well fed and clean, a pet, not a stray. Gary wants to feed him, but I warned him he'll end up with a time-share cat with two homes. We'll see.

I wouldn't mind a visiting cat as long as I didn't have the responsibility and expense. A grandcat. That would be nice.

Happy day everyone, do you have grandpets? I like the concept. Billie the Pup is like that. My grandpup.

  1. No grandpets here. The two spoiled brat cats are enough. Gary should definitely NOT feed that cat. You and his new tenant with suffer the consequences. I love the blue of that yarn.

    1. If he puts out food, I expect the squirrels will get it first.

  2. I hope there will be huge support - things have got to change before the USA becomes the Disunited SA..

    1. We've never been very united. Quite a few countries are having marches in support. Maybe you can join one.

  3. We have the grand pup, Daisy which will be visiting in three weeks for 11 days. We will rest up in preparation! You are so right about a stray!

    1. You'll need the rest. It's like having a toddler in the house only more so.

  4. Oh yes, a drop-in feline friend would be nice.

    1. As long as he doesn't look on it as a permanent home!

  5. I use both toothpaste AND baking soda. And my teeth always get a good report from the hygienist. Someone should start making baking soda in a minty fresh flavor.

    1. I used both then when I ran out of toothpaste I just continued with baking soda alone. Interesting idea, flavored baking soda. Actually, I could bake with it, too.

  6. I'll definitely look into the No Kings on line thing, since being out in the march is a bit beyond me. Yes to grandpups...when I go visit them. Thankfully they don't visit me.

  7. My sister is joining me for the No Kings protest near us. It's supposed to be raining but we agreed to go rain or shine. I think all of the Republican ranting about the protest is actually spreading the word as more and more people tell me they are going to join the protest! ;)

    1. I agree, and the more they lie, the more it encourages protest. Thank you for coming through yet again, in any weather.

  8. I have a grandpup. My grandma used baking soda and I have on and off. I will sign up. I have felt bad about not being able to participate, so this is good. Thanks.

  9. We calls ours Black Kitty, but I wish they would cut its claws.

  10. So funny! I never heard the term grandpet or grandcat...all the company and none of the work--well, or not much of it. I prefer them around all the time, though. Would miss them too much. (I get attached easily.)
That is such a pretty blue for the sock.

    1. I can't afford the tripping hazard -- stairs, nor the vet bills, nor the worry about them in their old age. So sadly I didn't replace marigold and Duncan when they went in their late teens. A visitor would be different.

  11. We're having a municipal election here in Edmonton on Monday. I have to get online and find out who's running for councillor and school trustee in my ward (I know who I will vote for as mayor.) I don't want my ignorance about the candidates to result in my inadvertently voting for some right-wing Maple MAGA.

    1. That's the way to go! Yes, you definitely have a right wing problem, and good for you as an educated voter, to know who's who.

  12. I have 4 grandpets: mack the afghan street cat who was rescued by Nowzad and adopted by my youngest. He has traveled to more countries than most people and now lives the life of a British gentleman cat with a carflap and a private garden. He has come a long way from Kabul. He was featured on an NPR piece on Nowzad, and I commissioned a painting of him berobed as an Emir with the mountains of Afghanistan outside his palace window.

Then there is izzy, an old dog that belongs to my son's family. They recently also adopted Tucker, a golden retriever, to replace beloved old Maggie who died a couple years ago. Tucker is quite a change up from sedate patient Maggie and he set that household on its ear. 6 months later, things are starting to settle down.
Lastly, there is Salem, my older daughter's cat. He is wary and cautious, adopted from the pound and still settling in.

We will be at the protest in Warren. I read that it promises to be the biggest protest ever in the history of our nation.

    1. Thank you for a marvelous account of your grandpets! They're celebrities. And for marching. Yes, it will be big.

  13. No grandpets here. Our skinny little beast keeps us busy with her constant wailing for food, in spite of the fact we've just fed her. But we have had grandpets in the past.

  14. Now I will be trying baking soda:) Can't hurt.
I have one grandpet, a lovely golden retriever. She's a lovely dog.

  15. Unfortunately my two grand dogs passed within weeks of eachother.
Both families were very upset. The two dogs were very old, fifteen human years.
But I have three grqnd cats. So that’s nice
I’ve been doing my little stance against the regime and not buying anything from the USA.
Except today. Ana wanted grapes. They only had grapes that said product of the USA. It was way too hard to explain politics to a four year old so decided that I’d buy them this once for her lol

  16. You've reminded me to phone the hygienist though I am even more scared of her than the dentist. Grandpets are great.

  17. I can't go to the rally today so thanks for the info!

  18. Alas no grand pets for me although the out west family does have a couple of budgie birds.
I often brush my teeth with baking soda and then follow that with sensitive toothpaste because I do have a small degree of sensitivity and don't want it to get worse.
Hopefully Gary doesn't end up feeding the cat and then leave you to deal with it once he moves.

    1. I trust Gary refrains from feeding, but I suspect anything he puts out would be swiped by squirrels!
