Rain, then more rain, comfort food, lego as art

This week is mainly rain, changing a few outdoor plans, so instead of errands and walking this morning, it was cooking comfort food.

A casserole of cauliflower, carrots and spinach in cheese sauce with topping of panko and shredded mozzarella.

Lightly steamed the veg while I made the cheese sauce, and the oven heated to 385°f.

Then assembled it all, 20 minutes baking. Great rainy cool day lunch.

Enough for three more meals.   It's very good,  bubbling at the edges, ready to serve.

Tomorrow I'll make a plant-based spicy burger to go with it.  Note to self: take the pbsb meat out of the freezer.

There's reading, too, old favorites for rereading. Maybe some crochet. And who knows what I'll find on Freevee. Or on YouTube on the Forgotten TV series channel.

Some series I've found are best forgotten, and some are really good and deserve more light of day.

There have been a few attempts to replicate wildly successful series -- too many feeble country vet attempts, that kind of thing.

And attempts to make spinoffs for actors who were really stronger in a partnership than as principals.

A mildly successful one is Forever Green, mainly good because Pauline Collins and John Alderton, married in real life, play the parents of a daughter with asthma.

Her  health is a constant pressure,  they move to the country, then get into a different life.

The team was great in Wodehouse Playhouse, comedy timing impeccable. So I may continue with this series. I'm a longtime fan of Alderton, very understated and underrated actor.

Happy day, everyone, look for unexpected good things. You might find some.

And after I'd published, I did find some.

Check out Katherine Duclos art. She's wonderful.

  2. My favorites when I was a kid were Leave it to Beaver and Father Knows Best. Well, and The Wonderful World of Disney on Sunday nights. ;)

    1. We didn't have TV till I was a teen, not common then. One black and white channel which frequently broke down, and closed at certain times of day -- not enough programs! Then endless repeats.

  3. Speaking of the Forgotten channel, I rather like the Forgotten series.

  4. You cannot beat cauli and cheese on a rainy or cold day!

    1. There's a great partnership between cauliflower and cheese. I wonder who discovered it.

  5. Cheese just makes everything better, especially when it's melted.

    1. It was really good, very low key spice -- salt and pepper!

  7. Mmmm - that's comfort food at its best. And thank you for the link to the Lego artist. I've always loved Lego and keep eyeing some of the new kits they have now (especially the flowers).

  11. There’s nothing better to enjoy like a casserole and with leftovers it’s even better😋 Now you have me planning to make one over the weekend, Boud. We will also be having a lot of rain today, definitely an indoor day for blog and book reading.

    1. If you think of it as mosaic pieces you might make a small tabletop. Or trivet. Coasters. Jewelry.

  13. Your casserole sounds wonderful except for the spinach which I hate. I'd probably substitute green beans which I love.

    1. I don't like green beans! I wonder if it's one of those body chemistry things? I can't bear green beans.

  14. I would think most of the shows on the "Forgotten Series" channel are probably best forgotten -- which is why they're there in the first place! I don't know "Forever Green" or those actors.

    1. Some wonderful series lost funding and deserve to be seen. Quite a few were under budgeted and didn't work well. If you don't know Collins and Alderton, I think it's your loss. Check them out!

  15. That cauli casserole sounds lovely. There were lots of old series I enjoyed, how they would stand the test of time though?

  17. We're in our third rainy day in a row here, and the house feels cold and the world is (still) dripping and all in all an unsettled-feeling morning.
