Sunday has been quiet -- Gary's away celebrating a granddaughter's law school graduation -- and I had a few more firsts.
I was able to carry out the recycling to the dumpsters area at the end of the block, without cane or any assistance. Also scrub the container, high time, once back home.
And I'm now able to wear ordinary jeans, yay, the incision having healed and subsided to where I don't need soft knit pants. Back in civvies.
Cheerful picture, wild hair, it's windy out
I'm now ending some of the panoply of medications, so I'm leaving behind the early recovery period. In itself, that's a welcome step. Taking a lot of pills at every turn makes a person feel weak. This one, anyway.
I'm tapering off the PT, but will continue exercising as usual. It's time. I don't want to get dependent on Emil, wonderful as he is to work with. I'm starting week five of six.
And I'm taking several shorter walks a day rather than one big push. Here's this morning's trip, done without a cane, because I forgot to bring it.
These chairs were left outside someone's fence, with a ton of dumped stuff, and escaped the cleanup I requested, well, demanded, of the HOA. Now someone moved them to here, but I like them here. They're expressive. So I won't ask for them to be removed.
And home again, the sage is blooming and the rose planted by the birds put out a first bud
Reading and sleeping on the deck, me and the bees and the Carolina wrens.
I love her humor and her heroines, all quirky and out of the box. Here it's Louisa Datchett, Photographer of Dogs, checking out marriage prospects.
Tomorrow I think I'll make black bean salsa, using the beans that came labeled chickpeas and have been waiting ages in the freezer till I got an interesting cooking idea for them.
Happy day everyone, mine's been a ten.
Glad to hear all has gone well with the recovery! I love your flower discoveries.
ReplyDeleteIt's going smoothly, happy to say.
DeleteWhat a fun picture. So glad to read that you're doing well on the journey of healing.
ReplyDeleteConsidering how much walking it involved, journey is the right word. Thanks for the nice words.
Delete:-)
DeleteI am glad your recovery is going great, and I like the two chairs where they are. They are saying to me, come and sit awhile in nature. The Margery Sharp book looks intriguing.
ReplyDeleteNext to the fence they just looked abandoned. But among the trees, they make a kind of diorama. I love Sharp. She's light but not inconsequential.
DeleteI have had a good day too. Any day that I can preserve food from my garden and make a supper with vegetables we have grown is pretty good for me. My plant app says that is a Multiflora rose, aka Japanese rose, baby rose, rambler rose.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the rose id. They're all over the development. You can tell birds not people planted them because they're usually in awkward places, such as growing through sn established shrub. This one is at least in a good location.
DeleteGoogle lens agrees with Ms. Moon about the white flowering shrub - multiflora rose. Usually white-flowered with bright yellow centers; flowers appear in clusters. It's hard to tell size from your photo - does this ID seem likely?
ReplyDeleteThe chairs in their current location look very inviting.
Tapering off your meds and PT is an excellent step forward, as are 'real pants'. Love your windswept look! What a great day!
Chris from Boise
At first I thought Mary meant the red rose on the patio, and that's what I was answering. But yes, the white one is almost certainly the multi flora. Do you know what the red one is?
DeleteA ten! How wonderful. And pseudo chickpea salsa to look forward to.
ReplyDeleteBlack bean=pseudo chickpea. I could extend this.
DeleteForgetting a walking aid is a clear indication that all is returning to normal.
ReplyDeleteYes, it's like the time a few weeks ago I forgot the walker, same reason.
DeleteFantastic photo, Boud. It is how I imagine you! Looking at life with a huge smile!
ReplyDeleteThis is a pretty happy time.
DeleteYou're doing so well! Enjoy your walks!
ReplyDeleteWill do. May weather is just right for walking.
DeleteYou proceed from strength to strength.
ReplyDeleteIt's going well up to now.
DeleteI like that photo of you - you look so happy! Glad you are doing so well.
ReplyDeleteIt's the face of an old woman with a new life!
DeleteYou look very happy! Your determination and Emil's good work have made your recovery excellent.
ReplyDeleteTeam work makes the dream work! I can't jump yet and wave pom-poms, so take it as said.
DeleteYou are the poster child for hip replacement surgery, Liz! I am so happy for you! Those "rambling" roses were once touted as a great "living fence" addition to fields and gardens, but folks who bought into the concept often lived to regret it as the roses spread and thrived. They have a very invasive tendency and I've still got a residual and impenetrable bank of it here between the Pocket Paddock and the road, because it's the most harmless place to have it and just too much effort to try to shift it. But I do remove it from within the paddocks, and the veg garden.
ReplyDeleteI remember the ads for those roses -- even a bull can't get through it-- and they're a terrible nuisance in this climate where they flourish wherever they touch down.
DeleteThank you for the encouragement about Hippolyta!
I love seeing your very happy face! The book looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThis is a really happy time for me.
DeleteSo I get to see what you look like, and I'm not disappointed.
ReplyDeleteThat's nice to hear!
DeleteCongratulations on 10. Keep it up.
ReplyDeleteSpring is beautiful.
Pure joy.
Greetings
Yes, this spring especially.
Deletecongratulations on your progress it sounds great! And congratulations to your granddaughter that is a big accomplishment.
ReplyDeleteI love your selfie great smile.
Cathy
My friend's granddaughter, but they're family really. Thanks for the nice words.
DeleteMy day has been semi-productive but I'd say it's close to a 10.
ReplyDeleteThat's great to hear. It's a change from using the pain scale!
DeleteAny day that's a 10 has to be a great day. Those chairs certainly do look artistic in their placement and perhaps might serve as a roosting spot for people and birds to appreciate the surroundings.
ReplyDeleteThere's a cat living near there and I'm waiting to see her curled up on one of them
DeleteYou genuinely do look like it was a ten day!!
ReplyDeleteLooks all green and lush there.
Enjoy your book. :)
It's a lovely green time of year. There are so many trees in this region, too. One reason to mow is to avoid having a forest where you don't want one. I'm constantly removing baby trees from the ground over.
DeleteSo glad to read you are doing so well, Liz. You look fantastic in the photo! I like those chairs sitting in the shade. It's picturesque.
ReplyDeleteThanks for coming in, Becki! I hope you're ticking over nicely.
