Friday was mainly about food. I made an Ethiopian casserole -- cabbage, red onion, potatoes and spices. Pretty good, and I added salt after I'd tasted.
On a roll with baking, after Thursday's chocolate walnut cake, some of which was well received next door, Friday was a sweet potato and apple cake.
And the cook got the first slice, with full fat plain yogurt.
So I have supplies in the freezer ready for visitors as well as me.
Then a bit of kitchen diy, as I was washing yet another sink of dishes, baking makes a lot of dishes, I noticed my glove had sprung a leak. So here's what happened
I now have a set of fingercots and an assortment of rubber bands.
Then there was walking and plant care including potting up an indoor coleus, and reading Pargeter, Barnes and a serious nonfiction book
There was a nap among all this too. And I ordered a batch of clothes online, resale goods, mystery grab bag, several items for $25 total, still with price tags.
Arriving Monday, and I'll show you then. After I'd looked over the Landsend sale, and noted the prices, even on sale, I figured the grab bag approach could be worth a try, fun anyway. My whistles have shipped, too. Monday will be a funfest. And in this wild, mad spending spree I gave myself an early birthday/Christmas gift, an online advent calendar, which I'll activate near December 1. Big spender.
Happy day everyone, you in a mood to grab something?? Maybe don't tell us..

I AM in a mood to grab something!
ReplyDeleteI guess we should be glad you weren't specific.
DeleteYour work on the glove impresses me.
ReplyDeleteFastest diy ever!
DeleteI wish rubber gloves were sized for my hands...small is too tight, and medium is just gapping around. Can't wait to see your new treasures.
ReplyDeleteI got large because often these things are skimpy. But I should have got medium! Next time. I have big hands and usually a woman's large isn't big enough for me. This time I guessed wrong.
DeleteDuring the pandemic, I cooked recipes from various countries as a way to make life interesting and not focused on doom and gloom. Ethiopian sounds great. I may have to look for recipes from various countries again with the state of the world!
ReplyDeleteCheck out Swedish Ethiopian chef Samuelsson for great ideas and spice mixes. I can't get all his ingredients because no Ethiopian population here. But the YouTube recipe I used wasn't typically hot. Next time I would add berbere.
DeleteFinding the appropriate size in anything is difficult. There seems to be no standardisation, even within one brand, though some are more unreliable than others. It all makes for entertainment.
ReplyDeleteI think it's often a labeling mixup, especially where the Asian workers may not know the English alphabet.
DeleteGreat second use for rubber gloves!
ReplyDeleteI keep eyeing some of those adult advents but haven't indulged myself (yet). I did order one for the grandies though which has little individual jigsaw puzzles for each day. Thought they'd have fun putting them together.
I've been given them in the past, but the givers have also passed so I'm it!
DeleteVery clever way to use a damaged rubber glove! Have you always been so clever?!
ReplyDeleteI think I saw that idea somewhere. Can't claim I invented it!
DeleteFingercots! That's a new term for me. I Googled it, and Google informed me that people also ask, "Can finger cots be used as condoms?" Common sense tells me no.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what comes in your clothing bag!
GOP condoms, maybe..
DeleteI can't wait either. I'll probably be in for some alterations.
I always end up with a hole in my right glove, my dominant hand. I'm going to try your idea in future. Can't wait to see the clothes that come in the mystery bag:)
ReplyDeleteI hate to waste a glove. I always want to get more out of it.
DeleteIs that the Jacqie Lawson calendar? I'm just getting my list together to order those for some friends (and me too!) I love it!
ReplyDeleteYes, that's the one. It's lovely gift that goes on and on.
DeleteThat sweet potato and apple cake sounds deliciously intriguing!
ReplyDeleteI use the banana bread recipe from the old Sunset cookbook, with variations. I might add a bit more sugar next time, since banana is sweeter than sweet potato. But it's a good breakfast item, not too sweet.
DeleteSweet potato and apple cake sound delicious. Looks that way too.
ReplyDeleteIt's very good. Not very sweet, so some people might add more sugar. But I like it for breakfast.
DeleteI never cease to be amazed at your resourcefulness!
ReplyDeleteNortherner and immigrant. Double danger!
DeleteFirst your food looks so good. That is a brilliant idea with the kitchen glove.
ReplyDeleteIt's so pleasing to keep a glove out of the landfill for a while longer.
