Misfits was a bit disorganized. The tracker gave me three different times of delivery and arrived at a different time from all of them, but still good, mid morning, handy for lunch.
The box arrived partly open, tape hadn't been applied evenly, and one item didn't arrive, but I doubt if it fell out, too big for that gap. I reported the open box and missing item but insisted it wasn't Rameer the driver's doing.
Canned goods for the food pantry, at least some of them, yogurt because it's a permanent staple here, sweet potatoes and yellow potatoes. Sweets for soup and sides, and cake, yellow for roasting. In fact I added in a couple of yellows to boil ready to roast for lunch with the last of the hake.
Can of ramen noodle soup mix, not ordered, probably a marketing move. Mushrooms for no end of use, in Yeung Man Cooking recipes or mushroom omelette, or added to soup. Wiped and sliced then frozen ready. They thaw fast. Cane sugar because it's good and it's fair trade. Cheddar cheese for toasted cheese, or tomato bake, or cheese omelette or something. Bread for the lazy baker.
I've started taking the Misfits food prep further. Beyond washing and wiping and slicing and freezing, I'm cooking items such as sweet potatoes because they'll freeze and be very handy for baking and soup and sides. Future Me will thank Now Me.
My panko didn't arrive, so no breading for now, no big deal. Plenty of options.
I called Gary to see if he's okay, and found he's had yet another battery of tests but feels good. I wanted to check if he'd like some of the chocolate cake I'm baking today. I didn't want to torment him with a favorite food if he wasn't up to enjoying it, current digestive issues. Apparently fine, so it's on.
And here's my share, afternoon tea with chocolate walnut cake
Wednesday evening as I was going upstairs, my knee started doing weird stuff. Instead of taking my weight smoothly, it jerked into place, and tried to give way on each step. Pretty unnerving. This is the non-Hippolyta side. Some pain in the thigh.
Then Thursday morning it started again. I decided to ice and do leg weights in case it was out of shape. It wasn't hurting, I wasn't working through pain, and I did half a dozen leg exercises with 10lbs, 10 reps each. Then I tried the stairs, with significant improvement.
I'd been walking, stretching, using resistance bands lately, not leg weights. So I need to get back into it. Anyway, I think it's more or less okay for now. End of organ recital.
And here's the website of the company busy tearing out the East Wing, horrendous in itself and especially without covering or asbestos precautions. It was built in the early 1900s, added to in the 1940s, very likely asbestos was used.
They'll be lucky if they ever get more work after this. They've deleted their LinkedIn page and this is their own website Thursday morning
Happy day everyone, show no mercy to evil doers. Reserve that for the good people, of whom there are billions!

Your food delivery is always interesting.
ReplyDeleteICE seems almost to be like a paramilitary organisation.
There would be hell here to pay if a political leader took action like that to a parliamentary building. I didn't even think about asbestos. There would be more hell to pay if it wasn't safely removed.
No almost about it. ICE is a modern Gestapo. I'm helping fight back.
DeleteSamba whistles are pretty piercing too, and you can play three notes on them! I used to teach Samba (drums, not dance) in primary school.
ReplyDeleteThese will be fine for the purpose for now.
DeleteDear goddess! What country is this we’re talking about?
ReplyDeleteThe one people who failed to vote because the better candidate was a black, shock, woman, horror, brought about.
DeleteFuture Me would be so grateful if Today Me did what you do.
ReplyDeleteGo whistle-blowers!
I learned that Future Me concept a long time ago -- Today Me thanks her for good health, mortgage free property, and more.
DeleteHow long will ICE be deployed on these ridiculous missions? Which mad scheme will be dreamt up next? It makes UK look quite sane.
ReplyDeleteICE is being backed off and run out more than you'd think from mainstream media.
Delete“Redefining Demolition” in more ways than one! It really is unbelievable what is going on!
ReplyDeleteIt's revenge for the No Kings success.
DeleteOh poor you with that new (I think) leg issue. ☹️
ReplyDeleteI noticed soon after the hip replacement that the other side was now struggling to keep up. I don't think it's a big deal, considering the age factor.
DeleteI read my Heather Cox Richardson newsletter this morning and she mentioned:
ReplyDelete"Julia Ainsley and Didi Martinez of NBC News reported today that Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s rush to get new recruits onto the street has meant they have pushed into their training program more than 200 people who have disqualifying criminal backgrounds, fail drug testing, or don’t meet the academic or physical requirements." So ICE is not taking the "best of the best" to do their work but the worst of the worst to do whatever they want. Scary!
I'm impressed at the many ways you find to help the situation. Thank you!
We all, all, need to do whatever we can to help. I have no patience with people wringing their hands, and doing damn all. What I do any white person can do. We have the shield of whiteness. It's up to us.
DeleteThat's a nice selection of veges especially for some soup making.
ReplyDeleteYes, already in action
DeleteIt's good that you're staying on top of leg/aging issues. Our bodies require upkeep to keep going and you're doing that. I like the idea of the whistles and I may have left a review on that companies website. Don't imagine it will last long:)
ReplyDeleteWhistles are terrific to block Nazis with microphones, fyi.
DeleteI know that, personally, I would have to be a death's door to refuse a piece of chocolate cake.
ReplyDeleteHe seems okay with it. He's on new meds so he won't be on the floor in agony after it. Anyway his choice!
DeleteThose sweet potatoes will come in very, very handy.
ReplyDeleteMy knee does a similar thing sometimes. You are SO good at doing preventative and restorative care for such things. I wish I was.
Maybe it's just a habit you could get into? I get such positive results when I do things right that it's motivating. The sweet potatoes are already in action.
DeleteSuch a nice big order and they forgot your panko. But sounds like you have lots of food plans without it.
ReplyDeleteGlad Gary is doing okay from what it sounds like. I'm sure he loved the chocolate cake.
The whistles sound like a great idea! That sound travels well, too!
Have a great weekend. :)
It's people in Chicago who started using whistles to warn of ICE in the neighborhood and to rout them, too. Quite effective.
DeleteIt's unfortunate that the box was partially opened, but it looks like you still got some wonderful food to keep you busy. Tea and chocolate walnut cake - - heaven! Take care of that knee. Jon
ReplyDeleteI don't think any harm was done but I reported anyway l, in case they're speeding up demands on workers and starting to cut corners. Yes, the cake is great.
DeleteIronic that the company tearing down the East Wing of the White House may end up coming down itself. Of course, Trump's really the one to blame. Can we hope for some further irony?
ReplyDeleteI certainly hope they go out of business. And their bankers.
DeleteA fine haul of groc. And bravo to you for whistling!
ReplyDeleteI think the whistles could be fun.
